Ok, so it's like the universe decided "Chad, we're going to help you fix your putting issue". I watched this because of the title, as it's exactly what I've been doing. I go to the course today and just can everything except one that was almost C2. Holy crow this was exactly my issue, thank you so much.
Hey Scott, it's Turbo Joe from the discord channel. Just wanted to say that this fix has given me so much mew found confidence in my putting heading into a tournament tomorrow. Thanks for all you do for disc golf, you are a true ambassador sir!
The way you break these topics down into such easy to understand descriptions is amazing. I'm also really impressed how you incorporate the fact that not one size fits all into your teaching.
RUclips must have been listening to me during my rounds because this is exactly the issue I've been encountering the most recently, and without knowing why, I almost entirely fixed the issue by changing my shoulder alignment. This confirms that my fix was the best thing to do, and it helps me know how to move forward. Thanks for posting this like two years ago haha!
This advice is GOLD Jerry. After a ton of experimenting this is something that I consciously did with my putt a while back and I'm so happy to see it vindicated by THE TEACHING GOAT himself.
Man, this is exactly what I needed. I do this exact putt and my confidence was shattered from anything 20ft plus because of how often I would miss wide right with seemingly no explanation. This already feels so much more comfortable and not missing wide right anymore, you’re the man Scott
What I wouldn't give to play a round with you brother! The way you teach is something special. You give us the why something works/doesn't work. That's the best way to learn for me. Thanks for all you do. You're a legend!
It could also be that you sometimes forget to use your legs when you are close to the basket, as your body thinks it's not needed. When your body realises too late that it does not have the forward momentum of your legs/body, the hand must (over)compensate causing you to pull it to the right. Thus, remember to engage the legs/body also when close.
I can relate to this problem... I usually get it sorted fairly early each season but occasionally I will have right side misses whenever I'm being lazy with my legs because that causes my arm to try to overextend at the end if I subconciously feel that I didn't put enough pop on the disc (where I normally release the disc a few degrees short of full extension).
YES!!!!! I have had this problem for a long time. I have figured it out 3 times now...you'd think I would remember! I absolutely MUST put my lead foot pointing to 10 o'clock. When it's pointing more toward 10 or 11 I miss a lot to the right, but properly placed I am bangin' chains all day! I knew this was an issue but didn't understand WHY, thanks Scott!!!
I owe you soooo much! I have never felt that confident on the putting green as now with this advice. It really works. Now I barely miss to the right or left. Most of them just go in! Thank you!
You the man Stott! Was a big fan back in the day and I now I'm thankful that you started making these videos. I am your age and still benefit from some of your suggestions.
Legit just have had this problem for a month now as I’ve been getting better at putting and no one has given me good advice, holy crap this is a revelation
I don't want to jump to hasty conclusions but this tip alone helped me score my best round of disc golf to date. Something feels so much more natural with my putt and I final feel confident and comfortable with this style. Could be cause I come from a golf background and am used to standing laterally to the whole. Idk but today I was able to hit cage on long circle 2 putts and even made a few. 30 footers and below was nearly automatic. Biggest tip about this was the fact when your splash putting to have limited engagement with the wrist. Thanks so much Scott your the best! Know I just hope I can figure out what's wrong with my forehand I've watched like every one of your videos on the subject but still can't do it with out pain

You just know that Perkins and his dogging crew absolutely legged it to the nearest basket to improve their putting techniques after watching this awesome instruction video.
This is spot on! My putting stroke is very similar to what's described here, and I've been missing a lot of c1 putts 2-3 feet to the right. I started experimenting with my set-up angles (feet and shoulders) a week or so ago and pointing everything a bit more to the left has helped me make putts much more reliably. Great work Scott!
...And although it sounds like a no-brainer - miss to the right, aim your set up to the left - it's reassuring to get reinforcement to your own ideas from a pro, especially when the putting mechanics are so similar to your own
I've just noticed and been working on this exact same concept in the last week or two. I noticed that if I needed a little more power (C2 or more), I was pulling my putts right. So, I gradually started turning my front foot just like Scott suggests and it's been helping. #puttingisanart lol
awesome. I am going to try this. I am having the same troubles. I am a bricklayer so shoulder problems are a thing that I deal with regularly. I love the sport. I just need to figure out how I can play the most disc golf that I can but how I can also keep doing my day job lol. Oh the struggle
Makes so much sense once I stood up and tried the little turn, I seriously feel like that’s going to make a hell a difference for me. I could see how it won’t pull to far right on me bc of the position of the shoulder. Wow, I sure hope it actually helps that would be sick. Always square up completely and I do exactly what this guy does
Interesting! In the winter, here in Minnesota, I have to switch to a straddle put because the extra layers cause my put to either drop short or pull right. I'm more consistent with a straddle. May have to experiment with my shoulder angle. Thanks Scott
I had the same issue and the fix was what you showed but then I started missing left and it felt awkward. However, I also found that every time I missed right, my putter was at an exaggerated hyzer position because of how I naturally throw and from being lazy. Combine a hyzer type grip in the back stroke with a lazy follow through where you don’t kick your left leg back to counter your momentum forward and it makes you miss right. My ultimate fix was keeping the putter flat(somewhat anny)and always countering my forward momentum with a nice left leg kick backwards.
