@@theonewhoknockd the supra has more weight because of the sound system and the nos, but the charger is lighter than the supra because the charger doesn't have much electronic or other things that will make the car heavier but charger has more grip and the supra has 19 inch rims and low profile tires which doesnt make grip so the charger will win even tho it didnt do wheelie
1:50 - I love, how the Dodge is lift up by ropes. It even goes into the air before it hits the critical point. Normally the nose would drop down that instant, that's why the always put a 200kg-metal-plate into the trunk of the General Lee when he did a jump - and afterwards the car was junk. But here the car does a nice jump for no reason.
That's also why on the big jumps in Bullitt, the Charger would come down front-first, and thus softer than the Mustang's all-4-at once landings. The same physics that made the General Lee fly worse, made the Bullitt Charger land better.
Interesting the engine was borrowed for the movie. And to think that blower on top of the engine was fake. Totally didnt expect that. The action sequence and the drag race scene uses a 383 Mopar instead. Before the train crossing jump scene. The Charger blew a piston and part of the block away. Usually that is a death sentence for any engine since oil will be pouring out of the hole in the block causing metal to metal contact and destroying all the bearings and piston , piston walls etc. The stunt sequence for the Charger to hit the semi truck and barrel roll in the air is usually done with a fixed single rail ramp before the stationary truck. The stunt driver will be strapped into the stunt Charger and he has to drive at an exect speed to perform the perfect barrel roll. Modifications to the Charger is the reduced fuel cell and carrying enough fuel just for the stunt in case of a fuel cell rupture and cause the car to catch fire. 900 bhp in drag form. That Charger will smoke that Supra any day no question. The Charger like the Skyline GTR is now an icon for the Fast and Furious movie. Other than Tokyo drift, 2Fast2Furious, Fast 4. The Dodge Charger 1968 and 1970 models were used in all movies. Now Vin Diesel becoming the brand ambassador for Dodge products called The Brotherhood of Muscle says a lot.

Actually, Burnout+Wheel-stand DOES happen, I’ve seen it - my dad’s 1968 Plymouth Roadrunner... he dumps the clutch - tires spin/smoke. quickly pushes it back in, dumps it again - tires spin/smoke less, quickly pumps the clutch 2 more times, tires are hot, tires grip, front end launches into the air just like the movie.... the only part is by the second clutch pump, you’ve launched and aren’t stopped at the starting line like the movie, the presentation is a little off, but it’s not impossible

I'm actually building a car just like Dom's, it's a 1969 however. When it's all done it'll be supercharged just like his making around 1100 to the crank with a 572 hemi. This film had a huge impact on my car taste along with family, it really solidified my love of muscle cars and I wanted one just like Dom's one day. I chose the '69 because I like the grill better than the '70.
It's a truth many don't want to accept but this is how cars work. And plus I usually talk to Craig on the phone before even writing the script for these videos

I like to think the "tire smoke" from the charger was actually blow-by from the engine..it does throw a rod moments later..so blowing smoke at WOT is plausible. :)

@Red Beard's Racing was not a Chevy motor in the 1st movie..It was a 528 hemi and the other cars were real mopar motor cars. Later on the chargers used were cobbled together only using a dodge body and had gm power plants cause they were cheap.
The sound is stock sound from the '55 Chevy gasser from Two Lane Blacktop and later American Graffiti...in fact the sound of most muscle cars in most movies is that car. So it's actually a twin carbed, straight piped 454 you're hearing. That car was infamously so goddamned loud that they had to build a second mockup car for interior shots because the vibration was making the film skip in the cameras.

