    Sonny beat the hell out of Floyd Patterson, put him to sleep twice in a span of time less then one year. And because of this I have more respect for Floyd then any other boxer. All his trainers, the public, the NAACP, all begged Patterson to not get in the ring with him. With the Civil rights movement going on, the last thing blacks needed was a mob controlled ex convict holding the heavyweight title. Floyd's trainers and even Floyd himself knew he had no chance, but principle and fairness within the sport were much more important to him then continuing to hold the title, he said Sonny deserves the fight, he's proved himself. Floyd was knocked out within minutes, when he awoke in the ring he procedded to ask everyone to give Sonny a chance, he's not a bad guy, he has positive qualities that will make him a better champ, a champ that will represent the boxing world, and blacks in America in a positive way everyone seems to think that he cannot.

      I've seen 3 former Heavyweight champions, as a child Clay known to most as Muhammad Ali, Big George Foreman on his second come back in person up close at the Kronks recreation center on the westside of Detroit, Larry Holmes. These men are huge, hands look like giant hands, my grandfather hand hands like these Men, these men are naturally strong nothing like these weak athletes today, these men didn't drugs or steroids. I know cause I grow up among men like them, they where kind, living, funny, always gave us children good advise. Not to say we always listened or took it, but we got the golden rule form our Elders in those days. These fighters didn't have bad things to say about Mr. Sonny Liston so why should we, most wasn't born then to know the truth of these men except by the news media reports of these men. Vilified Mike Tyson, called him a wife beater, Rapist and convict, it was all set up by Don King and the media to take Mike 300 million, get him in jail and use his money. It's funny how you really don't hear of his former wife, the woman he got locked up for, and the ass kicking he gave Don King.

    George Foreman, even after his long and illustrious career said, "no one ever hit me, as hard as Sonny did". Let that sink in folks. Foreman fought a TON of the hardest hitting heavyweights, of all time. Yet, he remembers way back to when he was a young sparring partner, the hardest hitting man, he ever met. Forever underrated, strictly because he took those dives, and tarnished his sport. What a shame.

    There's something about Sonny Liston, just something mysterious about the man, it feels like we're only getting one small section of a few pages, in a 500 page novel, very interesting guy

    • @jonathanblaze1648
      @jonathanblaze1648 10 лет назад

      The 2nd fight Liston took a dive. Watch the 1st fight, Ali totally outclassed him, it was a one sided beat down.

    • @carlitoboxing7isback
      @carlitoboxing7isback 10 лет назад +2

      Jonathan Blaze the first fight was fixed too. It has been witnessed, even Liston himself has been reported to admit it

      you obviously don't know boxing. go play with dolls

    • @cheesenibbler123
      @cheesenibbler123 10 лет назад

      the first fight probably wasnt fixed think about the situation Liston was in at the time, everyone hated him for beating patterson twice, he had been hassled by the police so many times, Ali was a total asshole to him as he was with everyone and Liston was not exactly mentally strong not saying he was dumb but he didnt know how to deal with someone who was in his face all the time trying to make a mockery of him etc, he came into that fight frustrated and angry if anything and Ali would not fight him he would dance and peck away at him he probably had enough of Ali and thought may as well give up to me that makes sense the first fight being fixed who would it be fixed by? it seems that beating Liston is best done by beating him mentally as he is physically extremely strong and if put into any fight without having any mental influences was close to unbeatable. His second fight was almost definately a fix due to the fact that the Muslim brotherhood was making such a massive statement at the time I doubt Liston wanted to end up deadlol and lol at the Isaac Frost name why would you ever want to be associated with a character who is a total dick and if anyone picks that character on fight night champion they get immidiately called a "frost spammer" as that player is clearly shit and can only go with the best character on the game instead of trying to use skill.

    • @carlitoboxing7isback
      @carlitoboxing7isback 10 лет назад +1

      man it's not about who's an asshole and who's not. It's about MONEY. It's about the MAFIA which controlled Sonny's entire career. There are several proofs that both fights have been fixed

    I would have absolutely LOVED to have witnessed Sonny Liston vs. Joe Frazier. For so many years I have been curious as to why this fight never occured. The outcome would have been fascinating to watch.

    • @joelshrallow
      @joelshrallow Год назад

      Allegedly Frazier's manager/trainer wanted nothing to do with him just like Cus D'Amato wanted nothing to do with him when he trained Patterson. This is all hearsay and if Joe had a choice they would have fought.

    Stop saying he was underrated, Sonny Liston is always rated in the top five greats. in my opinion, the greatest of all time if he's started boxing earlier. the mans a legend.

  • @elkevinski
    @elkevinski 6 месяцев назад +3

    As a kid I was fooled by how he was depicted. I always thought of him as the typical bad guy who Ali, as the "good" guy, humbled.
    As I grew up I discovered the truth. He's not only one of the best boxers of all time, but a MAN. A true man who had to fight not only in the ring, but outside of it. As Ali "fought" for the black people against racism and discrimination, Sonny had to fight outside of the ring for himself. Always treated poorly, never a chance given to show others that he was indeed a good person. He did what he had to because he had no other options, but the he never hurt someone just because he felt like doing it. Because he enjoyed it...
    How he acted around kids and elder people just says everything.
    More than the title, he desired love & acceptance, which he never got from the public. He was demonized and depicted as only a thug, an enforcer for the mafia and an evil man, and I'm proof that the media made everyone believe he was all that and only that.
    I truly hope there's an after life or something like that, and that he's capable of seeing how, after so many years of his demise, people are showing the respect, the love, admiration and acceptance he longed so much in life.
    Thank you for your videos Reznick, I've been watching them for years and the quality of the footage, the music pick and edition is second to none.
    There's no better tribute to this man and there will never be.
