Home use only and maintained! Woah. Nice find. The boards looks brand new. Playfield seems in very good condition. Looks like not much to do beside replacing some small part (e.g. stickers on the inserts, missing wire - you can probably get that stuff at Marco's for a few bucks). I wouldn't do much to it, beside putting some LEDs in and maybe a Li-Ion battery. And don't convert it back to some prototype stuff. That stuff was removed because it made the pin too busy and that stuff breaks the flow. Played one with the prototype stuff re-added. Was a good call to remove that stuff, made the pin better. And use the Tournament ROMs.
It's my understanding the prototype stuff was removed to saves costs. I probably will not do it, as it's really involved and destructive.
Only thing I noticed is that the flow seems to be off for that gimmick (looks cool but plays clunky IMHO) and therefore assumed they removed that feature for that reason early in the production run. Then sold it as an addon to clear their inventory of the non standard parts. If it were for costs they wouldn't have the holes on the play field as they knew exactly how much production costs in parts before production even starts. So it was a change late in the game. Sure, maybe they wanted to shave of some bucks later or there might have been some maintenance issue that were discovered late or even manufacturing issues? I don't know much about the pin's history. You probably researched it more than me then me, and if you say it was for costs, well then I stand corrected.
Anyway, great pin in almost mint condition. With LEDs it will be a great combo with your Skate or Die. Looking forward seeing another video on that pin!
Immaculate. Wow thats awesome you found out about the prototype setup and could mod it back to that stage of dev, but i agree its better to leave such a pristine game alone man.
Great video John. At first I thought it was a Banzai Run under those blankets (lol), but Radical looks like a lot of fun.

John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech yes, I had the Weirdo as well and the Brand X with the skull and crossbones holding a heart. I always liked their crazy colors and art work. I think I did see some limited release on EBay. I should pic one up for garage art. Are Independent and slime ball wheels still around? That's what I had, along with my cool Redline BMX with KKT pedals, Uni seat, Skyway Tuff mag wheels and California Lite checker pads👍🏻😁

John this is INDEED a "grail". Send the playfield off to Todd Tuckey at TNT amusements ( AT the least give him a call !) and get the insert stickers replaced and have fresh mylar placed on the playfield this machine DESERVES that kind of preservation.
His shop also specializes in LED conversions, they do awesome work! seriously.

I've seen where you can get a dual CR2032 holder, so that could be an option instead of AAs.

The 5 million point shot update is one that makes it so instead of the multiball jackpot value being random, it's always locked at 5 million (regardless of what the display says). It's useful for tournaments so no one gets boned by getting their jackpot value randomly set at 3 million while someone else's is randomly set at 9 million.
John, it looks like you are missing a part on the launch gate. That usually has a one way wire gate on it that keeps the ball from going back down the launch ramp. Marco probably has it.

I would say to stay away from TNT as well....there is a guy who only does pinball in Southeastern PA, he restores and resells and does housecalls to repair. The pics on his website look really nice for the stuff he has done. pinballclinic and his name is Ron, in case you wanted to do a little research. Love your channel and your blog; slowly building up Don's Arcade (currently 5 games - Space Invaders Deluxe (dad was original owner, always in family); Multicade I built, Zaxxon, Golden Tee '99; House of the Dead 2). Thank you for hours and hours and hours of entertainment, expertise, learning and enjoyment.

I've done videos on remote mounting the battery. You guys are preaching to the choir. :) It's really low risk as long as you actually change the batteries once a year.
You probably already know this, John, but don't wait for it to fade & not pop anymore before getting it clear coated. By then it'll be too late. Awesome game. Glad it's in your collection now.

Yes, it's not going to fade in the basement. It already has a clearcoat on it and I'll maintain it.
With the inserts, why not put the new stickers on and cut a big piece of mylar to cover that and the slingshot area.

You can do color in GI if you're smart about it. I find it's more an art than science. I also found using colored bulbs matching under the playfield you can enrich the colors.
John, you mentioned PAPA. Bowen Kerins does a tutorial for this game on PAPA's channel. Bowen is great right? Have you checked it out?
Forget the batteries, just install some NVRAM and never worry again!

Banana flippers are curved like a banana. These are just regular flippers. Time warp has banana flippers. Very nice purchase. Would recommend getting rid of those batteries and put in lithium battery those things can kill a board if they explode

Wow totally thought it was Banzai Run but Radical is way better. Congrats on the grail, I use lithium AA batteries in my games if you want another option.

Awesome to see both of your excitement over such a minty game! Quick question. What kind of modification do I have to do to use a standard monitor in a Donkey Kong cabinet? Doesn't the Sanyo 20 EZ run off 100 volts and the video from the game board has negative sync or something?
The video is inversed. Most 20 EZs have an inverter board on them that you can repurpose for another monitor. You'd have to check the monitor manual you want to use and see what the suggested input voltage is. If it can't handle the 100V you might want to put in a new isolation transformer.

FYI SMD stands for Surface Mount Device not Surface Mount Diode. Pretty much every electronic component can be purchased in an SMD package these days. You might've just misspoke, just figured I'd mention it, not really important.

Why use pulses to dim lights instead of just lowering the voltage (using whatever variable thing that the circuitry can do on its own)?
The Radical I've played has it lined up so the plunge feeds it straight up the upper ramp, which felt really awesome. Is there a way you can adjust yours to do the same? It feels so off just seeing it plunge straight into those targets.

Right, for the price of the TNT battery board you can buy 8 Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA's that won't leak and last for 15-20 years. And you'll be providing the correct 6V voltage, not the 3V a coin cell has.

The only thing I don't like about your new pinball is that you will find some rational for selling it in a year otherwise it's a near flawless machine.

Haha, Okura, even your statement is an exaggeration, because we Americans--people from the USA more specifically, since that's where John and I are from--don't always exaggerate. But yeah, we do a lot, I think, and some exaggerations make sense and fit in, but this one (9 months = "a full year") is just too much to make sense.

Ugh, LEDs... I mean, to each their own but I've only seen a few machines that look good with LEDs, and usually it's because they thought about which ones to replace instead of replacing the entire thing.

What about TNT Amusements in Southampton, PA to redo your play field , but they are kind of pricey, which you probably know, if you know of TNT Amusements,
Send It To TNT Amusements they do restores and are great at it they would replace the lights replace the battery so it would not leak and restore the play field

I do most repairs and mods myself on my pins, and sofar ive been forced to an expert only once, with some game boards that i just couldnt get working.

i am born in 1984 and to tell the truth i really don't care about 80s arcade games. i am more about 90's or late 90's or newer ones and those are more interesting to me then any 80s one can ever be. you seem to stop at the early 90's and don't have newer stuff. guess you grew up in the 80's instead of born then. don't know why some people just stop at 80's or early 90's and don't even look at late 90's or newer stuff like they are not worth it. even where you put arcade games for people to play you don't have the newer stuff. some people want to play the new stuff too.
To watch about 90s look for the PC nostalgia people. The golden age for arcades was the 80s because it was then that the arcade games were always better than what we could have at home. In the 90s the arcades lost this supremacy and Doom and Quake was what was hot back then. There are lots of 90s PC people out there in RUclips.
