Regarding the GOG version, like Steam, GOG has frequent weekly & quarterly sales. I picked up Skyrim SE, even the AE DLC/add-on during the last Xmas sale for under $15. So if you don’t have a pressing need right this second, and can hold off a purchase until a sale, you can get it fairly reasonably priced. Without the AE dlc I think it was under $10.
Thanks, Helpful Moddin' Rabbit. I set my manifest file to read only long ago, Steam lists Skyrim in my library but thinks I have not downloaded it. I enjoy that.

You can find a specific Steam manifest for Skyrim SE, and setting it to read only should let you use the SKSE method. Been using it now for a few weeks without issue

one thing that helped me sort what caused crashes since i have 600+ mods is sort mods by category and disable them one by one and see what causes crashes or (ctd) i was surprised to know that a compass mod was causing all that fuss as it was secretly conflicting with *less intrusive huds*. everything went back to normal and for some reason even mods that didnt work started working too so i suggest changing load order for skse64 then sort mod by category next 👍🏽
Thank you for this. I stopped playing Skyrim for a bit to play games like Baldur's Gate 3 and came back to see Bethesda done fucked everything up again. I was using a massive mod collection too that was rendered basically useless. Probably won't play any Skyrim for a while(got the itch to play Oblivion again lmao), but I will definitely keep this in mind once I get back to it.
the game crash after the logo after the downgrade. Resolved: I used the mod Backported Extended ESL Support - BEES-1_2. Thanks for the video! While I have no compatibility issues with my mods with AE versions, I chose to downgrade the game for ideological reasons. What they did is sadly very bad! I selected to read only the posters and the app so steam can no longer update it.
I'm slightly shocked Bethesda isn't taking over the beyond skyrim project. Do you have any idea how much money they would make if beyond skyrim bruma costed money???
Honestly, if that happened, I would buy it. Sure, I will be giving money to Microshaft for a games I already bought, but to support Skywind, Beyond Skyrim and Skyblivion, it would be worth it.
I just started Skyrim modding again since 2015 and I was having so many combability issues when I found out the game was still being updated for some reason! Thank you so much for this helpful tutorial
Hopefully Helgari makes another patch, I'd love to learn from this and make a manual backup of Skyrim once and for all. This manifest downloading all seems pretty jank, unsure how stable my Skyrim ended up now.
While I recommend staying on 1.5.97, I do think it's worth upgrading to 1.6.1130 and then downgrading with the tool, using the "Best of Both Worlds" option. That way you go back to 1.5, but keep the updated ESMs, which newer mods have dependency on and can use updated ESLs, which are actually the one good thing about the recent updates.
Personally I use a modpack that reverts Skyrim to a specific version of Skyrim for that modpack itself. I love it for that reason as I don't need to worry too much about patches. I absolutely feel the pain though of everyone that has to deal with this.
Soo I downgrade it back Ae 1.6.640 and it work the first time but somehow it updated it after a week later.. and I finally downgraded it yesterday, game works but when I load into my saved or start a new game, it just crashes after 7 secs, is there a way to fix it?
I did this a few days ago too, did the Steam hack and just downgraded back down to SE version 1.5.97. Every mod works on this version, and i never get any issues in comparison to AE which always seems to have issues with loads of mods.
Unfortunately, Steam and Bethesda now work hand-in-hand to screw you over; setting Steam to Never Update Unless Launched Through Steam DOES NOT WORK. Why? Because, despite ALWAYS launching through MO2, Steam CHANGED my Skyrim settings, right before a Skyrim update, causing the newest update to happen, against both my wishes and my settings. And, as evidenced by multiple comments on my entertainment-news channel, the same has happened to many others. This is Not a joke, Steam is now in bed with Todd Howard to screw you over.
This happened to me too!! Tried to play Skyrim and SKSE told me they didn't match my version of the game. I checked and sure enough, my settings were changed to always keep the game updated. 🤬
Thanks for the video, I'm thinking of getting the game since there is a sale on a keyseller website for 10 dollars and i heard that the mods are where it's at, and i wanted to install any patches and whatnot for a unhindered experience, only problem is the whole system bethesda has with the game updates. so i'll definitely save this video for later. 👍
Also for the GOG version, I think it's only compatible with skse dependent mods for 1.6.640 (because it does have fishing, survival mode etc.), so if you were planning on using mods that weren't updated past 1.5.97 for it you're out of luck.
