      @youarealwayscorrect Месяц назад +13

      But at least fallout 3 and 4 offer way more freedom of movement and exploration in the opening 5-10 hours of the game. The first act of New Vegas is pretty linear, as the game practically forces you to take one certain path and severely punishes you from attempting to travel in other directions.
      (Yes, I know that there are certain secret ways to get to the northern half of the map straight from Goodsprings, but no newbie will ever figure that out on their first playthrough and will just follow the same beaten path)

    • @obscure.reference
      @obscure.reference Месяц назад +1

      @@youarealwayscorrect oh the first 5-10 hrs of fallout 3 you mean dicking around in a vault as a baby, new vegas basically anyone who doesnt talk to the npcs is going to throw themselves at that area until they get around it, aka newbies.

    • @youarealwayscorrect
      @youarealwayscorrect Месяц назад +5

      @@obscure.reference come on, Fallout 3's prologue is not that long. I always spend the same amount of time dicking around Goodsprings as I do in vault 101. Both prologues last around an hour at a moderate pace.
      And yeah, like I said, New Vegas severely punishes any newbie who dares to try and explore anywhere that is not straight southward from the starting area, while 3 and 4 basically welcome you to go wherever you want right from the start.

    Most people are just saying to start with what they think is best or what they started with first.
    My personal favourite is New Vegas however there is no right or wrong game to start with.
    Fallout 1 is an old game from 1997 with top down turn based style. If you like CRPGS like Balders Gate 3 then you will like this.
    Fallout 2 is similar to Fallout 1 in terms of gameplay and released a year later. Though i would say play the first before it, there is nothing stopping you from playing this first.
    Fallout 3 is the first Bethesda Fallout and when the games went first person. It's gameplay isn't as smooth as other FPS games. It's a fun game to explore. Side quests are the most interesting part of the game. DLCs are worth it. It's a good start if you can look past to the clunky FPS gameplay.
    Fallout: New Vegas is similar to Fallout 3 in terms of gameplay so the same applies. What New Vegas does best is story and you will have a great time with characters in this. The DLCs are fun too.
    Fallout 4 is a good start too because the gameplay is vastly improved for FPS style. Though some of the role playing elements have been toned down. It's still fun. If you like exploring and building settlements then this will be great for you. The DLCs are again fun to play.
    Fallout 76 is an online game so only get it if you like playing online.
    Fallout Shelter is more about managing your vault. You can play it on your phone. Download and try it if you want.
    There is an online version of Shelter too.
    Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel don't need to be mentioned as they spin-offs most people aren't aware of. If someone want to play them, then it's their choice.
    I would say Fallout 4 is easiest to start with. It's not my personal favourite but it's very easy for newcomers. The controls are very easy to use. As you can play the other games after. Your favourite is your favourite so don't let others decide what you can like most.

    The nice thing about the series is that, while there are call backs to earlier games, each game has a self contained story that lets you skip around as you will. The only advice I'd give for the 3D games is save Fallout New Vegas for last. If you want to understand all the references, backstory, and the reason for the game's existence, the first Fallout game is the way to go. Yes, it's nearly 30 years old at this point (and it was built to run on computers that are no longer being made) its still available on Steam and you can speed run it in an hour and a half if you skip most of the dialogue, cut scenes and combat.

It's customizable, so you can make it play completely like Fallout 1, Fallout 2, or a hybrid of both. It's the best way to play Fallout 1. Plus you have Fallout 2 obviously.

    Fallout New Vegas is 3 but with the better story, game mechanics and non-linear choices. Many longtime fans consider this game as the best in the franchise.

    It was probably a concession made to include all the games for this video, but I'd say Fallout 4 takes the cake for exploration too over Fallout 3. IMO, if you're the kind of person that loved STALKER and exploring the Zone then I'd highly suggest Fallout 4 and playing on the survival difficulty mode. I loved the Capital Wasteland, but it's definitely dated nowadays. If you want you can treat it as a sister piece to New Vegas and play them with the Tale of Two Wastelands mod so you can play New Vegas then can play Fallout 3 with the updates of New Vegas.
    Also on New Vegas I highly recommend following the initial section of the Viva New Vegas modding guide. It adds various bug fixes and utilities to make New Vegas run better overall. Takes maybe 30 minutes to get through (maybe longer if you're completely new to modding a Bethesda game).

