😂 Once you mentioned Geoff's use of range I was sitting here thinking, "Just wait, keep going..." Ha! One of my favorite parts about this arrangement is that we get to hear a lower range for Eli. He has one of my favorite voices to listen to (in all ranges). 😊
Yay I knew you would love this one. Funny that you mentioned Phantom, they did do a cover of Phantom of the Opera with Rachel a few years ago. It’s an excellent song/video. It has 2 former members Tony and Earl. Tony works with Layne at Pattycake Productions which they founded together. Earl left for personal reasons. Another one you might enjoy is Warriors where Layne debuted his talent playing the violin while beatboxing! 😊
Rachel was a friend of Ariel at Disney for a number of years. So this was a role she was very good in. They are about to release a medley from Greatest Showman. Layne arranged and directed it, and I think the beatboxing will surprise you. And it does feature Rachel. Not as much theatrics, but the costuming is great and the concept is creative!
Great Reaction! I'd like to recommend to you some of my favourite Songs by Voiceplay: "Boy Bands in 5 min", "Billie Ellish in 3 min", "Panic! in 4 min Part 1 & 2" and "Queen in 5 min" are all great Medleys. Also their Moana Medley is really nice, it's their most watched video on RUclips. Hope to see you react to some of this Songs.
VoicePlay is so wonderfully theatrical. I love all the voices and characters they do. They have done Phantom of the Opera previously with Rachel. I still like VoicePlay’s non theatrical songs, though. My favorite is Can’t Help Falling In Love. Thanks for your reaction
I love how they low key just stuck a full cover of Poor Unfortunate Souls into the video. Like, every other song felt like it was bits and pieces to me, then Poor Unfortunate Souls I'm almost certain was Geoff going "Okay, I'm just gonna do the whole thing" and everyone else was like "Fair enough."
One of the things I really enjoy while listening to them is that transitions and key changes are all so smooth and worked in so well in the arrangements. Their knowledge and experience shows in everything they do.
funny you should mention Phantom of the Opera ... they did it with Rachel about 6 years ago if you go back to it you will see some of the older members as well Tony (paying the phantom) and Earl
When I first watched this, it was all the nostalgia! And too many people think of Geoff as just a low bass and forget that with his head voice (falsetto) and subharmonics, he has a nearly 5 octave range last I checked. I know for sure he can hit Eb1 and I think he's gotten up to maybe a D5. I can't remember. Anywho, his range is insane. And I miss J-None so much! When they brought him back for "Friends on the Other Side", I was like a kid at Christmas (well Halloween in that case 🤣).
AFAIK what he has hit so far in vocals is at least H0 (e.g. in Halo Theme; did D1 and possibly C#1 on multiple occasions) to G#5 (e.g. in Grace Kelly with Toxic Audio earlier in his career) in long notes, possibly A5 as a short note (checking his range in a tutorial and someone claimed also in Voiceplay's Friend Like Me, though it's hard to say there).
This is probably one of my favorite Voiceplay videos! Great reaction. The more you watch it, the more little things you will catch that were missed the first time.
I love all your reactions, you make me smile 🙂 I would love to see you give The Newfangled Four a listen - a whole different kind of acapella, barbershop! Their Zelda medley is beautiful, and their versions of It Sucks to Be Me and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious are just excellent!
If a guy in a short-sleeved yellow shirt and a blue/yellow bow tie advises you not to be scared - RUN! Lane does a good job of being crazed/manic in his solo. JNone does a great job as Sebastian. Goeff's four-octave gliss is impressive, to say the least.
I adore this cover and Rachel as Ariel gives me chills EVERY time. The first time I was nearly in tears...and Eli...I feel now is soooo underrated. He has such a beautiful versatile voice!
Love the reaction! A couple of recommendations…for more of J None’s goosebump inducing voice, check out “can’t help falling in love”. Also, Geoff recorded a B0 in the Halo theme cover…from what I hear it’s the lowest note ever recorded? Love to get your input on that one!
Awesome reaction, Chris!! It would be fun to watch them record a video. I have a feeling they have a lot of fun with it. I wish I could do the Patreon thing (tight budget here) because I gather the patrons get to see outtakes.
It is a struggle for me financially, but for 5 dollars a a V month I get to see their work a week ahead of time, see the behind the scenes (always entertaining) and get the mp3 ( and sometimes the karaoke track which has the background vocals) track. I have no musical training so a lot of what people say sort of goes over my head, but listening to the karaoke tracks I’ve been able to pick out a lot more of the background and supporting work that they do. It’s amazing how much that adds to my listing enjoyment when I listen to the full track again. If you can I strongly recommend it. I figured it out and it was $60 a year and that’s nothing in today’s world. Hope to see you there
@@janetdw I would but there are several groups I’d want to support. I’m also supporting a couple local charities right now, and I feel like that’s where my money needs to go.
@@creativecrewfam Check out the Charismatic Voice. Elizabeth is an opera singer who also teaches voice, and does reaction videos that talk in depth about vocal techniques used by the artists, and she’s really successful. I don’t know if Julia Nilon has Patreon, but she also is a voice teacher/reactor. Peter Barber is another vocalist/teacher who does reactions, though I suspect his patrons are more about supporting his singing (check out his cover of Change on the Rise). I enjoy reactions from folks who understand voice and music theory because it takes me back to when I was studying musical theater, and I like learning the hows and whys of things. Probably why I get a kick out of your reactions!
I'm guessing from the fact that you hit the piano after it that you figured out that the low note from Geoff was a D2, but something that actually hard to tell is that theres a double tracked D1 under there as well. I don't know where they got it but theres a couple of videos on youtube that have removed the D2, and just show the D1. I think it sounds better with the D2 in there but still impressive as all hell either way.
"I love the range that Geoff is having."
You ain't seen nothing yet, lmao
J None came back for October's Friends on the Other Side, and he killed the lead in it.
😂 Once you mentioned Geoff's use of range I was sitting here thinking, "Just wait, keep going..." Ha!

