"Craft epic stories"
Random peasant : *"Could you bring me 10 pieces of boar meat for my stew? I'll give you worn pants."*
Believe it or not the community is so stupid that in legion that’s all they complained about . ‘’WE MISS THE SIMPLER DAYS WHEN WE WERENT SOME ‘’HERO’’ AND HAD MORE SIMPLE ROLES WITH MORE IMPORTANT CHARACTERS THAT WE HELPED “ and killing boars specifically was used by asmongold as an example what he nostalgically liked/preferred to the current situation. Ironically now people laugh at that since we got classic. I just hate this stupid community that cries about everything left and right.
@@tekamer6566 You mean its almost as if when you have a huge number of people, some of them might like or dislike different aspects of something for different reasons?

@@ninaloveray you know what, WOD is better than BFA. sure, WOD's biggest problem was lack of content, but all the systems in BFA legit did so much damage to the game. Plus, they shoehorned n'zoth in the expansion when he should have had his own

Talking about Arthas:
"Probably the greatest most notorious villain ever introduced in Warcraft"
Thats all i have to say.
I started playing this game in 2008. I've taken breaks for months or even years at a time at some points (adulting) but i always find myself coming back to it. Sometimes i'll start playing again just to level a character and take myself back to 2008 to feel like a kid again.
We didn’t know we needed this information until it was given to us...
"World of Warcraft is about playing a game with your friends.". Only if they have their AoTC and a 940+ilvl
Mr if they ask you for specific milestones, then they are not your friends.
Im putting an emphasis on how Pugging has taken over small servers or friendly groups. Milestones are all the game is about anymore.

so are you playing wow classic yet to relive those "missions"? (quests :P)
That's a lot of history for a game
LotR is a lot of history for a book, GoT is a lot of history for a show.
Fantasy typically gets a lot of lore
This is not even the top of the iceberg.. Iv'e been playing for 14 years and don't know everything yet. There is a industry around the game with books and comics and every imaginable thing.
well, they've been adding to this history since 1994 when the RTS first came out. That's a lot of storytelling.
This is just a slim description of the basic game. Not even close to the whole history lol.
They barely went over the 1000's of hours of lore
I hope this game will stick around forever! I will be playing this game for many decades to come! No matter what i do or try i always find myself coming back to WoW! There is no other game like it!
Same here. Proud WoW player since 2006. I'll still support and play it as long as they make more updates and expansions
still playing?
I started again
For me, personally, Wrath of the Lich King was the height of my experience and love for WoW. I loved it, because as a punk kid who played Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness when I was 12 years old, and been playing Warcraft games since, it felt like it brought a closing to part of my experience after killing Arthas, one of my favorite hero's in the Warcraft universe. Plus, it brought us to Northrend, and fought against so many cool undead enemies, and the DK was so much fun on release.
However, after watching this, and hearing some of the details that go into each expansion, I have a newfound respect for each expansion, whether I liked them or not, for the effort Blizz put into each one.
For this long time Warcraft player, since 1995, I'm pretty excited for Battle for Azeroth, the first expansion I've been excited for in a few years. The intro cinematic did its job on hyping me up, especially with the last shot of the Orc and Footman squaring up, with very similar poses to Warcraft 3 I believe.
Anyways, i have way too much nostalgia and memories to list since Vanilla, and it was pretty cool to see and hear the way WoW evolved chronologically.
How was BfA experience? Was it as exciting as your initial trailer reaction?
I love these documentary vids on Warcraft. Love hearing classic stories, brings back fond memories.
I love hearing Ion talk about World of Warcraft, however he still can't sell me on Warlords of Draenor.
imo, you might not agree with his points, but when he explains why they did what, you can clearly see his point of view. He still clears mythic raids so he still knows the ins and outs of the game itself. EDIT: Was talking about everything they did in legion haha they've already admitted in past interviews they just gave up on wod
If you dint played wod better you dint cause whole expansion was a mess "6.2 major feature selfie cam"
I understand why they did what they did in Warlords of Draenor. There's just so much that I knew I wouldn't like even before the expansion hit. He can't sell it to me now, not during the expansion or before the expansion.
there is a full list of features what wod suppose to have which is sad :(
I was wondering if Ion still played with his guild these days.
im kinda sad that i missed the beginning of WoW it seems that its almost impossible to put into words the magic that vanilla and the early years captured.
Honestly you did not miss as much as many try to claim, vanilla wow was seen as amazing during its time due to this vast world of mystery that you were free to explore. The majority of classic was trash and so were the players, many did not even do any end game content with pvp being the biggest thing at the time. Majority of players that want vanilla want it back for the player interaction that once existed (not that its gone but just shifted the areas it's in).
totally incorrect. You did miss a LOT. This game was launched in 2004 back then there was simply no game like it. There were other MMOs but nothing could touch the raw player count and open world that no one knew. It would not be the same to play it again now that tech is so much better and class balance was very bad in the old days but if you played it back then, it was incredible. Vanilla isnt the best game ever and it was fully of issues, but for its time it was a marvel of technology that literally shook the world and our culture. I would avoid down playing how amazing it was to log in back in 04-05 and play with friends and your family guilds in a huge world no other game could give you.
You’re correct... Vanilla WoW... was insane. And magical is the only word I can think of. I was so in love with it and exploring as much as i could. Entering new zones for the first time, hearing the music, and the world, it was amazing. People knew other people even across factions, you would develop nemeses and rivalries. 40 people having to meet at a flight point and traveling together to black rock mountain, and the guild fights the would occur.... amazing. Downing onyxia or Ragnaros for the first time.. so good.
Meeesj Classic WOW was an epic experience. Something I doubt any other game will do or at least a very long time until something like it comes again
It was basically like a constant high when I played classic. I still remember the long walk in the snow to the gates of Ironforge, walking in and feeling like I was in a real living, breathing world. The music was perfect in all zones, everything just felt magical. I had never experienced any game like it before and probably won't ever again because I'm in my 30's now and don't game anymore. I still log on WoW every now and then but not much.
Almost teared upduring this. Literally grew up with WoW and still play it during the summers/autumn around expansion releases. I truly hope this universe does not die.