    As a New Vegas die hard. I strongly recommend people start playing fallout at Fallout 3. I know, I know, it’s sacrilege but since playing New Vegas and FO4 before FO3. I didn’t get the chance to enjoy what FO3 was trying to offer because in many ways New Vegas and FO4 are an improvement. But what FO3 does better, I think is the early game. Unlike FO4 and NV the tutorial takes place in the vault and then you are dropped almost smack dab in the center of the map with no real direction on where to go. This lack of awareness for what the wasteland holds for you is terrifying, and since there’s not really anything that dictates where you can or can not go you can have a different experience almost every time.

    4 or 76 if you just want to jump in. 3 and New Vegas needs a little bit of modding so you can play on modern PCs since these two games are ancient. If you're willing to learn how to install mods, I'd go the 3/NV route.

      @@ukiyoideas2215 there's underlying issues with it that kind of makes it hard to deal with. Such as the game using at Max 4gb ram and could cause issues. It's not running the game at its best.

    I would say fallout three might be the best place to start because the introduction really does introduce the world. BETHESDA doesn’t get enough credit for the way they create big moments. Just go into it knowing that there are better games in the series. But if you have trouble getting a hold of fallout three on a system you can play, go for fallout four. Of course the RPG elements are massively dumped down but as a first taste I think it’s probably the best place to start., Your second game should probably be new Vegas

    Started with 4 when its got released but its so borin that ive put it down and never play it ever again.
    However, i just picked up New Vegas couple of weeks ago and im about to finish Fallout 1 and starts my journey on the 2nd one, what a frickin ride.
    New Vegas is prolly one of, if not, the best game ive ever played….no mods too.

    I would recommend that you play New Vegas, Fallout 3, Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 in this order. Yes, I said Fallout 76. I said what I said and I am standing on business. It is a great game too.

    I am quite happy with the renewed interest in older Fallout games, but the choice of showing mid to end game footage of several games is baffling. Maybe a spoiler alert warning could have been appropriate?

    Yeah fallout 4 doesn’t have the strongest story but it has plenty of fun side quests, which is the heart of any fallout game

    Buy them all in a sale, play Fallout 4's prologue, uninstall it, play Fallout 3's prologue, uninstall it, play Fallout 1 (with mod playing it in F2's engine), Fallout Tactics, Fallout 2 (with restoration mod), and Fallout: New Vegas (with restoration mods).

      What? You must be PlayStation player. 3, 4, new Vegas and 76 are all cheap to decent price with backwards compatibility of Xbox. I have all platforms so I don't have this problem. They are easy access minus 1 and 2. Unless you are PC all are accessible.

    Reality is: all fallout games feel very old for one reason or the other. They really should make current gen editions of fallout2 and then new vagas, while releasing the new games.

    The first two games are for a certain audience-crpg fans, or folks who enjoy adventure or strategy titles. The modern games are all action-rpgs, even the deservingly praised New Vegas. Nothing wrong with that, but trying to convince players who crave the immersion of that 3d action loop to play Fallout & Fallout 2 is a waste of time. That said, all modern commentary on the first two games highlights F2 as the best one, which kind of breaks my heart. Mostly because it's longer and better achieves the open-world ambition of the first. It's also an inferior introduction to the world; sillier in tone, with some dubious (dated) humour; and some questionable plot choices (although suitably impressive in scope). It's an incredible game, full of must-see sights and experiences-with many mechanical improvements on the original-but doesn't have anywhere near the replayability of the first; not least because its length makes that less appealing.
    Speaking for myself, the plot and tone are also more likely to wear out their welcome. The first game has hands down the purest, most iconic introduction to the world, people and politics and most consistent vision; setting you loose into a hostile world, as an ignorant nobody on a quest to save their home.