From my experience it looks as if he broke a connecting rod, a broken rod will always go out the side of the block.. it'll still run but definitely not as efficient and not for long. Unless that car had a diaper I doubt he would be able to control it due to fluids everywhere
The wheely was pulled off by using a hydrolic ram similar in design to the Nikko Jumping car. The truck crash was done in one take and some of the fake super chargers were real but not hooked up as you've said. Not all were plastic.
I believe the Maxima was supercharged, but the car is on the list so I'll verify it with the original owner and builder of the car before I make a video on it
Hurricane Hennessey I remember a sport compact car magazine about that car. The fastest car from that movie was the comptech s2000. That Supra has a t-66 or t-88 single greddy kit. They said it “made a wicked howl” and normally a greddy single turbo kit could run a 11 with an idiot driving this one was way down on power. Also the cool plexiglass hood vent melted from the heat and you could mold it into fun shapes.
I too also thought it was overdone on the Burnout scene. There are some instances of this actually happening. Type ' 1965 Top Fuel dragster wheelstand Burnout launch' and you could find it
I have actually seen a car do a burnout (technically) and wheelie at the same time. It popped the front wheels up and the rear tires slipped a little bit, but nowhere near like the movie.
The motor they used was a Chevy 454 supercharged for filming in the final drag race was a 440 motor but if the external oil pump blows you lost all power not increasing power to beat the train and smoke like it did , ask how I know ?? I've blown 440 up raceing them back in the day

Actually a freind of mine hade seen the hero car, it was for sale in Switzerland, he checked the fender tag, and it was just a 1970 Charger with an 318, not an R/T , also the 70 Charger "R/T" hase some kinda scoops on the doors. ;)

For that charger to take off as fast as the supra the tires would need to be fresh at optimal temperature and very, very low pressure. And again, for that car to keep up with the supra at high speeds it would need to be able to have gearing unsuitable for drag racing. As It's safe to assume that Supra will easily do 190 with all that power if not more. Also for a car like the charger to lift it's front and spin it's tires even lightly when doing so, the power output would need to be in thousands. Can't do these kinds of tricks with barn 1970 Sunday car that wasn't driven by anyone in years

The car from the iconic garage scene is an early 392 Hemi which came in Chrysler products from 1957 to 1958. You can tell this because of the distributor placement. 1st gen Hemi's use the distributor mounted in the rear of the engine. The 2nd gen Hemi was the 426. The 426 has a front mounted distributor similar to the 383/400 and 440 b series and rb series engines. All the driving scenes of the Charger in the first movie used a 350 Chevrolet engine with a fake supercharger. 9" Ford differential outback. Rather generic but this was a time before the GM LS swap was all the craze. All of the later Chargers use a LS swap inlcuding the Daytona clone. I'd rather see them with modern Hemi's but hey...it's Hollywood.

now that i hear it, they used na v8 sounds, instead of matching sounds to the race engine, plus if that thing was supposed to have a supercharger that big, you would have been able to hear alot of whine

That was a Gen 1 Hemi, which did have a rear distributor, the Gen 2 Hemi had a front distributor

The borrowed engine was a hemi. The driving version was Mopar.
The S2000 was stock engine but it used the engine sound from a SR20DET. VeilSide bodykit. Thats it.
@@linchester8464 you're saying Hemi and Mopar like they're seperate things lol. The garage scene engine is a Mopar Hemi. Craig Lieberman described the other engines used in stunt cars as stock Mopar engines which likely means a mix of RB and LA, whatever came in the car when they bought it.
@@linchester8464 nope. You're confusing Mopar with Mopar Performance. Mopar is just their parts division, while Mopar Performance is their performance parts line.
The car from the iconic garage scene is an early 392 Hemi which came in Chrysler products from 1957 to 1958. You can tell this because of the distributor placement. 1st gen Hemi's use the distributor mounted in the rear of the engine. The 2nd gen Hemi was the 426. The 426 has a front mounted distributor similar to the 383/400 and 440 b series and rb series engines. All the driving scenes of the Charger in the first movie used a 350 Chevrolet engine with a fake supercharger. 9" Ford differential outback. Rather generic but this was a time before the GM LS swap was all the craze.
All of the later Chargers use a LS swap inlcuding the Daytona clone. I'd rather see them with modern Hemi's but hey...it's Hollywood.

Correction, it is possible but not common to spin out while doing a wheelie
now that i hear it, they used na v8 sounds, instead of matching sounds to the race engine, plus if that thing was supposed to have a supercharger that big, you would have been able to hear alot of whine
Yeah, they didn’t have access to any engine remotely similar to that huge race engine
@@TheRacingJoker but i bet there were alot of supercharged 427s around, so they could have used those sound to at least make it sound like it was supercharged, plus they could have built up the stock 427 as well
They should have had some car advisers to tell them you can't pull a wheelie and smoke the tires at the same time, when I saw that I was like wtf ? So stupid
They did have advisors, sometimes they ignored them though