I just started playing again since wotlk i did a trial and my character made it to level 16 in a single day. Now I’m playing classic TBC and it’s crazy to see how different the leveling curve is.
Haha yeah I see why some people feel that way. I would say most people just crave getting to max level where I personally believe the real game starts. When you reach max level there is a lot of grind, and reducing the time it takes to reach max level might reduce fatigue where you feel like if leveling took too long then it would be disheartening to start grinding just like you did when you were leveling. I hope that made some sense
@@andersratama2574 I think all the add-ons people use killed the game, unless u keep up with them all, ypu are at a disadvantage

Kyler Tilleli huh?? I’m really honestly confused now at what you’re trying to say. How is a ret pally the same power as a tank? Are you speaking about dps? Talents? Spells and abilities? You really have no idea what you’re doing with that game do you.
Great job putting this together - thanks Blizz!
I miss the days of mountain climbing into Hyjal, getting yelled at by a mod, and getting soft banned for 5 days
haha I climbed into Hyjal before cata launch too, was so cool.
That’s BS you can be banned for doing something creative that’s within your power to do in the game.
i remember playing WoW back in 2005 as a 15 year old with a 10 day trial and expecting to hate it. I was totally wrong i fell in love within 3 days of playing the game. i stopped in 2011 after Cata but came back for BFA. very few people know the feeling of clearing naxx on vanilla or being in the ventrilo when your guild downed illidan for the first time.
player52 I stopped after cata as well, and just got back three weeks ago for bfa. Never thought I'd be playing wow again. I'm actually really enjoying it. They streamlined a lot, which personally I'm thankful for bec I don't have the hours to sink in like I used to.
That makes three of us, absent since april 2011.. i thought i was out.. but they pulled me back in!
I quit the game on the last day of Cataclysm. I started the game back in 2.1 in burning crusade in 2008. Got serious about the game in Wrath of the Lich King as a hardcore raider. Was with in the top 10 warrior tanks on my server and within the top 30 warrior DPS on the same server during the end of wrath. Then I completely burned out in Cata. Pushed 2 toons to 85 in less than a week or 2. My warrior main made it to 85 in less than 3 days after launch. Came back to see the end of Cata and do some raiding.
Fun game and great time with the folks I played it with. Most those folks don't play it anymore. For me the game turned into a loot grind that felt more like an unpaid job than a game at the end of the day.
Not everything is perfect in WoW, but they are always learning and trying to make a even better game. I love World of Warcraft and I want to say thank you to the blizzard team that makes it possible and I hope that this game continue to expand for years to come.

