Rune Factory 4 originally released for 3DS back in 2012, and now 8 years later we see a remaster on the Nintendo Switch, so how does the game hold up to today?

The event rng was definitely my main gripe with the 3DS version. I remember it taking nearly an ingame year to trigger Dylas's proposal event.
This is one of my favorite games that was on the 3ds and definitely my favorite game in the Rune Factory series.
Part of me wishes that they would let the player woo the same gender this time, but I also knew that was a very unlikely change
I know it's not much consolation, but at least there was the option to change your character's appearance to the opposite gender and have their portrait change as well. So it was kind of like wooing the same gender, but not really.
@@Tehmora I am aware of that feature and I though it was really neat, but I'm pretty sure you had to complete a large chunk of the game's story on at least one file before it unlocked.
Yeah you did, unfortunately. =/ I hope in RF5 they get rid of those barriers.

You forgot to mention that the Another Episode DLC will be free until 26th of March and then it will be for sell after that
wait, do you have to get to some later parts of the game to "buy" them, or you can get them right away? i pre-ordered for the game, but don't feel like rushing in one month just to get the DLC free.

Historia Chronicler it’s in a separated menu called “another episode”. Just look up the game in the eshop and download the dlc. That way you dont need to pay money cause there is a free promotion.
After that you can play that episode anytime after you beat the game. Think of it as a bonus extra.

The item stacking is accualy from RF3, not 4
And honestly, RF3 in a nutshell was just Beta RF4
Bonus: Also, unlike previous RF game, the crafting, cooking, and potion making are the BEST and most complicated in the series, like how you can override a basic shortsword with a endgame shortsword to make that shortsword have the base stat of the endgame sword and you can add aditional materials when crafting and depend on how rare and high level the materials are it will give bonuses to that weapon/accesory, and some items even give unique effect when you use it for upgrades like how Object X turn the next upgrade from + to - and - to + (really good for armor)

Also you forgot to say that RF4 also has the most foreshadowing of the older games, from bosses, places, easter eggs, and even characters soo you dont have to play the older game to know what they are talking about

I am at end game. played 3ds version. Do you know what 4 leaf clover / giant version /rare can actually do? I have been research it both in game and online but can't seem to find an answer. Does it affect drop rate or only level on drops? Does it work on equipment or only weapons? Does ten-fold works? You seemed knowledgeable i am desperate that why i am asking.
I poured tens of hours into cooking alone.... this game is so good 😭😭

Same! And everytime I want to go back to it I dont have the patience to keep playing until I trigger it or keep reloading until I trigger it

@@Vanslipper It's RNG, though I'd still recommend the game. The event needs certain characters involved, and it's possible they will be apart of an unrelated town event, stuck there until you finish it. I've tried the reset methods to manipulate the RNG to no avail either.
I agree with @Youmu Eulogy. The RNG doesn't drag down the game until the 3rd arc. Which is after the main story. At that point you've technically beaten the game. Its rough if you want to speed run the last arc but if you're a completionist like me there's a ton of other things to get done in between (like marriage, growing crops, level up your monsters, etc.). It just sucks that you don't have exact control over when the arc is triggered. Some days I want to continue with the 3rd arc, some days I just want to farm and talk to the townspeople. Its still my fav 3ds game so I recommend you get it :). Hopes this helps!

Rune factory 4 is just amazing, It is my second favorite game ever!
I haven't touched the Rune Factory series but have seen all your videos on it, including Bokumonocast stuff. I've been feeling that harvest moon itch lately and with no date for the friends of mineral town remake, I'm gonna take you up on this game. I recognize this may be pretty different but thanks all the same for bringing this series to my attention.

They finally realized the monetary potential after Stardew Valley filled the starving niche.
I've watched a couple of other review videos for this game because I don't have a big budget and I wanted to be sure I'd fall in love with it and this video clinches it for me. Thank you. Your obvious enthusiasm for the game and how much playability you said you've gotten out of it have totally sold me on it!
The wait is killing me!!! My Archived edition is coming today :) My new life begins anew in the switch version. I really hope for a Rune Factory 3 remake on switch!! UPDATE!! GOT IT AND IT'S BEAUTIFUL ❤❤❤
Thank you so much! I've watched at least 5 different videos about this game, but yours is the first to go into any level of detail on the creating! Everyone else did it so quickly that I didn't realise it had any depth to it. Almost definitely going to pick this up now!

There are also some area’s in the game where the song changed. So far I’ve only found Autumn Road tune to have changed. I do like that they changed something like the area specific music, it was definitely a surprise when I got there and made me look up the DS tune.
Special is finally out? Gosh, how the day's went by, but at least now I can't wait to experience it all over again until the arrival of 5 and Fomt!
I'm really excited for this game! I've only played and finished 1 and Frontier, and I've played a little Tides of Destiny. I actually own Rune Factory 2 and always think about jumping in, but I really am looking forward to this release on Switch!

Great review man, I appreciate the time you've put into it and a really thoughtful and succinct overview of the game's features and those tasty bits that are really tempting me to pick it up... almost through 1st year in Stardew Valley -- that farming sim itch still going strong :)
WHAT?!?!?!?!?! People were saying the random events for dating/marrying someone were removed. But in your review you're saying they're back?!
The events are not on a schedule is what im saying, at least not one that I have seen.
I don't know if you have found it out already or not, but from my experience once you have done all the events and met the requirements for marriage the marriage event will happen and you can't accidentally miss it.
For me I go for Leon and Dylas and had been dating both of them, I finally got Dylas smile event and shortly after that his marriage event. I went back to a save after the smile event and Dylas's marriage event would just keep coming up, even when I skipped the event day, next day marriage event, sleep for a month straight and Dylas's marriage event would still happen. I assume this would still be the same for the bachorlorettes as well.
So part of the rng is gone.