Haven’t played Skyrim in about 5 years, Nolvus the way to go from the get go? Also can anyone tell me is the steam community is the best place to stay up to date with things going on with the game or is there a good discord server?
oh wait. so downgrade from the newest update to the 1.6 update before that THEN go to 1.5.97 go from 1.6.1170 to 1.6.1130, then use the patcher mdo edit: Ok the patcher still isn't working. think I need to wait for it to update? I waited for the files in steam to download
1 and a half minutes in and i already like this content creator. ya know, there _is_ an ultra secret double-agent way to get Skyrim SE 1.5.97 without having to re-buy the game, use special mods that can cause save game issues or weird steam console commands (which i didnt know you could do until now). but its a hidden in a chest at the bottom of the sea..

Going to have to try this when I can, I didn't realize there was an update so when I used the second set without the first I broke the carriage sequence and deleted a whole chunk of ground in front of Solitude. It was so bad even verifying integrity (which forces you to update btw) couldn't fix it, I'll just have to start from scratch
Thank you so much, I finally got my game back to 1.5.97, and got some of my favorite mods to work. It was annoying, and we shouldn’t have to jump through these hoops, but I guess Todd hates us. Anyway thanks a lot. And I love that now they can’t update it for me anymore. That’s the best part.
I downgraded but now after launching SKSE it shows the Skyrim Dragon logo (not the Bethesda logo) then crashes a few seconds later. Anyone know how to fix this?
So I did everything in this video and downgraded to 1.5.97. BUT when I go to launch SKSE thru MO2 I just get a black screen and crash.. No mods or anything installed just a fresh blank list with only SKSE
I’m having some issues still. Manually downgrading to 1.6.1130 and then using the best of both worlds patcher has my game insta crash on startup(at Bethesda logo) and have no idea how to fix it
Was already doing this when i started watching this video, still gets a like from me :D also- there i was thinking Bethesda couldn't have any more reason to feel shameful after Starfield...
So, one of them downloaded, then it gave me this "ExecCommandLine: ""C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -foreground" And uhh, I'm not great at modding so I have no idea what this means. Can someone help me?
When the recent updates broke my 500+ modlist all I did was basically just downgrading to the version I've made my modlist for, yeah it's irritating, but not a big problem for anyone familiar with modding
I managed to patch my game and follow all the instructions and everything was perfect but when I open the game the logo appears and it closes automatically and I can't find a solution:(

Hello guys so I was able to load up my SKSE after watching this video however a lot of my mods aren’t working even though they are checked in my mod organizer, does anyone know how to fix this
I have an XBox 1 Elder Scrolls Skyrim Special Edition after Anniversary Edition update. I've just bought a download of part only Anniversary Edition but I can't play my original mods as there's no option for mods on the screen. Can you please help.
i been trying for 2 days now to get a working mod list after downgrading Skyrim 1.6.117 to 1.6.113[meaning you need to downgrade through the steam console now] and well... nothing works, like it works some of the time but because I dont have the creator tags on MO2 from Nexus I tend to mess up the order, and in these 2 days 6 times I managed to get MO2 to just give up due to some mod causing a segmentation fault which than ruins everything, and the sad thing is.. I have the DLC and I want some of it but well.. he just had to upgrade the version and less we forget those DLCs started as mods on Nexus[most of them]
That Steam setting does not work. Mine updated with that setting on for my game. I have read that an alternative is to set your update time for 1 AM to 1 AM.
I have a cracked Skyrim version of 1.6.640, I even had this game a year before but I deleted and when I wanted to play Skyrim again, this update happened, now I downloaded this version again but a mod Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch - USSEP is incompatible with this version and a lot of mods are dependent on this alone, is there a mod that is compatible with this version, that would solve all my problems.
When you use the steam console you may not need to use the mod to downgrade. Just check the details of exe file for the game in the directory mine was showing as 1.6.640 after and my game worked after this
I am struggling a lot with this.... I can't even load into the game to double check what version I have..... I have the modpack Legacy of the Dragonborn and now I can't run the game at all. I don't know anything about mods and I feel very stupid for not understanding. I think it is 1.6.1170 based on the SKSE64 Loader that pops up when I try to run the game, it says Runtime: 1.6.1170 and SKSE64: 2.2.3.