Im still amazed that egghead Hazzikostas wasnt fired after the WOD debacle. Lmao they must want WOW to die.
So many internet warriors bashing on this game. There were many changes yes but you gotta adapt to survive which is what WoW is doing. I for one have enjoyed every expansion in different ways, some more than others.
Justin Torres settling for watered down classes and mechanics is not surviving.
@Justin Torres Being an edgelord is so trendy, you'll always find people like this.
Only thing that could kill WoW was WoW itself. It's been downhill since the end of WotLK. This is what the general part of WoW players think. I felt amazing going back to Classic WoW on Nostalrius' private server. So we can only see if Blizzard manages to resurrect WoW with future Classic servers. I'd be happy to come back then.
I still enjoy it but agree that classes have been watered down. Those that claim it died years ago confuse me though. Either A. they are still subbed or B. did all of BFA in a week and then QQ'd about being bored and unsubbed until the next expansion launches. In the end for me, no MMO is perfect. I like ESO, but its not WoW. I like GW2, but its not ESO, and its not WoW. In the end, WoW still pulls me back in like no other MMO does. Last of all, $15/month is not a reason to hate the game or to label it as evil or greedy. Sure, free is always the best price! Yet I would bet a lot more than $15 that those complaining about a subscription spend more than $15/week on fast food and energy drinks. This isn't judging. I love my carbonated beverages and drive-thru burgers just as much as the next guy or girl. Yet I realize that just as that food isn't free, neither is using someone's server on a daily basis.
Nope. Thew expansions suck and have turned the game into a lame game with a bunch of mini-games and its built around convenience and participation trophies. Wow Classic is where its at!
I actually recently started playing WoW and I'm addicted just because it has so much to offer and has a rich history. Big thumbs up!

