When asked which song would be the best to show to anyone who hadn't heard of Yes, Chris chose Heart of the Sunrise, because it had so many different contrasting sections in mood, dynamics and predominance for each instrument or vocals. I do agree! So - what is, for you, the song that you would show to anyone listening to Yes for the very first time? Let me know in the comments!
Concordo completamente com Leandro! Perfeito! Já tirei muito esse baixo, e muitas vezes me perdia (hehehehe) e, claro, os teclados do Wakeman, tanto no Fragile e Close to the Edge. São musicas gostosas de tocar. Viajante! Parabéns!
Two years ago my wife had a dream I would die within the year. I have always had a Fender Jazz Bass and an Amp, yet have never played a day in my life. I decide that morning when my wife told me of her dream; I would spend a year to learn how to play that bass, one of my life dream to learn to play a guitar. This was the first video I saw and wanted to play. It has been 2 years and I am still alive. I still can't play a guitar, but I would like to thank you for giving me hope. :) Love this video. :) Doc
I'm sure you'll be able to play the bass, Doc. I think you can go gradually from simpler songs to work your technique. I'm very happy to know that you had my video as inspiration. All the best for your playing and thank you for sharing your story!
Holy Cow!! I was watching last night my dvd of YES Live at the Apollo. Naturally, I've had "Heart of the Sunrise" going thru my head and tonight was trying to play it on my Fender Jazz.( without a pick!). I was really impressed with Lee Pomeroy's playing of the tune on the dvd. So I come upstairs to my computer to find the bass tab and saw this video listed. Ok, I'll watch it. My jaw is STILL on the floor!! So inspiring to watch and listen. (I might even invest in some PICKS!) Thank you so much. I've been a HUGE YES fan for 46 years now. I'm sure Chris would be extremely proud of what you've done!
Hi Dallas - Glad to hear from you. Thank you very much for your kind words! Chris' picks were Jim Dunlop's Herco Flex 75, just in case you want them ;)
Heart of the Sunrise has not been one of my favorites, but it is now!! Chris's nuances of melody, counter and harmonizing passages are so much more apparent now! Thank you!
I am journeying to become the best bass player I can be. I have improved much in only a year. I have no formal training and only play to music I like. I have just tried to learn the sounds that go well with the music and learn the patterns of picking. You have been an inspiration to me since Chris Squire is my favorite bassist and the reason I decided to learn bass finally.
It's an approach I really support - playing our favourite songs. I started that way, even before I learned any theory or technique, and there was no internet. I hope you continue enjoying your bass playing and if you'll think of getting online lessons give me a try! Thanks Jeremy, I'm happy that you find my videos motivating!
One of the few clips I have seen where Chris Squire's nuances style as well as his unique tone were recreated. Well done. Makes me want to go out and buy a Rickenbacker Chris Squire model bass.
There is nothing more educational than faithfully executing a masterpiece. This video is especially valuable for bassists that don't have large hands like CS, as the demonstrator shows a lot of adaptation to make up for the lack of showy spidery technique that taller bassists can exhibit. Being tall, I never really thought about it, before I saw this video.
Thank you very much! Yes some passages require some greater strength and hand opening. I tried to watch how Chris handled those passages, especially using his thumb for chords. It takes practice and, as you said, adaptation. Once again thank you for your attentive comments. All the best.
Among the different, astonishing and beautiful bass lines that compound this entire song, when I saw the two basses appear at 05:44 to do that wonderful arpeggio, I felt like crying my eyes out. I think it's the most beautiful sound a bass guitar has created, perfect ring, perfect timing for the song, just genius. We will always love you Chris RIP :)
What a production! Nailed Chris Squire on multiple parts. Not an easy task, as well as the obvious dedication by the Rickenbacker itself. Agreed that Yes should contact him for gigs. What a band, and what a bass player. Chris Squire R.I.P. Stellar performance.
Miguel- You just make me so happy. Those Squire lines are for some reason very dear to me, growing up in the 70’s I remember wondering why other bassists didn’t just quit! Lol I was 10 when Roundabout came on the AM radio then, what the hell is that bass? At that age I hadn’t been exposed to Entwistles famous live tones yet. Chris always so upfront in the mix , and why not of course , but as a teenager his bass just struck me , but more with emotions somehow. Hard to explain, but now that I watch your videos it makes me quite emotional, you’re just the finest , I’ve never heard anyone nail it like you are. Yes I have a Ric 4001s, but you surely need a lot more than that or a certain preamp-superb talent. You certainly have that. Portugal must be so proud! Really enjoyed video of Chris singing your Ric certificate. Your the best. Chris and Geddy showed me a great new sound and vision of playing, melody with the most excellent skill. God Bless Just enjoy so much, words escape. Those lines are very precious to me. Jim Chicago
Hello Jim. Chris’ bass lines carry a lot of emotions to my ears as well. I’d say there’s a strong human factor, something of intuition that has always touched me. So I identify a lot of what you’ve written. Thank you very much for sharing your feelings about Chris’ playing. I’ll keep doing my best to bring more of Chris’ playing.
Why is this a work of love? Because we all love Chris Squire, and Miguel makes Chris's bass playing clearer to us, and makes it come alive again, more than ever! Kudos to you, Miguel! (I feel like wanting to play bass because of your playing! Now that's a compliment.)

In this video it looks to be in immaculate condition, as though it was just taken out of it's case for the first time. The sound is full range and very pleasing. Is it strung with Rotosound Swing 66, or stock Rickenbacker strings?
Wonderful. (again) what a combo Mr Squire and Bill Bruford. its just music that transcends and then you know Steve Howe and Rick Wakemen are about to join in too. 😉 oh and Jon .
Thank you once again Miquel. This is the first place I go when I want guidance on learning a Chris Squire bassline. I know I will always get the correct fingering and phrasing. You have created a legacy that honours Mr. Squires incredible contribution to music and bass playing. Thank you again.

+Cory Jennings Thanks Cory! I have considerably less touring experience... well proportional to the sizes of our countries - here for sure I do what I like with no compromises. Thank you very much for your encouragement!
Every bit as good as the original. Fantastic. It's really nice to hear this isolated, I had forgotten how beautiful some of those slow wandering bass lines sound, especially with the guitar turned down.
Great sound! I've never heard the bass in this song clearly. Here, your bass rises above the rest of the music, so one can make it out, yet you don't drowned out the other instruments.

In any case you can always write me here, email or on facebook.com/miguelfalcaobass. All the best
Great! I think that you are the best bassist for Yes bass covers. Absolutely accurate, you really make a very good work with these songs, Chris Squire would be proud! Besides Roundabout of course, it's definitely this song!
Roundabout or And You and I, personally
👍👍
Depends. I like to show this song to metalheads because the main riff is just so heavy
@@jakubsevcik1392 YES was the heaviest band I have ever seen. Heavy in many ways
Fantastic playing and sound. This makes me wish I could play with a pick.
Going to see YES this Friday.
You should be Yes's bass player after Chris passed on... He would be very proud

@@jerryseinfeld9815 Thank you. My doctors tell me I am in great health.
Chris Squire remains the most fascinating bass player ever. He must have had an innate sense for counterpoint. Great playing man!
Thank you, John!
at 5:49 that was a surprise arpeggio. I never knew! Thanks for showing it.
Hi Edgar! If you check Chris playing it live, he switches to that chordal part. Thanks!
