The games are actually part of the Harvest Moon series but I found it definitely a lot more enjoyable to play Rune Factory games as they are as you said it much like playing a mana game. I played tides of Fate originally .Was really fun. It was on PS Now. honestly looking more forward to trying a new Rune Factory game and awaiting Rune Factory 5.
Here's a quick story: One night, when I was younger entering my teen years, I stayed up late and turned on my 3DS. My mom was gonna take me to her workplace the next day but I couldn't sleep. I was ready to play a game, but then thought to myself: "Am I really gonna play this all night?" Then I saw the Nintendo E Shop and figured this was the perfect time to go in for the first time. So while I scrolled through the games (completely in love with the E Shop music, mind you), I saw a game titled Rune Factory 4. At first, it didn't look very appealing. But then I remembered that my grandparents always told me to try something before deciding what to think about it. So I clicked, and read the description. I instantly fell in love with this game, and I bought it the next day. I played and replayed multiple times, even after I beat it. I fell in love with the lore and the characters. I eventually played RF3 and Frontier, although I never beat the latter. When the RF4 port was announced, I was happier than a kid on Christmas, and I actually screamed at the reveal for RF5. Rune Factory 4 is still in my heart as one of my favorite games of all time, and I plan on getting the port as well as Rune Factory 5. I can't wait to fall in love with this game all over again.
Agree, and I see you play Dragalia Lost as well based on your profile picture. Both main characters of RF4 and DL share the same voice actor in japanese dub 😁 (Kouki Uchiyama)
are the graphics as bad as in this video or is that just the video capture? the characters and env look very blurry like its 480p. even the text is blurry in this video?
I had known that the game shouldn’t have been missed when it was originally released, but because 2013 was one of the roughest years of my life, I missed out. I ordered the Archived Edition and it’s coming as I write this.
You won't regret it! This game provided hundreds of hours of entertainment for me. Even after completing everything, it's still nice to pick it up once in a while to see all of your crops / animals / partner again.

i love rune factory 4 so much!! played it like all last year and was so excited to find out the game series had come back from the dead! im seeing quite a bit of a disapproval of the graphics; the graphics arent amazing. i wish they updated the character portraits instead of just cleaning up the previous one, along with the models, so i understand the dislike of graphics. however, i truly believe this game is worth the money, with its extensive amount of activities to do and fun little charms that make you happy to get immersed! kinda long but truly a great game!
I wish this had come out like 6 months ago with Animal Crossing being so close to release. Oh well, I’ll pick it up and play it for a few weeks and come back to it eventually
That is unfortunate, yes, especially since Animal Crossing is a vastly more popular franchise. I love Animal Crossing too; it was one of my favorite childhood games, but while New Horizons looks amazing I honestly think I'll wind up skipping it because I don't think I can keep up with it like I used to while juggling a full time job. I fell in love with Rune Factory 4 because it's a great game to wind down with after a long day of work, and unlike Animal Crossing, you aren't punished if you decide to take a break from it because you want to play something else or you just can't fit it into your day. The two games have quite a lot in common but that one difference really seals it for me.
Animal Crossing gets boring in 1-2 months for the vast majority of people. The way it drip-feeds content leaves you unable to play for more than like 15 minutes a day after a while, you literally run out of stuff to do. Unless you time travel, which not only ruins the point of the game, but is now also actively fought against since events are all delivered via game updates.

Yeah, it’s a great game that shows its age graphically although the gameplay holds up brilliantly. It is bad timing with Animal Crossing on the horizon though. Glen
Actually, its the same price as the 3ds version, 40 us, and there is added content and its still a 780p resolation version like it was a ps3 game that were all 60 us, just saying. The archival edition at 60 us comes with a 150 pages book and the ost in cd format. So really, i think its fair.
So excited for this game! My pre-order will be here in a couple days. First this, then Animal Crossing! I see many waisted weekends ahead playing my Switch. LOL!

First time hearing about Rune Factory and came across the 5th installation trailer and so I was wondering what are the differences? Really liked the trailer for 5th and was wondering if I should get this game in the meantime while waiting around for the 5th next year ...
Thing is, This game is basically the whole of Animal crossing but with more content, its weird how much AC gets more love and hype, its just the aesthetics i spose.