HI! So, in order to use a chunk of mods I like, I need USSEP, which is only compatible with the latest edition of skyrim. Should I just skip downgrading all together? I'm not sure what to do to get my mods working right, use USSEP, AND not have to use anniversary edition
you know, since i first played skyrim in 2012, i wanted to enjoy it again. Yet im so overwhelmed by the amount of effort to just use some moding.... i just want around like 10 mods, but even that brings me to SKSE (that dosnt work), downgrading Skyrim, choosing wich skyrim since there are now 3 versions out there... i miss the times you just could drag drop them in to the mod folder and it would work 😭
It can be hard to start modding. There are some very new user friendly mods out there though. I recomment GamerPoets youtube channel for a good starter guide.
Can someone tell me if this is normal when you downgrade your skyrim, I just downgraded it sucessfully to 1.6.640 and now I cannot access creation club. Is this the consequences of downgrading the game?
I have the GOG version of Skyrim because I saw the marketplace update coming wayyy before it actually happened. Now I am playing the heavily modded Skyrim AE version before Bethesda's marketplace update. It's going to stay that way forever. I now only play the Steam version in its vanilla state because it is no longer worthy to be modded.
Right now I can't even launch the game. Maybe I have to uninstall and try again? I'm at least going to try this method. I need to play skyrim damn it and my alternate start was going really well

one thing that helped me sort what caused crashes since i have 600+ mods is sort mods by category and disable them one by one and see what causes crashes or (ctd) i was surprised to know that a compass mod was causing all that fuss as it was secretly conflicting with *less intrusive huds*. everything went back to normal and for some reason even mods that didnt work started working too so i suggest changing load order for skse64 then sort mod by category next 👍🏽
Very late to the party, I recently started Skyrim. Was boggled by some mod issues. Thanks for this vid!
the game crash after the logo after the downgrade. Resolved: I used the mod Backported Extended ESL Support - BEES-1_2.
Thanks for the video! While I have no compatibility issues with my mods with AE versions, I chose to downgrade the game for ideological reasons. What they did is sadly very bad!
I selected to read only the posters and the app so steam can no longer update it.
life saver
nice to see so many comments, keep it up Kou
I'm slightly shocked Bethesda isn't taking over the beyond skyrim project. Do you have any idea how much money they would make if beyond skyrim bruma costed money???
Same could be said of Skyblivion and Skywind. Saw a video on Skywind it looked good and they designing with levitation in mind.
Honestly, if that happened, I would buy it. Sure, I will be giving money to Microshaft for a games I already bought, but to support Skywind, Beyond Skyrim and Skyblivion, it would be worth it.
I will never buy a paid mod
Bethesda prefer to not paying them.
Don't give them any ideas!!!
I just started Skyrim modding again since 2015 and I was having so many combability issues when I found out the game was still being updated for some reason! Thank you so much for this helpful tutorial
My dumbass on playstation who can’t get 90% of the mods for skyrim😂
I will help you go to war with Sony. 😤
Yeh Im with you there, but at least it isn't switch, they get non
@@drakonghost6967 I imagine Skyrim on a switch is…extremely toned down.
@@drakonghost6967 honestly I would be surprised if switch had any. Switch can barely run normal skyrim without exploding😂
your not, dumb, your just poor, i'm poor too, but i do have a PC, it's just old as hell by todays standards.
Thank you I really approve your help and time you took to make this 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
This work has reserved for you a place of great honor in Sovngarde 👑
Hopefully Helgari makes another patch, I'd love to learn from this and make a manual backup of Skyrim once and for all. This manifest downloading all seems pretty jank, unsure how stable my Skyrim ended up now.
such a solid guide. making a complex task to people like me who aren't familiar with all the tech stuff and making it easy to follow. thanks :)
i could not find the appmanifest mentioned in the video tho
I'm subbing and never unsubbing because of the first minute and twenty seconds of this video.
What's the difference between downgrading from 1.6.1170 to 1.6.1130 and 1.6.640 if using the patcher eventually leads both versions to 1.5.97? Thanks!
Don’t forget Backported Extended ESL Support for versions before 1.6.1130!
I have seen people commenting that even if you disable the auto updates on steam
The option is being turned back on somehow…
Thanks for the video, I'm thinking of getting the game since there is a sale on a keyseller website for 10 dollars and i heard that the mods are where it's at, and i wanted to install any patches and whatnot for a unhindered experience, only problem is the whole system bethesda has with the game updates. so i'll definitely save this video for later. 👍
thank you, i have been waiting for this
ty so much this fixed all my problems
Thanks for the Skyrim mod video Koubitz 😊😊
Also for the GOG version, I think it's only compatible with skse dependent mods for 1.6.640 (because it does have fishing, survival mode etc.), so if you were planning on using mods that weren't updated past 1.5.97 for it you're out of luck.
