I'm 46 and my father 82 and I also "infected" him with the excitement for Tesla and the electric cars. He also seem to have very much fun in supporting the future generations and it's also helping to deepen the bond between father and son to have this common interest now.

I just recently started working out there on the Panasonic side. It is huge, there a lot of ppl, many Tesla's, and so far seems to be a pretty good job.
What do you do there?
@@VideoMasher3000 I am in training still, but I'm in the press room where the battery ruptures & terminals are pressed out for the battery caps. The ruptures are designed to pop up at a certain pressure & vent out the holes in the terminals incase there is an issue w/ a battery. That's kinda vague but I really don't know enough to try to talk like I do know just yet, lol.

As far as the specific job that I'm doing, I think it's more or less just kinda luck of the draw honestly. They put you where they kinda need you it seems. I was given a couple choices within the "top cap" area of the battery manufacruring process (there are several different areas in the manufacturing of the batteries. I dont know what all they are or how many there are. There are many it seems, my area is "Top Cap") they had a couple positions open in assembly, a couple in press, & one in quality control. I took 1 of the press positions. I didn't apply for it specifically per say.
I didn't like assembly because it's in an ultra clean environment and you have to put booties over your shoes, put on one of those like tyvex full body suits, cover your head, wear a mask & all that stuff. My body temperature runs hot enough as is, I don't need any extra layers, nor did I like the idea of having to take all that shit on and off every time u go on break, lunch, etc. The press room is a little different, that stuff isn't needed. Its just really loud so the worst I have to deal with is keeping earplugs in all the time.
I think between here there, CNBC does produce quite a bit of fair reporting. I like this one.
That's because they're right now talking about the States and NOT the rest of the world.
As long as they stay away from politics, as with all these outlets.

I think all reporting is inevitably biased, because you're condensing information and so it will never represent reality perfectly
@@spaceowl5957 Plus the 3 minute tour didn't mention battery production, nor how a big chunk of the factory is reserved for Panasonic, and the reported didn't even take an interview from a single worker, yet all people in the comments are worried about the 9 dollar lunch for visitors, amazing priorities.

Love the fact that they incorporated their key supplier in the factory. Reducing a lot of costs and problems with transportation and communication.
I've been a Tesla fan and love my Model 3. I know Elon has a great heart and vision and I know he will succeed (already has). He's pushed the boundaries of BEV forcing the industry to take EVs very seriously. I'm looking forward to buying another Tesla. Designed and made in America with pride with the envy of the world. What's the problem?

Alan Maignan only for family members and friends of someone that works there, you can't just show up and get a tour
@@Celestial-Idiot I asked and they also do tours for clients taking delivery of the car at the Gigafactory. None of those situations apply to me. I drove from Montréal (Canada) To SF and drive pass it tomorrow.

Man. I didn't realize the factory aimed to be net zero and produce ALL of its own required energy to function. That's absolutely daunting!
They will never be net zero until they can produce a battery that doesn't use rare metals.

Why it's changing the world, in China they have tons of electric cars. Other Western companies also produce them, obviously, they are not so flashy as Musk

I went on a school trip with other students from other schools on a interview for a chance to work for them and even get a share of their stock. Too bad I didnt make it, you didnt even need experience either. It was a pretty amazing tour.

I’m retired now, but most of my career was in a factory environment. Some were good... a few... not so. A new facility like this, is clean & safe... BIG plusses ! I assume the wages are decent... $9 for lunch seems a bit high, but they ARE somewhat remote. Nicely done report 👍

Frankly, that you paid $9.68 for your lunch at the gigafactory is not cheap.
They are Tesla employees, probably making well over the median income for that geographical area. A $10 lunch is NOTHING! I live in NYC and pay well over that each time I go out to eat

I don't think so. They are sorta protected, same reason you couldn't just catch a deer to keep. However some government agency (the blm I think?) periodically corals bunches of them to cull the wild population a bit (why? lol). And I think you can buy them pretty cheap cause they have to spend more bunches of federal bucks (pun intended) to keep em alive in the corals. But be warned, you'd be buying a wild animal, I remember decades ago my uncle yelling at me because I went near his coral where he bought and kept wild horses, apparently there are extremely strict protocols for converting them into a working animal, and it's an expensive process that if done wrong makes you waste lots of money, and dumb kids don't under stand animal psychology...

I would love to see the various high tech fire safety systems employed in this vast building. The worst kinds of structural fires historically happened in low, high area footprint buildings like warehouses and shopping malls.

@@thedevilsadvocate886 The goal of Tesla was to accelerate the advent of sustainable transport. If China steals the plans and builds millions of electric cars and trucks Tesla kinda succeeded. The fact that all major automakers are now working on serious electric cars also is a sign of success. 15 years ago nobody though electric cars would just be around the corner and that they could have great range and performance. That's why they open sourced many their key patents for making an electric car. Of course they'll still try to make the best electric cars and stay ahead of the competition but that won't be the case forever. If they survive as a major car manufacturer over the decades that will have been a major achievement.

The fork lift in the factory operates with gas not electric. How does it mean?
The fact that they didn't have pick up orders for the merchandise in a "highly efficient" factory and instead had employees wait in lines at work is mind boggling.
