Great playing Brian. What an underrated bass player Lake was (and he has to sing while playing his bass lines live as well). We will NEVER see their likes again.
I know, it makes me smile that we are/were alive during this period. So many amazing players who paved the way for us. Greg Lake is certainly in my top 5 fav bassists. Thank you for the comment.
Greg was a criminally underappreciated bassist. You can tell that he was originally a guitarist, but his lines aren't flashy or invasive: he knew when to stop playing and let Keith fill the lower register. The part at 3:43 stuck out to me as very similar to some of the runs he plays during the solo in 21st Century Schizoid Man, but I never would've appreciated it if you hadn't made this. Brilliant cover of a phenomenal song, thank you!
He definitely left space - as a bassist that might sound counter intuitive, unless of course you're frequency spectrum with a with a vintage Moog modular which will make everything muddy without some judicious EQ! I'd call him a lead bassist, that sits back. Which does him a massive disservice given how fantastic he is.
After that I wouldn't be surprised if he pulled Jesus from a hat. Lake, the master, demonstrated by this wonderful bassist, has to be the best. After 21st Century S Man who else would play this mind-blowingly? And take a look at ELPs "The Great Gates Of Kiev", played live,at Cal Jam(1974?), to get the universal climactic grandiosity of life---pursued and relished . And while singing & playing it---he f*cking chews gum. The deepest of Lakes---known so far.
Bravo! Note perfect, played beautifully with every nuance. Greg Lake would be proud of you for this. As a fellow progressive (keyboard) player here, I'm more than impressed, as you brought out how important Lake's tasteful playing is to the song. It's easy for it to be overshadowed by Emerson's keyboards and Carl's drumming, and of course the bass is never really as up in the mix as it should be (and that goes with 99% of most rock mixes).
Thank you for the kind words, I'm humbled and very appreciative. I agree with everything you said. I feel sad sometimes at how forgotten someone as talented as Greg Lake was, not to mention Emerson. Such a sad loss in such a profound way for me. Thank you again.
Brian, I just found this video today. I'm 64, Greg Lake has been my favourite musician since I was 11 in 1970. He has always been recognized as one of the greatest singers and acoustic guitarists of all time, which he most definitely was. However, he has been criminally underappreciated as one of the finest, most skilful bass players in history! You did him proud Brian. Your performance here was as Lake was throughout his life, absolutely flawless! You sent shivers up my spine and my eyes welled up with tears. Thank you my friend, I needed this. I miss him so very much!
Wow, thank you for the great comment. I agree with you 100%, truly amazing talent and very missed. Again, thank you for the kind words, glad you enjoyed it.
Great video Brian! Greg Lake was SO underrated as a bass player and you can see that in the pieces of ELP that you play and play flawlessly too. With ELP only 3 people, he had to cover a lot of ground and did of course. Thanks for posting and will look for more hopefully!
Greg did so many things well just watching him your tongue would hang out, a fantastic band in a tiny spec of time that was mind blowing, my son just got the ELP book for me with my name signed at the end with hundreds of other fans, also mind blowing, Trilogy my favorite, happy listening
He's really intimidating as a player. He was just so effortlessly flawless at anything he ever did. True inspiration for me. Thank you for the comment, I appreciate it.
This was one of the songs I learned when I started playing the bass by listening to the record on a turntable back in the late 70s… Mr Lake was a major factor in my life Amazing bass player. You did a great version. Well done
Thank you so much for the great comment. I was turned onto ELP a bit later (mid 80's) by a few older friends. But yeah, he was one of the best progressive players I've ever experienced, amazing and distinctive, as well as his voice. Sad day when he passed for sure. Thank you again.
What do great prog bands have in common? Great bass players - ELP - Greg Lake, Yes - Chris Squire, Rush - Geddy Lee, King Crimson - Greg Lake/Tony Levin.
Bloody fantastic Brian. A flawless tribute to a piece of music I love. You’ve allowed me to appreciate it even a bit further. Any possibility of a full brain salad tribute?
Brother, I'm in the same boat. But I have no business trying to play this being the extreme amateur I am. Been working on it for the last 12 months. aka slowly. Would have liked to see more of the neck on this cuz any help I can see is a BIG help! lol
Great cover! Sadly Greg or ELP never really got the credit they were due. All three members were great musicians. Not a lot of people were playing bass like that back in the 70s ... maybe Chris Squire.
It amazes me to see you playing such a difficult piece of music so flawlessly. Greg Lake deserves so much more recognition as do you sir.
I appreciate that so much and agree, he was a force to be reckoned with and deserved much more. Thanks again.

The World needs the full song! Karn Evil 1-2-3 Pliiis!
And he did this while singing! A phenom. Great work, Brian.
It is mind boggling to say the least. Thank you for the comment, appreciate it.

You are so right. I hate it when I bring up his name and someone doesnt know who he was.

Nice to see a person that plays bass get into ELP. Good work there.
Thanks a lot, I appreciate the kind words.

Also, I assume Greg came up with this bass line. So unbelievably creative, interesting, melodic, fast, sophisticated and downright awesome!
Just spectacular spectacular very nice to hear it so well played
Thank you!

Great cover. Best I’ve seen.
Thanks, I appreciate it.
I can see your hands well enough to learn. Thank you so much!
Thank you, you're welcome.

real nice. I love this song.
Excelente !! I’m happy to see someone doing justice and paying tribute to the late GREAT Greg Lake 🎸🔥❤️
Thank you so much. He was a major influence for me, sadly missed. Thanks again.
Excellent! Thanks for the up close of a great bass tune. ☮️
Thank you for the comment. The camera angle was weird on this one, glad you liked it regardless.
Great playing, and great camerawork as well! Awesome.
Thank you, although I wasn't happy with the angle, thank you all the same though.
Bloody fantastic Brian. A flawless tribute to a piece of music I love. You’ve allowed me to appreciate it even a bit further. Any possibility of a full brain salad tribute?
This is amazing, absolutely. I just cannot say anything.
You've just make me hands-on for learning this masterpiece!
Fantastic. What a great bass player/composer Greg Lake was. You’ve really done him justice.
Fantastic job! This looks like so much fun to play.
Really nice work. Always knew GL was an awesome bass player.
Great rhythm and really smooth, will check out your channel!
Well done!!
Thank you!
A virtuoso cover of Lake's baseline. I only wish it could have played to the end of the track.
That's a WOW cover ! I love it !
Thank you, much appreciated!
well done !!
Bravo!!!!
That is amazing

your tune and feel is just right!
Thank you!
Excellent job! 👍 😊
Thank you for the comment, I appreciate it.
That's up there with anything Geddy does. That's for sure.
Definitely agree with you there.
Geddy was inspired by Greg Lake.
@@jotapecu There's an interview where he mentions Entwistle, Squire and Lake in that order.👍👍
Bravo! It's rock n roll
I've covered knife edge chck it out
so damn good...
hendrix was supposed to play lead guitar for ELP, imagine the possibilities.
I just picked up a bass, looking for some easy riffs to learn
I hear that, I've pondered that many times before. Good luck in your bass playing 👍
Lake is alive!
I've always liked part 1 better then part 2
Me gusta.
Why didn’t you play the whole first Impression. I really enjoyed your bass guitar playing and I would have loved hearing it with Greg’s lead guitar.
wow
Any books showing this transcribed?
do you have a link to the tab for this?
I do not, sorry. I picked it up by ear.
@@ralgex that's impressive man no worries

Thanks for the comment. I agree, too many players go unnoticed.
Mike Rutherford was also a very good one, but with less presence and charisma
