A career highlight of one of the greatest Heavyweights ever, The Big Bear, Sonny Liston.

Short Change Hero - The Heavy
American Beauty Theme - Paul Newman
Night Train - James Brown
Sonny beat the hell out of Floyd Patterson, put him to sleep twice in a span of time less then one year. And because of this I have more respect for Floyd then any other boxer. All his trainers, the public, the NAACP, all begged Patterson to not get in the ring with him. With the Civil rights movement going on, the last thing blacks needed was a mob controlled ex convict holding the heavyweight title. Floyd's trainers and even Floyd himself knew he had no chance, but principle and fairness within the sport were much more important to him then continuing to hold the title, he said Sonny deserves the fight, he's proved himself. Floyd was knocked out within minutes, when he awoke in the ring he procedded to ask everyone to give Sonny a chance, he's not a bad guy, he has positive qualities that will make him a better champ, a champ that will represent the boxing world, and blacks in America in a positive way everyone seems to think that he cannot.
Zerlono1 Patterson was way too small for HW but that's where the $$$ was
@boxers nation i think he means physique not height
I've seen 3 former Heavyweight champions, as a child Clay known to most as Muhammad Ali, Big George Foreman on his second come back in person up close at the Kronks recreation center on the westside of Detroit, Larry Holmes. These men are huge, hands look like giant hands, my grandfather hand hands like these Men, these men are naturally strong nothing like these weak athletes today, these men didn't drugs or steroids. I know cause I grow up among men like them, they where kind, living, funny, always gave us children good advise. Not to say we always listened or took it, but we got the golden rule form our Elders in those days. These fighters didn't have bad things to say about Mr. Sonny Liston so why should we, most wasn't born then to know the truth of these men except by the news media reports of these men. Vilified Mike Tyson, called him a wife beater, Rapist and convict, it was all set up by Don King and the media to take Mike 300 million, get him in jail and use his money. It's funny how you really don't hear of his former wife, the woman he got locked up for, and the ass kicking he gave Don King.
My father's dying in the hospital. He's a baby boomer, loves Sonny. This was the best thing to happen to him in so very long. THANK YOU MR. REZNICK♥️

Hi, sorry to hear about your father, what did he say about Sonny?
God bless you all
Very sad when parents dye,, nothing like that sadness, ♥️sonny liston invincible, unbeatable late 1950s/ early 1960s prime years
HUGE CONDOLENCES 🙏
LITTLE KIDS LOVED HIM AND FELT SO AT EASE WITH HIM.
WHAT A LEGEND!
IMO the most underrated heavyweight in boxing history.
***** Some people say he is just a bully slugger. I disagree with that. He was actually pretty technical and he had one of the best (if not the best) jab in boxing history. The only boxer I have ever seen with a jab that can knock people out. Truly was an amazing boxer.
***** Haha yeah, Ali was horrified of Liston in the first fight. I really do feel bad for him, no one appreciated him in his life time and he is really underrated now days.
Before Tyson, and Foreman, who had folks thinking, "This guy, nobody will ever beat him...he could go 100-0", there was Liston, who many felt the exact same about. And he came up right after Marciano, which says a lot.
Dundee: "He had a powerful jab--knocked guys down with the jab".
Alex Lynch Yes. Angelo Dundee had to throw Ali into the ring or he would have quit when he acted blind. Ali was the one overrated, not Liston.
Mike Pinc Ummm I said "Underrated" I don't know what you're talking about.
He would have destroyed Wilder and Joshua in the same night.
With that kind of punching power and intimidation damn he would probably beat fury, Joshua, and wilder in the same year
farhan al syafiq *same hour
same fight
With the Same Underwear
What about fury??
6 feet tall and A Seven foot wingspan, the perfect boxing profile.
Murtie2017champ Heavywieght Edition largest fists in boxing history
@@johnyboy19685 slightly over 6 feet tall. 84" reach, and 15 1/2" fists. The man was an absolute monster. RIP Sonny Liston. He was never given a fair chance
He’s my favorite heavyweight boxer of all time
@@MrDemi-cf3zt Hes my 2nd favorite to Ali
@@j_ko9 and don’t forget that he quite possibly hit harder than Foreman.