I played this on the 3ds but only got to the 4th dungeon. I kind of feel like I rushed though, I'm used to a more traditional RPG so I think I didn't stop and enjoyed some aspects enough. I still don't know if I should buy the switch version though.
Keeys Don’t worry about rushing. There are three arcs, and the first is the shortest. A lot of people replaying it rush through the first one just so they can unlock all the characters.
It’s reviews like this.. Sometimes a studio like GameStop and IGN just aren’t the way to go and this one seemed very unbiased. With it being on sale now, I’m seriously considering it now. Thanks. Watched it start to finish. It was too the point with nothing drawn out for filler content.
Rune factory 4 it's just a copy from RF12and3. The RF3 is already so perfect and memorable in everything. I was hoping back then before RF3 release they gonna bring something big update in everywhere but ig the system is not powerful enough to do so that's why they just copy it again and again. Now day next gen system so crazy powerful I hope the RF5 will so crazy epic amin for that 👏
Two Towns triggers me! /s LOL I put so many hours into that game not even to have access to the makers until so much later (I started in Konohana and you could only get makers once you bought the farm in Bluebell which took forever to get access). It took so long to get the tunnel dug in order to get to either town quicker. Not the best in the series but I was obsessed at the time. I remember digging huge spiral trenches and I loved being able to water the entire thing in one pour
@@ollietaro Ye the game has much to offer later on, but the "main" part of the game is already over by that point. Not to mention, you need to be lucky Eileen offers you the right contract at the beginning of each season to either extend your house/farm OR the tunnel. Also, you get the mine so goddam late, im year 2 sprind and dont have my house nor the tunnel done, my towns are connected, but i dont have the mine yet...
This is my fave 3ds game of all time🥺💕💕 and I can't wait to play it again for the 10th time uwu The only bad part is that the game wasn't subbed to spanish😔😭 but hearing Japanese voice is enough to buy it 😂
You don't need to play the first few games, it's perfectly fine as a stand-alone title. You might miss out on a few easter eggs and call-backs but there's no Kingdom Hearts-esque overarching storyline. Think of it like Zelda, or Elder Scrolls.
I don’t know I’m deciding between story of seasons or rune factory 4. I always pick harvest moon and I’m not really into combat or monsters. Just taking care of the farm and animals.
Cheers Glen, bit of a weird one this...probably give it a miss, just picked up Katana Kami. Any chance of a SwitchUp review? Would be brilliant! Nice one gents
Are there a lot of activities to do in the game? I get bored easily at farming game but RF4 seems to be different than Story of seasons in some way. I mean do we have a list of request or mission everyday? Thanks

Actually, its the same price as the 3ds version, 40 us, and there is added content and its still a 780p resolation version like it was a ps3 game that were all 60 us, just saying. The archival edition at 60 us comes with a 150 pages book and the ost in cd format. So really, i think its fair.
I am torn between buying it or not, dont want to throw money on something I already played but... I love rune factory
Did you buy it in the end? Or no? :o
Reminds me of Ever Oasis. I played that for a good month or so. 😅
This is much better. I really didn’t enjoy ever oasis.
So excited for this game! My pre-order will be here in a couple days. First this, then Animal Crossing! I see many waisted weekends ahead playing my Switch. LOL!
Helpful review, thank you! Can’t wait to get this game for my birthday soon :)
Just released on ps4 and this review was a help, thanks!
You're welcome!
Loved all the time factory series. Can't wait for 5
This looks quite cool. Not what I expected.
Yeah, a very good game. Glen
Mine got shipped on the 22nd.Loving it so far
I hope the factory in this title is OSHA compliant. Thanks for the review
I want to buy it but I also want to just hold off since Rune Factory 5 is being released soon. I'm torn lol
i'm disappointed with rune factory 5 :(
@@artesfamiliagamaoficial how come? genuine question since i’ve never played any and i was waiting for 5 to try it out 😬
@@sayaka910 game performance issues like fps drop
I pre-ordered this back in December cant wait for it to
Damn farm sims are 🔥...some of them.
I love Rune Factory 4 and all but Micah will forever be my favorite MC
i miss getting to turn into a sheep
tempted to pick it up cause i love the game on 3DS but over on switch, i kinda expect an improved look. the only thing that made it tempting is the collector's edition but with animal crossing coming up, i wouldn't want to get it.
but for those that have yet to try it, it is definitely a game worthy of getting
Yeah but animal crossing has zero combat. Which Is a shame. Because I can't justify getting it been male and 33.