Yes! That’s one of my favorites!
Geoff as Ursula, Layne as Chief Louis. Eli as Flounder, Scuttle, and Jetsam. J.None as Sabastian, Flotsam. Then of course Rachel as Ariel. Perfect.
Layne has this wonderfully manic look at times. Both he and Eli look criminally insane at times in Hoist The Colours. So much fun.
Two words for hilarious VP antics: Chicken Song.
Rachel was a friend of Ariel at Disney for a number of years. So this was a role she was very good in.

I can’t waitttttttt!!!! Love Greatest Showman! Love musical theatre…love broadway…love it all! Haha

They have a couple of on stage videos one of them is called The Chicken Song and another is I believe is called Road Trip.
Yes. Those are so fun.

Geoffs D5-D1 slide at 5:01 is unreal!

please check Voiceplay ft Dj Young - BANG
that's show to you.. how amazing their vocalwork

Love it when reactors give love to Layne, none of this would sound nearly as good without Layne's drums.

Omg so stoked!!! Can’t wait for thisssss
I love watching you watch them! Your joy plus your knowledge just makes my day!!
They actually did Phantom of the Opera with Rachel, back when Tony was still with them.
Queen in 5 Minutes, My Shot (Hamilton), Superstition, Dragonborn Comes - Skyrim, My Mother Told Me
“Low key reminded of Phantom of the Opera”- I said the exact same thing when i first heard that part!
Rachel has a song by Queen (Somebody to Love) on X-Factor USA from 2013 you might want to hear.

9:13 9:26 "Sing it with me now." Sung by J None!
If you want to listen to something fun & hilarious by Voice Play check out their live stage song ( The Chicken song )
Moana Medley is really good tooooo. 😁 Great reaction! Was waiting for this one!

Great reaction, but may I suggest to take the video back a few seconds before resuming after a comment.
I usually do that, but if you caught it in this video…may have just been a slip. I’ll try to remember more often :)
5:36 I kinda wish you had left in whatever you said... That three or so octave slide is always worth a comment.
My comment wasn’t really anything. I was just looking at the camera in shock 😂
You want four octav rang try John Farnham.
Like that range and slide?
Voiceplay🙂, Home Free 😀, Pentatonix 😵💫
The musical TRIFECTA !!! I believe if they ALL ever sung together it would solve ALL THE WORLD'S PROBLEMS ! 😇💜💜💜🙏🗺 Could happen🥰