All these 'experts' talking about Tyson being the fiercest boxer ever. Liston was terrifying. The reach of a super heavy like Lewis, one of the strongest jabs in history, the knock out power of Tyson and the dogged determination of a Marciano.... such a shame the media and mafia got to him.
Testimony to this guy that Cus spent his career looking for 'his own Liston'
Saxon Centurion r
Determination like rocky? I don't think so. And u don't have to be an expert to see that Tyson was the most fiercest boxer ever because he was
Hassan Islam no he wasn't
foreman and liston no boxers will ever be as feared as they were except maybe max baer
@@PP-ec6cw yes he was
When he smiles he looks like a real nice guy
Beautiful work Rez. This will always be my favorite tribute of all time!
Still been your favorite tribute?
@@fabianesponda1050 Still my favorite!
@haNZAgod unbeatable, invincible in his prime late 1950s/ early 1960s ( 1962). Sonny liston
Liston from 58 to 63 is a problem for any heavyweight past or present. The guy was like Mike Tyson and George Foreman combined. He was the complete fighter, defence, sledgehammers in both hands. Reach of a man of 6 foot 8, chin, iq and probably the most brutal jab in heavyweight history.
They need to make a movie on this Liston
check out phantom punch
Pedro Guillamón Moreno ving rhames ain't fit to play sonny, sonny would make rhames look mediocre in stature
If that happens? Then Idris Elba should play him.
cancerjuly1989 idris elba doesnt look like liston at all body type, face, height etc
Terry crews for Liston
“Sonny Liston, no doubt the scariest human being I have ever met in the ring.”-George Foreman
*Underrated*
Underrated AF, they ranked him like 71 out of 100 in fight night champion, ppl really sleep on this guy man
8:42 is that ali
vijay rajthala no
its henry clark
Richard V exactly
I love that jab.
a thing of beauty! 👍
Dam the reach of his. He was only 6'0 ft and he had the same reach as Lennox Lewis, that's not normal
Genetic freak
he actually has one of the largest ape indexes (wingspan\height) ever recorded
with massive hammers for hands
Chex2331 his fists were near 16inches that's insane
borkan alexander the conqueror I know your ugly... troll
He whooped my idol (patterson) twice, but I have huge respect for this man. I feel he was a good man at heart, It saddens me he died a sad lonely man. May god rest his soul.
He died, heavily decomposed, sitting in a grand house, bloated with methane and maggots, a man that could've been and was favored to be one of the greatest idols in boxing history and was once favored to be possibly one of if not the greatest influences on the black race, a man that came from the absolute depths of poverty with his own two fists to make something of his life. A sad fate of a champ bereaved of recognition.
A tremendous puncher and in my opinion one of the 5 best fighters in boxing history.
George Foreman, even after his long and illustrious career said, "no one ever hit me, as hard as Sonny did". Let that sink in folks. Foreman fought a TON of the hardest hitting heavyweights, of all time. Yet, he remembers way back to when he was a young sparring partner, the hardest hitting man, he ever met. Forever underrated, strictly because he took those dives, and tarnished his sport. What a shame.
Billy Blazer Foreman also said Cooney and Ron Lyle hit him the hardest. Which do i believe ? The pro george foreman who has been hit many times during his fight with Lyle. Not the 16 year old kid foreman
Foreman also said Liston was the only boxer to ever intimidate him. He also said that once when sparring with Liston he opened up and hit Liston as hard as he could and Liston just shook his head and said no son and carried on.
@@johnyboy19685 he was just 19
@@hassanislam7227 Forman said Ron Lyle, hit him the hardest but Cooney hit harder than Frazier! Any fighter back then who speaks of Liston will say he is in the top 3 hardest heavyweight punchers of all time. It always seems to be between Lyle, Liston and Shavers.
