    Chris is why I play bass. From the first time I heard Roundabout, I said " I want to play bass and I want to sound exactly like that!" that was about 1974.

    I'm not a musician. So, I can't express why or how this video moved me so much, but the amount of thought and experience that went into creating this song - one of my ultimate favourites was... lovely. And mind-bending. Thank you so much for making this video. I'm going to have to listen to Yes with a bit more of an ear for the details. Please keep up the fantastic work.

    Assaulting all the mornings of the Interest shown, Presenting one another to the cord, All left dying, rediscovered Of the door that turned round To close the cover; All the interest shown To turn one another, to the sign, at the time, float your climb!"

    Interesting background notes. Chris Squire was hardly the shy retiring bass player, always pushing for his space which often led to friction within the band. An interesting style that changed the perception of the bass. I often thought he was a frustrated lead guitarist. However, he had clearly had a strong influence and a good understanding of musical form and certainly shaped the style of the band and notably more so in the later years.

    • @miguelbass
      @miguelbass  Год назад +1

      Thank you very much for your comment, Martin. Chris was always able to command the band, and not only with his bass. I think his taste was certainly a great influence on the bands direction.

    Hey Miguel, it's Bob from Righthand Missouri, and I just wanted to know when you get to the B-flat part around 2:52 if it makes you feel as good as it does me when I play along with this beloved Yes gem! (I'm thinking it does!) Cheers to you and all of Portugal for 2025! Ah-hee!

      @@miguelbass Yes indeed! If only he and Bill Bruford had gotten along better...but it all worked out for everybody - God's plan(!)
      Man, all my basses are currently messed up and I miss playing them, and I should like to play along with some of my favorite videos of your play-alongs....so I can see some finer details of fretting positions. Cheers!

    There's something about Chris Squires playing which is beyond technical ability, it's a feeling, a strange charm..something odd. Miguel gets it which is amazing, I play bass and try to be Chris, never quite make it, however I do come up with something! what is going on here? 2:54 brilliant. One of my personal fave Chis squire bass lines is America ruclips.net/video/Q0JkTIKm2iY/видео.html, he's just enjoying himself yet comes out with one of his best pieces, IMHO. 7:08

      That’s indeed a very tricky bass part in terms of what the rest of the band is doing. Plus if we consider that Chris sings a completely different melody and lyrics at the same time… that is Chris being Chris - bless him 💚✨ p.s.: thank you so much for your kind words!

    So Chris and Bill wrote Eclipse? I think it was the most symphonic thing Yes did in the 70s.

    • @miguelbass
      @miguelbass  8 месяцев назад +1

      It’s there on the liner notes, if course we’re never sure how these things go. Thankfully Bill is still around to tell us but we’ll always miss Chris’ version. I don’t think he ever commented on that, nor saw Chris calling credits to him in that way.