@@robertdunhill2077 i think it all depends on individuals likes and dislikes, besides they are very different from one another.
@@robertdunhill2077 I'm 34, never played animal crossing before. After the direct I realized its totally not for me lol.. I EASILY got rune factory instead:) cheers!
@@robertdunhill2077 just do more super manly stuff to offset the childishness of animal crossing
(Or you can just play Doom: Eternal instead)
Was looking for a new game to pick up and came across this, and it looked kind of interesting, so this was the perfect video
Glad you enjoyed it. Glen
First time hearing about Rune Factory and came across the 5th installation trailer and so I was wondering what are the differences? Really liked the trailer for 5th and was wondering if I should get this game in the meantime while waiting around for the 5th next year ...
i have it pre purchased but its not available currently where i'm at
Thing is, This game is basically the whole of Animal crossing but with more content, its weird how much AC gets more love and hype, its just the aesthetics i spose.
Nice it's old school like SoM in combat gameplay and Stardew Valley/Harvest Moon in farming.
Well this is the game (HM and RF) where stardew valley took inspiration from
I played this on the 3ds but only got to the 4th dungeon.
Almost 4am EST and the digital version of the game still isn’t live :(
Ah, that’s really not good! Glen
I have to wait until 10am PST to pick mine up from best buy haha. You'll be playing before me friend! ;)
So, do y’all think I should go get this game or wait to get 5? I’ve never played any of these games before
Yesssss! I used to be like you but after I just try to play this game, I become addicted. You should try it!
Something to mention:animated character will only available in marriage mode(maybe not called marriage mode since playing chinese version)
Attempt to battle and tame beast runnin amok 5:12 poor wooly minding his own business lol. But thats dope wish rf 1 for the ds would get a remake to
It’s reviews like this..
Now day next gen system so crazy powerful I hope the RF5 will so crazy epic amin for that 👏
Oh Porcoline, my love, why i cant i marry you :(
Its the same as it was with Grady in HM: Tale of two towns!
Runefactory 2 is still the best for me
So I bought the archival edition without knowing anything about the game. 2nd review I watch of it now. Seems like I bought a good summer game.
That grind to 50k is kinda nuts
Omg, put it in your bag when you're gathering crops... Go to shipping box, press looking inside and spam Y on items you want to chuck in the box
You learn something new everyday
I loved RF4. RF5 is going to be amazing.
Rune factory tides of destiny is forever the best rune factory
Is that also rune factory music?
since i can't afford switch, seems like i wouldn't miss much by playing the original RF4
Waiting for a price drop then getting this.
I still play this with my 3ds xD
amazing stuff
This is my fave 3ds game of all time🥺💕💕 and I can't wait to play it again for the 10th time uwu
The only bad part is that the game wasn't subbed to spanish😔😭 but hearing Japanese voice is enough to buy it 😂
Do you need to play 1-3 before playing four, or is it like Harvest Moon/SOS where it doesn’t matter?
You don't need to play the first few games, it's perfectly fine as a stand-alone title. You might miss out on a few easter eggs and call-backs but there's no Kingdom Hearts-esque overarching storyline. Think of it like Zelda, or Elder Scrolls.
Thanks for the review
I don’t know I’m deciding between story of seasons or rune factory 4. I always pick harvest moon and I’m not really into combat or monsters. Just taking care of the farm and animals.
I prefer Story of Seasons: Mineral Town personally. Both good games though. Glen
I love combat so Rune Factory is perfect for me
Cheers Glen, bit of a weird one this...probably give it a miss, just picked up Katana Kami. Any chance of a SwitchUp review? Would be brilliant! Nice one gents
This game is absolutely amazing! It's not weird at all.
Are there a lot of activities to do in the game? I get bored easily at farming game but RF4 seems to be different than Story of seasons in some way. I mean do we have a list of request or mission everyday? Thanks
Nguyen Le yes! there’s hundreds of hours of content and activities!
Yes... Side quests galore! Crafting galore!
Cooking galore!
Farming galore!
Monster taming galore!
Dating and romance galore!
3 story arcs, town quests, romance options, crafting, cooking, medicine making, exploring, forging, farming, fishing, festivals, romance. overall tons of contents that will last you many hours of game time! plus there are 20 save files, so you may replay as much as wanted!
nice video
