I felt the same until I tried the evo a few days ago. The thunping blade action starts up way quicker and with less force. It fishes quite different in difficulty weedy situations
Great video. I normally run the jackhammer and thundercricket. I find that the thundercricket runs smoother than the jackhammer on the retrieval. The jackhammer is outstanding when it comes to the colorway.
Really good advice. I subscribed immediately, but, I can’t help notice that we have preferences about how the lures look. But what is more important is the preference lies with the fish.
Really enjoyed this video and definitely loved the underwater action footage and provided analysis. This is the type of video content I wish was more available for several different baits and/or techniques because it helps you see the action of the different models or competitor’s model allowing me to take notes on a lot of different aspects. Was not aware of all the subtle differences between each model Chatterbait. Now I may start buying more of the Project Z’s than the Jackhammers. Keep up the great video content!
Thanks. You might enjoy checking out my other videos in my How Lures Work Underwater playlist ruclips.net/p/PLcXAWxBLRzoJOC73i8r56wb8cKhgSJO8f There are videos on crankbaits, inline spinners, spinnerbaits, snaps/snap swivels, and more.
New sub., thanks for making this video. I know it was a lot of work. I bought an og chatter yrs ago and didn't even get bites on it. It got stuck in a tree and I left it there😡. 3 yrs ago I purchased 6 new chatters on special and dedicated several trips to learning how to use them. My collection has grown to 15 since our local lake was drained down last yr. I found 1 that I had lost and many more that got snagged in between the rocks to their watery tombs. Still use some times but find spring-summer with a little green vegetation works best.
Awesome video , after watching the underwater footage, I didn’t see a really drastic difference , to me, the original looked the best, but I didn’t like the hook being high, the elite was great, but the skirt didn’t move like the original, so I’m torn , but I don’t think I’ll be buying the expensive ones now because the cheap ones looked great. Thanks for the video.
Fantastic video! Im looking for some chatterbait instruction recently, and this is absolutely what im looking for! Also your knot videos are really helpful! Keep going bro! Only few things i'd like to know, does chatterbait work on walleye or other species? I assume 3.3 inch is the best size for the trailer on Z-man Elite? and I feel pearl or white color works very well, what do you think of color?
I've only caught largemouth and pike on chatterbaits, but I think a walleye would strike it at least once in a while. I primarily use crankbaits and jigs + plastic minnows when I'm targeting walleye. I would agree that a 3.3" trailer is a good size for the Elite. I don't like trailers over 4.5" all that much - too many missed strikes. I use gray, green pumpkin, black/blue, and red trailers more than anything, but I've seen lots of fish caught on white too.
Yes they do! I have used them up on the Maumee river during the walleye run in springtime, they worked great. The chatter bait gave em something the walleye could find in turbulence.👍
I don't have a strong opinion between those but the clear plastic blades less noise and are usually smaller, so it's a bit more subtle. But if you're looking to be subtle, a chatterbait isn't the best choice.
Peacock bass will take a chatterbait, but I think they are usually targeted with shallow diving crankbaits and swimbaits. We don't have any peacocks around here.
I pretty much always use a trailer on chatterbaits, but they will work without a trailer too. As the video shows, some chatterbaits like the Jackhammer are pretty crazy and erratic without a trailer. That can be calmed down a bit by adding a trailer, and the trailer creates a more realistic fish-like appearance.
I didn't test any Picassos. This video was mostly aimed at understanding the differences between the crazy number of different Z-man chatterbaits. I threw the Thunder Cricket bladed jig in there for comparison, but still focused on the Z-man baits. Every time I look at Z-man's chatterbait lineup, it gets bigger and more confusing.
The z-man big blade chatterbait hunting action will put all of these baits to shame. I call it The Real Jackhammer. The people who fish it already know what I mean by that.
I could use a big leadhead jig, cut out a piece of metal with tin snips , bend it accordingly, use a dollar store raw hide dog chew ,softend with pan hot water, cut a trailer, and not spend that kind of money.
I get frustrated when they are dozens of options all claiming to be the best (or have companies paying someone to say it is the best). Scientific testing is a way for me to cut through the BS and share it with others.
This is awesome content. Lot of hard work filming the baits in action, and I'm sure it took a great deal of time on the editing side too. Amazing job.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it!
The original ZMan is all you need. It's a proven fish catcher and affordable.
I agree that it's a good balance between price and quality.

I agree 100%!
I have watched a few of your videos, I find them very informative, and greatly appreciate your no nonsense approach. Great job !
Thanks - I appreciate the nice comment and I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the videos!
Fantastic! I'm headed to restock my bass lures this week and this video was much appreciated!
Awesome - glad to hear it was helpful!

Thanks. Both of those are great.
excellent video.. thanks Professor

@@FishingwithNat ..went swimming at the lake today after watching the video and found a lost Berkley Slobberknocker ...
@@normdurkin6425 Nice find - that's a pricey lure.
I like the blue one
Me too. It's beautiful isn't it?
Very good content here, I just started using chatterbaits. Thank you.
Thanks for the comment. There are so many chatterbait options out there, so hopefully this was helpful to guide you on which ones to try.
I've caught my biggest bass using the Original. Haven't tried the others yet but I'll likely give the Stealth a shot at some point.
The stealthblade is an attractive lure and well-built.
Really good advice. I subscribed immediately, but, I can’t help notice that we have preferences about how the lures look. But what is more important is the preference lies with the fish.
Absolutely. If only we could ask the fish what their preference is.
Nice breakdown. Thanks
Thanks for the comment
The Zman Stealth Blade is excellent for super tough conditions when bass are sensitive to flashing things
It's a neat bait.
Awesome video! Hard to tell if I really prefer the elite, or if that color combo is just a stunner!
I really love that color combo on the Elite. I could watch it dance around in slow motion forever.
Underwater footage from guys like you & John Costello @My Lure Box have UPPED my game heeeaps. Knowledge has LVL UP.🤙🏽
Fluro
Thanks
Just a tip, the best trailer for a chatterbait to keep its action is a spunk shad trailer
Thanks for the tip!

mais qu'importe, vos images sont magnifiques et très parlantes !
Merci! 🙂
Great video man!
Thanks!
The elite is my favotite. Great video.
Great bang for the buck in my opinion.
What chatterbait would you recommend for a medium-light rod and spinner reel? I’m thinking of the original or mini max, but what do you think?
I think either of those would be ok but the mini would be better with a medium-light.
Great video thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!

@@FishingwithNat thanks soo much
Can we use chatterbait without trailer for snakehead fishing?
Absolutely. Snakeheads are usually high in the water column so topwater baits or other baits fished close to the surface are all effective for them.
@@FishingwithNat Thank you very much sir. Love from India

I haven't tried the big blade version yet.
Can confirm. Big blade is the secret sauce.
Long curly tale trailer on the chatterbait
Is that your go-to trailer for chatterbaits? I haven't tried a curly-tail grub on a chatterbait before.
@@FishingwithNat yes makes a smashing pike bait.

What’s your favorite
The Z-man Chatterbait Elite is my favorite bang for the buck. The Jackhammer is nice but I have a hard time justifying the cost.

The project z catches big fish. Really big fish.

@FishingwithNat I've caught multiple bass over 4lbs and nothing under that. Paired with a 10,000 fish yotoworm, it's deadly.