That’s funny. I was just having an issue with my putting, so I adjusted my stance, and it’s all it took to get my confidence up again. Sometimes it’s the unknown thing that betters your game. Like practicing using your non-throwing hand; people think it’s useless, but it’s more like a child wanting to learn how to ride a bike, because once you do, it’s a deadly tool out on the course.
Broke my collar bone when I was a kid. It pops in and out and I have this problem every time I’m not warmed up or I’m feeling sore. Can’t wait to pay attention to these mechanics ext time I’m out!
Scott I’m trying to learn forehand. I’ve watched your forehand video multiple times and it’s made a big difference. Out of all the videos I’ve watched I’ve never heard anyone talk about the issue I’m having. If I tuck the disc right into my hand. My skin folds at the knuckle of my index finger knuckle and i feel the disc get stuck and it messes up my release. Ever heard of that being an issue? I use a standard stacked grip
Scott, I love this video. I have the same issue and the way you explain the mechanical solution is so simple. I believe my issue is a little different, I seem to have the same release point (several feet to the right) on *every* putt in a given round. Even my 10 footers will come out of my hand and end up totally on the right side of the chains. Its clear to me that my shoulder is catching as you describe as there are some rounds where it only happens once or twice, but more often often not it feels like every putt is rocketed off to the right of the basket. I have gone as far as turning my shoulders nearly perpendicular to the basket and it gets even worse. I wonder if you've encountered this offshoot to this issue. I can't figure out why adjusting my shoulders doesn't seem to affect the trajectory. It's almost as though the rest of my body auto compensates and puts it even further right. This happens on even my most confident feeling putts and completely drains me for the rest of the round.
I will tell you what causes me to do this- trying to use too much wrist movement to generate spin. If, at the end of my stroke, my palm is tilted up or my fingers are pointing away from the basket, the heel of my hand will push the putt off-center on release. I have to consciously remember to make sure my hand ends in a "handshake" position, with fingers pointing directly at the basket.
Scott, eventually this actually helped. I have a some sort of a spin putt with added push. I used to just spin putt but recently I haven't had any accuracy or touch with it. I combined this with the advice you gave on a video before about tranferring my weight towards the basket. I used to have my foot pointing inwards a lot but now it seems that I almost point it directly towards the basket naturally.
This is EXACTLY how I putt. Right foot slightly angled out to the left along with shoulders. I also spush putt, mostly push, little spin. I find that when I start missing right, my hand is following the line of my right peck. I fix it by following through more on the left side. Kind of over correcting for my common miss so I end up in the middle, straight towards the basket.
Man this is exactly my issue im a lefty so I either make it or whiff completely to the left lol gonna have to try this next time on the course thanks so much!
I don't have this problem at all but it was still a great video explanation. My miss is low right(Lefty), where I feel my arm tense up and the putter just kind of falls out of my hand. Such a stupid feeling.
So much this!!! Generally Right handed but very left eye dominant. I'm ambedexyrus in a lot of things, but I cant seem to get left handed putting down. This video actually helped a lot already! I'm a rh putter with the same spush style. I've been experimenting with shoulder angles a bit the past 2 weeks but I wasnt sure it was actually the fix. This video explained perfectly what I think I needed to hear. The next part for me is getting my back to not lock up when I'm doing a lot of putting reps. I must be doing something that's keeping it tight, which makes it a lot harder to feel comfortable putting.
I wish I would have watched this video before my second rd in my tournament yesterday. I was either hitting cage or 2 feet to the right if I was up high enough.
When I last Putted in a spinning push putt I was missing high or low and a little left or right but more high or low and that was a error in my putting timing for the high and not enough power for the low.
My one issue is that if you have a hitch in your shoulder, IMO correct that. A healthy shoulder should be smooth. The strongest mechanical form would be more perpendicular, going more parallel could cause more problems. On that note, an easy fix often works out if a person doesn't want to deal with physical therapy and doesn't overdo it.
This exactly what's happening to me. I am lining up with my shoulders pretty square to the basket but sometimes my arm just yanks itself to the right and I have no idea why. I am point my arm arm straight at the basket but for whatever reason my arm pulls to the right sometimes even when I am very close to the basket.
Every time my putting is off i come back to this video to remind myself. My miss is always right by a good amount, either dead center or airball right.
Hey Scottie I can turn 120 degrees and I still miss to the right. I'm thinking I need a higher speed disc for my putts a 4 or 5 with a high fade. It's frustrating I can't take the game seriously missing everything to the right
Scott you were right . It is a mechanics thing. I noticed my left side was actually doing more work than might right side. Point being as a result when you putt right handed people forget that your left side has final say in your putt direction. Focusing on that really helps
I’m having trouble with spin putting from 30ft+. Can’t seem to control the spin or the accuracy. When I do make it. It feels lucky instead of a pure putt. Can you help me with this on a video?? Please