I love Legion. Probably has been the best expansion I've played since Wrath, but I was also a Wrath baby so I might be biased.
This is also the first expansion I can recall thinking of fondly while it was/is still active, the first one that I'm actually cramming/rushing to get stuff done before the next expansion and the first one that I'm actually sad to see go.
Seems like they learned a lot about what not to do in WoD. Let's hope they remember all the good things that they pulled in Legion and keep it up. I'm excited for BFA!
I did enjoy WoD just for the lore aspect and the world. Sure the game play was clunky and slow at times, but it was still enjoyable. I LOVE Legion and I'm very sad to see it go. I'm in the BFA beta though, and I think you'll enjoy it almost as much as Legion. :)
Legion is the first expansion since BC in which i played a month and stopped. For me BFA already seems better at least at questing and environment.
Agree! Didnt like WoD but LOVE Legion. Partly because I like the horror elements. But also because what I hated in WoD was that I felt isolated, no major cities to go too and all alone in my garrison.
Does anyone know if its a mod being used @18:02 ? Never seen a bosses bar placed that way before.
Does anyone know what mod or how they get the camera set off to the side in a lot of their more cinematic gameplay shots in this?
wow!
Artifact weapons: ".... with unique backstories, unique art...."
Well some classes got unique art lol. Hunters, shadow priest, rogues and some others got a lil screwed in that aspect ha
I like (/s) that they neglected to talk about the design choices in WoD and focused on the art and lore. I know they mentioned the garrisons, but they just explained what they do. I would like to hear their thoughts on how the expansion went and what lessons they learned.
I'm a day one player =) I was 8 at the time so I have the benefit of being young to keep playing for years more
The title is misleading - I thought this would be about the world history of WoW, not the developmental history of WoW...
Still interesting either way. You can simply find the history of WoW by playing through it but here they speak about all the challenges they faced and how they managed to make WoW what it is today.
This is on the Wired channel.
Why would they post Warcraft Lore?
That would be the history of warcraft, not the history of the world of warcraft
Taylor Holder I don't follow Wired much, I thought it was like Vanity Fair, which does recaps on seasons of shows, so I thought this would be a recap of all expansions with the new one coming out.
dude, look at the video length. you should have figured it out.
I agree wholeheartedly about Mists. Those of us that played it, loved it. The raids were great, the lore wasn't forced.
Lacey Long yeah, the kung fu panda lore wasn't forced.
Ok.
Joshua Macal Just cus you didnt play WC3 it was forced?
Ok
To be fair the game shouldn't require you to play WC3 to avoid it being forced
I played it and hated it. I was so bored of that leveling and those dungeons that i stopped when i got to 90 and just made alts to play in the old world.
Mists was boring. So was Cata and WoD. I played all those expansions each for a month. Gearing up was made way too easy in those. And end-game raids were done in two weeks after the release.
I didn't truly enjoy any of them. Classic, BC and WotLK were all nice and enjoyable for me. I could play them everyday for 3-4 hours and keep on playing for months and still they were fun.
Truly great game. I am so glad I was spending time with it, never regret a second.
I've never played WoW so I really needed an episode like this since my friend convinced me to pre-purchase the xpansion.
Anyone else notice that a lot of the gameplay shots used the Dynamic Cam addon?
They added it to the game without the use of add-on. And it's very good for more cinematic scenes which they needed for an official video
Dylan Anhorn where?
You can only access it with console commands.
It's not an addon. It's available in the game but only accessible with console. However, there's an addon called Advanced Interface Options that makes a lot of hidden options show up on the option menu including this one. Even more through a searchable list of variables.
Kevin French it’s not an add on.
The best expansions were BC and Wrath. Back when the game still had a sense of community! Blizzard traded community for convenience and the game has suffered ever since.
Actually in BC I was struggling in the game everyday. Even at the end of the expansion, I was still in greens and blues, because those communities you speak of were so tight knit it was almost impossible to get a foot in. Safe to say I was very frustrated and discontent that I wasn't able move up in the game to see all the awesome content.
But you know what? I would have all of it back. I would take away most of the quality of life implements to just have the old WoW back, where wearing epics, and riding a super rare mounts actually meant something.
So true, it was all about meeting new friends and getting online and gearing up together each night. So much fun! I left after WOTLK ended and barely gone back since because it's so strange now.
Archmagus Logan well said and so true. I no longer play after over 10 years due the lack of community, QQing and nerfed PvP👎🏻😢
To me, the convenience features added to the game added a lot of "facebook friends" more than people I would regularly play with and enjoy interacting with. My friends list grew, but the memorable moments decreased. With things like dungeon finder, I was first introduced to the completely communicationless dungeon run. It doens't feel very different than solo play with RNG and a queue time.
Hey, fun fact, if you want to only play with real friends you can. You don't have to use the new systems! You want to run to each dungeon instead of using dungeon finder, go ahead! Stop bitching that Blizzard made the game fun for people that didn't have the time or care to spend hundreds of hours trying to experience the story.
WoW has nothing but improved to me. I can now do raids that I could never do. I can now do dungeons I would have spent hours trying to organise in minutes.
If you want community it is up to you, the community. Blizzard doesn't make you use the new systems. They are there for the people who don't want to waste time.
BC and WotLK days of progression raiding, were my favorite by far.
Most of my high level exploration of old areas was for the transmog.
