Practicing with your nondominant hand will absolutely increase the number of holes in your wall.
😂
My way to practice follow-through is to keep the hand high at least until I hear the 'thud' of the dart on the board. As a former basketball player is just like when you throw a basketball and keep your hand high until it hit the rim or enter the basket. It works =
That’s a brilliant technique! 🎯 Keeping your hand up until you hear the 'thud' is a great way to reinforce follow-through. The basketball comparison is spot on-it’s all about maintaining that smooth, full motion for consistency. Sounds like your muscle memory from basketball is paying off in darts. Keep at it, and those darts will fly straighter every time!
Just picked up darts again after years of not playing. My issue is knowing what weight will work best. I'm starting out with 26 grams but I also picked up a set of 23 grams. Also shaft length is another question. Right now it seems I'm all over the board with 23 grams and I find the same issue with short shafts. I guess my question is; what normally works best "on average" for those of us just starting out? I do have some moments when I finally get a good follow through going in my throw, but I am certainly not consistent. I do plan to purchase your bundle, hopefully that will be a big help and maybe by the end of the year I'll be ready to find a league to join. Thanks for any feedback
Welcome back to darts! 🎯 Finding the right setup can be tricky, but you’re off to a great start by experimenting. Here are some tips:
Weight: 26 grams is a solid choice for beginners-it offers good control without being too heavy. If 23 grams feels inconsistent, stick with 26 grams for now, as it might help you find stability in your throw.
Shaft Length: Longer shafts tend to offer more control and stability, while shorter ones give a faster, more direct flight. For beginners, medium-length shafts are a great starting point to balance control and speed.
Consistency: The key to improving is sticking with one setup for a while. Constantly switching between weights or shaft lengths can make it harder to build muscle memory. Choose one setup and practice consistently.
Practice Follow-Through: You mentioned some success with a good follow-through-focus on making that a habit. A smooth and controlled throw with proper follow-through will improve your accuracy.
Finally, joining a league is a fantastic goal! With regular practice and a setup you’re comfortable with, you’ll be ready in no time. And thank you for considering the bundle-it’ll definitely help you refine your skills. Keep it up, and enjoy the journey back into darts!
just be confident bruh
Can i be honest. Ive only been playing darts for 2 years now, ive never seen anyone i play darts with, either my training partners, family or at my league, ive never seen a person not follow through. Who doesnt follow through? Thats not rocket science, if you throw anything you follow through, im confused how this is a problem people have
Fair point! 🎯 For most people, a follow-through feels natural-it’s like throwing a ball or swinging a bat. But you’d be surprised how many players, especially beginners, unconsciously stop their motion or snap back mid-throw. It's usually a result of nerves or overthinking.
The follow-through ensures smoothness and consistency, which is why it’s always emphasized. For you, it sounds like second nature (awesome, by the way!), but for others, it's a habit they might need to develop. Keep crushing it, and maybe share your secret with the follow-through strugglers out there!
