  • This cab ride was recorded on the 2nd last day of operation for this 750 mm gauge railway - the only one of it's kind in Switzerland that served passengers daily. The last day was overcast, making this the last sunny day of operation for these trains.
    The railway is beloved in the region - made apparent by the large number of people who came to ride on it one last time, take photographs or stand by and wave. The trains were decorated with reefs and running in longer configurations than usual for the weekend.
    After the final public train in the early hours of the morning on the 6th of April, it was farewell. The trains were sold to a 760mm railway in Slovakia and the tracks would be rebuilt with the more standard 1000 mm gauge. This would make it cheaper to produce rolling stock and allow a possible connection to the tram network of Basel in the future.
    The new railway is now in operation. During the construction process I filmed a video from a car to give viewers a glimpse into what was happening. It will be released on this channel eventually too - as well as a video of the new line.
    I hope you enjoyed the video. If you'd like to donate, please click the following link. Donations will be used for equipment and software in order to bring you higher quality videos. www.paypal.com... Thanks for watching and have a great day!

    At first my cynical brain thought the line was being shut down for good, but I'm grateful to see it's being upgraded. Still, it fits so well into its surroundings, and it has the feel of some of the rural Japanese lines. I'm always impressed at how much service the Swiss can provide on these curvy single-track railways. I wish we could learn that lesson here in the USA.

    Beautiful video! At first I thought that the line was shutting down permanently and completely before realizing that the old narrow gauge was merely being replaced.

    Gone, and not scrapped! Pleased the trains are being used on another system, makes the retirement of these trains bitter sweet.
    Glad you wee able to record one of the last journeys for us all ! 👍
    With the amount of construction equipment on the linesides, can't see it being closed for too long !!!

    It is a shame that this was the 2nd to last day of operation for this 750 mm gauge railway. I love these rides that seem to go through the middle of small towns and for a brief period of time, it did. Thanks for showing this amazing ride.

    • @alanmusicman3385
      @alanmusicman3385 Год назад +1

      Yeah, I was wondering about that. Why is that hump from 02:00 to about 02:32 there at all - seems to be no reason! Maybe that's just cos we cant see all that is going on below - but the hump does look pretty pointless!

    • @officialmcdeath
      @officialmcdeath Год назад +2

      @@alanmusicman3385 That bridge used to be in a sloped cutting - it's quite likely that the WB route was implemented on the cheap, long after the standard gauge route - so the simplest option would have been to thread it through the outer arch of the overbridge, halfway up the slope, rather than dig out the slope and re-engineer the bridge \m/

    A pleasant journey with a breeze on a narrow-gauge railway. An interesting point is the entrance to the "closed" arrow (4:00, 6:47, etc.). Apparently, the wheel itself moves the rails to the left.

    Un beau souvenir d’une ligne à l’écartement de 75cm
    Lors d’un reportage après la remise à neuf de cette ligne il serait bon d’avoir un parallèle entre l’ancienne et la nouvelle voie.
    Il faut être en Suisse pour faire de tels travaux. Dans beaucoup d’endroits des bus auraient pris la relève
    Merci

    Amazing video, the landscapes are beautiful! I got tired of counting how many people took pictures of the train, I didn't understand why so many people, I was too curious to know. It looked like the train was a Hollywood celebrity. What day was the video taken? There were not many people, just walking on the sidewalks, I also noticed that there were many construction sites. All incredible and it generated a lot of curiosity in me. Hopefully soon I will be able to visit this place! I loved the video!