Johny boy your story made me smile. I just imagine a young George Foreman sparring against Liston and after George hits him as hard as he can and Liston says “no son” it is as if Liston were teaching and telling George what mistakes he’s making and that he needs to improve so that George becomes a monster with a great punching power
He wasn't 38 when he died, even the first fight with Ali he looked to be in his early 40's. Damn shame, guess we'll never know, but still one of the greatest of all time!
Rocky Marciano retired at 32 years ;; sonny liston fought muhammad ali at 32 years supposedly;; not same person who fought Floyd Patterson
Both Ali fights were fixed, so his age was academic.
@@lloydkline1518 Sonny Liston was 41 years old when he fought Ali. Sonny started professional boxing in his 30's
I believe he was maybe 4-6 years older than his reported age not the decades older that a lot of people believe.Sonny was a frequent alcohol and drug abuser and lived a hard life, that probably had more to do with making him look older than anything else.
Another GREAT tribute thank you Sonny was the man Tyson tried to be. It's a real shame Sonny didn't come along in the 80's because then he would have been an international superstar, & would have great matches with Tyson. We never got to really see him in his prime either, it's a shame everyone ducked him cause he would've been the dominant champ late 50's early 60's. RIP Sonny Liston the real baddest man on the planet!!!
The clips, the highlights, the music-just perfection. I fitting tribute to one of the most underrated, misunderstood and devastating boxers in heavyweight history.
The music in the begining wet my eyes a little.
To Sonny Liston, one of the best and hardest hitting HWs of all time.
Quite possibly the best. He dove both times with Ali and did what he was told to do by the mob.
Ali made us forget Sonny but the man was Marciano and George Foreman in one boxer
He was a more polished boxer than foreman and Marciano but I know what you mean
The most underrated champion in HW history, the baddest man to ever put on a pair of boxing gloves, and a top 5 HW of all time (I've got him top 3). R.I.P to my favorite fighter, Charles Sonny Liston.
As long as Ali isn't no. 1, because he doesn't deserve that spot.
@@Mikep487 then who does
@@WarEnjoyer-gm5yh maybe Foreman.
@@WarEnjoyer-gm5yh I've got George number 1, Sonny number 2, Lennox 3, Holmes 4
@@Thor-Orion Decent list, but Ali has the best claim for Goat status. He faced 23 top contenders during his career and beat all of them at least once, those being Norton, Frazier, Cooper, Williams, Patterson, Foreman, etc and he won the undisputed title 3 times.
1) Ali, 2) Liston, 3) Louis, 4) Foreman, 5) Holmes. Lennox can be placed lower than fighters like Dempsey and Frazier also.
Sonny liston in his prime was unstoppable he was the complete fighting machine heart like a lion abnormal reach frightning. Punching power in both fists and he'd had police batons broken on his scull and he still stood his ground. Do'es this sound like the kind of man who would throw the towell in for a sore shoulder
If Sonny was around today he would make a mozza of the heavy weight division! When I look back at Liston's life I feel so sorry for him. From the day he was born and how he was raised until his death. RIP.
Liston had the physique of a modern day heavyweight but the endurance and boxing ability of an old school heavyweight
I watch this video often while putting on my hand wraps before my workout.
LEGENDARY!
thank you Mr. Reznick
Does it take you 14 minutes to put them on?
@@ChristIsGod777 Probably took his time
The best heavyweight boxer of all time bar none. If Sonny liston had been allowed to fight to his potential in his fights with Ali there would of been only one winner. A truly genuine ordinary tough person with a heart of gold sadly miss understood by a lot of people. A true champion.
The greatest ever, and I don't really think it's close. A great man as well.
He sadly couldn’t fight for the title again and had to fight against average fighters just for easy money
The Liston story is a classic of how the fake media and police forces who followed their lead harassed and mistreated a man who had put his past behind him and deserved to be treated with respect. He is one of the greatest fighters that ever lived and he was hurt badly by the undeserved media attacks.
08:45 Liston sparring a young George Foreman!
