The first prototype run of Bally Radical machines had a Vertical Up Kick (VUK) installed. I decided to add this hardware to the machine, which adds a lot to the gameplay.
Just found your channel and really like it. A good mix between casual and expert knowledge thrown in, not overly edited, and fun to watch. Reminds me a lot of Johns Arcade. Hope to see more tours and restores! And....while clearly not your main thing, hoping to see some more video arcade games in the mix 😊
I really appreciate the good words! I hope others get inspired by what I've been able to with these machines. I would love to add some vids, but I still live in Germany, and classic arcade games (real ones) are very rare and very expensive over here. An original Donkey Kong would cost as much as a pin! The French, Italians, and Dutch historically had a lot of pinball machines in their cafes, so they are quite prevalent!
I'm planning on doing some similar modification on one of my F14 Tomcats as I've been restoring it and that's in pieces already. There was a slingshot between the upper TOM and CAT standup targets on the proto machines but they removed it when the pin went in production. It would be nice to put one sling in there just for fun. Maybe with a bypass switch hooked in the circuit to turn the slingshot off if it's too crazy up there :D
It's funny you mention F-14 because I am sitting here working on an Arduino-based mod to that game as well. Interesting about the 3rd kicker in that machine. I had no idea about it...but it should be easy to add back in if you wanted to.
Very nice! Could you shorten the bottom two rails of the wireform even more so it hits the ramp more often? Or use a less powerful coil? Or bend the top two rails down so point into the ramp?
Hi there! Yes, I'm going to experiment with the positioning of the wireform...and perhaps also bending the two rails at the end of the wireform and see if I can get the ball to consistently go down the ramp. I believe that's what was intended.
Excellent effort there mate. Especially how you managed to meet your original hole you drilled underneath from the top side. May have missed it but was the microswitch on the subway ramp already in the wiring harness?
Radical is so underrated, one of the best pinball games ever
It really is! Not enough people have played it.
Amazing job John.
Thanks Lajos! I really enjoy this stuff. Maybe I can find some cheap machines in Hungary some day ;)

That’s alot of work!
It sure was. I think it was worth it. really makes sense to have the VUK and wireform in the game!

Great research and work, much respect. Looks like you now have the Bally “premium” version, heh
It's getting there!! :)
Great work
Thans for this video, looking good😊
My pleasure 😊
Sehr gut! Love Radical!
Amazing job John.
Thanks!!

20-second adjustment to that wireform arm and it goes down the ramp 100% of the time now. Thanks for the tip!
@@duffysarcade412 Awesome! If you weren't 6k miles away I'd love to come try it out haha. Love the videos.
needs turning a little bit. Just the removed upper sling to do now!
Yep, I've order the parts to install the sling. Should get to that in about a month

Thanks! I added the subway ramp microswitch and wired it to the old stand-up target wires
@@duffysarcade412 makes perfect sense!
For sale?
Nope :)