I was hoping to get a physical copy at either GameStop or Walmart but found no luck. I had to buy an eshop gift card and the download time is 20 hours because my internet is big sucky. I can’t wait to re experience this all over again :D

1/2 have not aged horrendously as you say.. i recently started playing 1 again. its as good as i remember.
So is there any discepancies in gameplay (graphics, frame rates, lag, story itself, etc.) between the versions of this being on different consoles?
With this new update what did the fix and or improve on this game from the last? By any chancewhat you know any great tips in our tricks to do at the beginning of the game to watch out for and not to do and stuff like that? Or to worry about and what's best NPCs are best to befriend to take out on travels?...

Question: I am not interested in farming, crafting, cooking and marriage, but I find the art style of this game quite attractive (many modern RPGs seem to try to look realistic these days, whereas I am more of an old-school game fan who loves manga and anime). What I am searching for now, and therefore finding my way here, is cute sandbox adventuring which is not following a linear story, but where I can run around freely exploring and creating my own story. Is this a game for me under those premises?
Does anyone know the exact effect of 4-Leaf Clover / Rare can?
1. Does upgrading a Rare Can into your Equipment have the same effect as upgrading 4-Leaf Clover?
2. Does it only works when you upgrade it into weapons? Or Does it also works when you upgrade it into other Equipments Armor / Rings (Mainly HAPPY Ring) etc?
3. How about if all your equips have both Rare Can and 4-Leaf Clover upgraded into them Does they stack?
4. Does Rare Can/4-Leaf Clover work with 10-fold Steel?
5. Does Happy Ring/Luck Blade have the same effect? Does It stack?

Baba 95 same here. Vic’s voice was the best for Vishnal. I’m glad Mike did a great job at keeping the spirit of Vishnal’s character in his performance.

I want that feature where you can steal your waifu or husbu during the weddings. Rune factory 2 is one of my favorite rune factory games.

RF4 is one of my GOAT games, so much so that I've burned myself out on it playing DS. Is the Switch version worth it? That's why I'm here. Seen it on sale a lot lately. Gonna be on sale even more leading up to the RF5 release. Do I buy?!

Hell mode makes hard mode look like child play... The mobs have soo much hp, it makes the game actually challenging

spent 500+ hrs in 3DS to max out most stats, level up all crops, lands, all recipe and all hidden secrets. now, can you tell me about the NEW added feature here? can you marry Ventus human form here??

I love this game, but is it all that different from the original? Not sure I want to spend the money for the same exact game I still have for the 3ds. Minus the new DLC, is this worth it? Can anyone chime in who's played the original?
PSC not really tbh. You have to buy the extra dlc...content which is just a bit of extra dialogue. It looks much nicer but unless you plan to do lots of grinding for the end game content rng it’s not rly worth it

Is 5 coming out on pc? I honestly only played the first one but story of season or back in the day harvestmoon was a system seller for me. I hope I don't have to buy a switch for it lol.

XSEED is known for their PC ports of Marvelous' games, so I fully expect 5 to get a PC port down the line, but you would be waiting a bit.

Using a battle axe to get wood
And the axe u get for cutting wood?
Same with the hammer
The weapon versions are slower due to having attack animations (a side swing which is slow and also doesn't cut wood/mine rock). They can cut things in a pinch, though.

Everyone seems to love Special, and I’m just here not enjoying it... :(
Maybe it’s because I’m playing in handheld mode, but the rigs/models are just as janky and even pixel-y at times.
And I just need to get good at the controls...
RF4 was my first/only RF game, and I highly enjoy it (even though I didn’t even realize there was a third arc...) I just... had higher expectations for the remaster... :(
after watching this.. I tell my self, this is my 3rd review watching, when i played it on 3ds i quit pretty soon all tho i liked it, it just got bored.. Its gonna be even slower and die faster if i get it again.. i should skip this BUT im bored till AC so why not try it? lol maybe i will like it more on a tv then on a 3ds? and i can sell it back for almost the same price i got it. lol

So, they didn't fix the RNG dependent cut scenes? I had hoped with the Newlywed mode, they would have made it easier to get married. Thanks for the info, but I'm going to pass on the Switch version.
I alredy have the 3ds ver, why should i buy this ver? Doesnt seem to have that much of new content. Ah nevermind....No man I am not Paying 60$ for a game I ALREDY OWN, i mean yeah i did with P5Royal because i saw the changes to the main experience are noticeable EARLY ON In the game. New difficulty mode? No thanks RF4 is a wonderful game but the combat system is chaotic and Frustrating specially when monster wombo combo you or stunlock you to death.
From what I can tell the only thing different is the dlc from the original game, so not worth it if you have the base game.

ManMadeAwesome I say it’s completely worth it. Arc 3 will actually trigger now without RNG(at least that’s what I heard from everyone I asked). I wasn’t able to trigger it in my original year 8 save.

After harvest moon started to suck, this was the farming sim to go to.
Oh yeah the Rune Factory franchise is basically harvest moon, but with a back story and monster fights. It's more fun honestly
This game have to change it's name from "A Fantasy Harvest Moon" to "A Fantasy Story of Seasons"
They also changed Vishnal's VA so it's no longer Vic McNugget.
Which makes it extra happy and special to me.

Kinda dissapointed that you can't romance the same sex.. had to make a separate profile to play as a guy to be able to date bachelorettes.
Great game but way too blurry and crunchy looking. Also, you're overusing the word "honestly". We presume you're being honest until you give us reason to think otherwise.