Very Old sonny liston had sparing sessions with young George Forman;; sonny liston fought muhammad ali 32 years old; rocky Marciano retired at 32 years old: young sonny liston 1950s/ 1962 put Cassius clay on the stretcher with smelling sauce & body bag 🎒
@@lloydkline1518 Liston probably started professional boxing at 32 years old. He was around 40 when he fought Ali.
Sadness and abuse were written on his inexpressive
face, poor man, so much suffering in his esrly years for sure did take a big toll on him
What a guy and what a legend. Sonny Liston is one of the top ten heavyweights of all time without question imagen just how great he would have been if he fought younger.
Great tribute I really enjoyed the training and his fights and the music he trained to. Thanks
Liston was a hell of a fighter
I wish he epitaph said that about him, Charles "Sonny" Liston, one helluva a fighter... A man is short and sweet, but a helluva fighter is the only definitive thing most people even know about him.
Great video, great music soundtrack. Thanks. A beautiful tribute to Sonny Liston.
Has anyone noticed?,,,,,, Sonny Liston was only 6'0 but, he has freakishly long arms🤷,,,,,,incredible.
6 foot 1 84 inch reach
'BY FAR' the best music I've ever heard on any highlight video! True Bad-ass selection!!
one of the most feared man in boxing history
A great tribute to a great boxer. It´s so sad that life never gave him and his talent a chance. I still rank him as one of the ten best heavyweight of all time.
Sonny mah man....great editing, great music!
Its a shame how his life ended up , outside the ring he was a gentle giant
Sorry, but outside the ring Sonny was anything but gentle, except around kids. He loved kids and was gentle with them because he knew he could trust them.
He was nice to friends and family and kids, but he hated the police because they harassed him all of the time.
Wonderful video. Incredible music and montage. The Black Bear is my favourite boxer.
An outstanding video - great work.
Studied boxers as a kid and he was definitely on the list of greatness
Really nice tribute you did for Sonny.
What an awesome tribute! Thank you Rez!
One of the best highlights I've ever seen. Amazing work
Reznick.. please let 'em comming.. Liston is so forgotten,.. what a shame one of the best of all time.. more vids
That was fantastic!! Thank you for posting this!!
Best sport-career highlight forever
Congrat, Reznick!
There's something about Sonny Liston, just something mysterious about the man, it feels like we're only getting one small section of a few pages, in a 500 page novel, very interesting guy
Zerlono1 very true
I wish he where alive today to reveal more pages in that novel.
It would've made for one of the best movies of the century.
Complimenti REZ. Per i tuoi tributi.. FANTASTICO
That was a nice tribute and keep up the good work.
Reznick, your highlights are the best. Brilliant work.
Magnificent video, the best of Sonny on RUclips.
The soundtrack to this vid is epic
nice montage, and music, well done .
Legendary man. So sad the way he was treated by his people he was a great Champion.
This is awesome bud keep it up.
I still can't believe how amazing this tribute is.
If it wasn't for the Italian Mafia sonny Liston would have stayed champion for a long time
The mafia got him into.pro boxing
best boxing tribute on youtube, and probably the hardest man to make a tribute to
I am with these guys. Sonny Liston - one of the all time greats!!!
Your videos are hands down the best i have watched
NIce thanks for this Reznick.
I loved the music!
great video , Bravo
When I started watching this video I thought the opening music should have been Night Train which I believe was a song Liston loved. Glad to see this tune at the end. Great video -- as a;ways.
great highlight!
I have him in my top 10. Just a beast and good boxer. That jab of his was one of the best jabs.
This is superb!
GREAT VIDEO.....THANK'S SO MUCH !
Both Ali fights have been proved to be fixed. This is the best boxing tribute on youtube period.
The 2nd fight Liston took a dive. Watch the 1st fight, Ali totally outclassed him, it was a one sided beat down.
Jonathan Blaze the first fight was fixed too. It has been witnessed, even Liston himself has been reported to admit it
you obviously don't know boxing. go play with dolls
the first fight probably wasnt fixed think about the situation Liston was in at the time, everyone hated him for beating patterson twice, he had been hassled by the police so many times, Ali was a total asshole to him as he was with everyone and Liston was not exactly mentally strong not saying he was dumb but he didnt know how to deal with someone who was in his face all the time trying to make a mockery of him etc, he came into that fight frustrated and angry if anything and Ali would not fight him he would dance and peck away at him he probably had enough of Ali and thought may as well give up to me that makes sense the first fight being fixed who would it be fixed by? it seems that beating Liston is best done by beating him mentally as he is physically extremely strong and if put into any fight without having any mental influences was close to unbeatable. His second fight was almost definately a fix due to the fact that the Muslim brotherhood was making such a massive statement at the time I doubt Liston wanted to end up deadlol and lol at the Isaac Frost name why would you ever want to be associated with a character who is a total dick and if anyone picks that character on fight night champion they get immidiately called a "frost spammer" as that player is clearly shit and can only go with the best character on the game instead of trying to use skill.
man it's not about who's an asshole and who's not. It's about MONEY. It's about the MAFIA which controlled Sonny's entire career. There are several proofs that both fights have been fixed
ive seen this video so many time keep up the good work
I would have absolutely LOVED to have witnessed Sonny Liston vs. Joe Frazier. For so many years I have been curious as to why this fight never occured. The outcome would have been fascinating to watch.
Allegedly Frazier's manager/trainer wanted nothing to do with him just like Cus D'Amato wanted nothing to do with him when he trained Patterson. This is all hearsay and if Joe had a choice they would have fought.
Best Tribute I've Seen!
The best tribute possible.
Liston certainly knew how to use that reach of his didn't he.
This is one of the BEST video's that I have seen. Great job!!!! maurice
A great man.
A champion and one of the best heavyweights ever to walk this benighted planet.
RIP.
Sonny always had to fight more things than his opponents. He finally came to realise that he could never win. Interesting person in my lifetime.
Goddamn, what a fantastic tribute! Your channel is great, Rez. Thanks a lot.
possibly one of your best vidz Rez!!
beautiful video.
Stop saying he was underrated, Sonny Liston is always rated in the top five greats. in my opinion, the greatest of all time if he's started boxing earlier. the mans a legend.
As a kid I was fooled by how he was depicted. I always thought of him as the typical bad guy who Ali, as the "good" guy, humbled.
As I grew up I discovered the truth. He's not only one of the best boxers of all time, but a MAN. A true man who had to fight not only in the ring, but outside of it. As Ali "fought" for the black people against racism and discrimination, Sonny had to fight outside of the ring for himself. Always treated poorly, never a chance given to show others that he was indeed a good person. He did what he had to because he had no other options, but the he never hurt someone just because he felt like doing it. Because he enjoyed it...
How he acted around kids and elder people just says everything.
More than the title, he desired love & acceptance, which he never got from the public. He was demonized and depicted as only a thug, an enforcer for the mafia and an evil man, and I'm proof that the media made everyone believe he was all that and only that.
I truly hope there's an after life or something like that, and that he's capable of seeing how, after so many years of his demise, people are showing the respect, the love, admiration and acceptance he longed so much in life.
Thank you for your videos Reznick, I've been watching them for years and the quality of the footage, the music pick and edition is second to none.
There's no better tribute to this man and there will never be.
Amen, brother. Liston got in the game late in life. Had he been born five years later boxing history would be totally different. Amazing fighter. Incredible arsenal of punches.
love the soundtrack
who is the Singer please?
dam, jab comes from the other side of the ring and still can reach you.
Deserves more views, one of the greatest heavyweights ever. The only boxer Ali was legitimately terrified of
He was terrified because on the up and up, Ali knew Liston would destroy him.
One of the best heavyweight of all time. So underrated.
People who they haven't forgotten Sonny always will be friends of mine. Sonny is easy in the top ten of all time.
night train plus a lil speed bag from liston beautiful sound