Ah, super helpful. I overlooked something so obvious. Thank you!
Haven’t played Skyrim in about 5 years, Nolvus the way to go from the get go? Also can anyone tell me is the steam community is the best place to stay up to date with things going on with the game or is there a good discord server?
the game does not work at all after the latest "update" fail they did.
cant make a new character, black screen. cant load my old save. black screen.
oh wait. so downgrade from the newest update to the 1.6 update before that
THEN go to 1.5.97
go from 1.6.1170 to 1.6.1130, then use the patcher mdo
edit: Ok the patcher still isn't working. think I need to wait for it to update?
I waited for the files in steam to download
1 and a half minutes in and i already like this content creator.
ya know, there _is_ an ultra secret double-agent way to get Skyrim SE 1.5.97 without having to re-buy the game, use special mods that can cause save game issues or weird steam console commands (which i didnt know you could do until now). but its a hidden in a chest at the bottom of the sea..
5:36 I use a Firefox extension called SelectText everytime I video it pops and lets you select text in the video.
well last time i had to completely rebuild the game like for the 3rd time sigh this time i was covered no problems i thot until i took comp to shop to get some fams and power supply replace and tech tried to open game from steam.....but this seemed to have worked ty his has been saved by you
Going to have to try this when I can, I didn't realize there was an update so when I used the second set without the first I broke the carriage sequence and deleted a whole chunk of ground in front of Solitude.
My idiotic little brother started clicking random stuff on steam and launched skyrim. I'm making sure he never touches my PC again!
So I did everything in this video and downgraded to 1.5.97. BUT when I go to launch SKSE thru MO2 I just get a black screen and crash.. No mods or anything installed just a fresh blank list with only SKSE
it just crashes every time i try and boot it up with skse. cant seem to get the downgrade to work
this came in so much clutch
For anyone to lazy to type cant copy and paste, still copy each code by itself go back to the steam thing click the typying area and hit ctrl V
Blows my mind that a ton of people apparently didn’t know to just fucking disable Skyrim updates in Steam to avoid their mods breaking.
they didn't notice or ignore the news when the upcoming 1.60 release that day😂😂,
Hey I did as instructed in the video but now everytime I launch the game it crashes after the bethesda logo. Can anyone help?
I wish Bethesda could update their games in a much more less-aggressive way than current's. Great video!
I’m having some issues still. Manually downgrading to 1.6.1130 and then using the best of both worlds patcher has my game insta crash on startup(at Bethesda logo) and have no idea how to fix it
I wouldnt be so sure that rupert isnt the best mod...
Maaaaaan at this point the best, most effective and also easiest way to save your mod list in Skyrim is to pirate the game.........
I always keep a backup copy of my Skyrim game folder just in case.
Was already doing this when i started watching this video, still gets a like from me :D
also- there i was thinking Bethesda couldn't have any more reason to feel shameful after Starfield...
So, one of them downloaded, then it gave me this "ExecCommandLine: ""C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -foreground" And uhh, I'm not great at modding so I have no idea what this means. Can someone help me?
whats crazy is they reset users update preferences so it went from never to always update and it happned through skse as well
Every time get mods I push a and it does not work like it’s freezing the controller. I don’t know how to fix it or they need need to fix it
When the recent updates broke my 500+ modlist all I did was basically just downgrading to the version I've made my modlist for, yeah it's irritating, but not a big problem for anyone familiar with modding
I managed to patch my game and follow all the instructions and everything was perfect but when I open the game the logo appears and it closes automatically and I can't find a solution:(
Im running into an issue saying my download depot failed anybody know why this keeps happening? My game surprise updated me yesterday not sure how it happned and I am a veteran modder.
I'm very happy somebody made a video like this but one thing that concerns me is I'm a console player and how am I supposed to fix the issues like that on my end that is if I have to
In some ways, the downgrade patcher is a combat mod. You're fighting the greed and incompetency of Bandithesda, and their overlords M$.
I have this spinning wheel of doom while playing skyrim that makes me unable to save, like i literally can't press save. I think its due to my mods
I tried the downpatcher the version I have is SSE which is supposed to be 1.5 yet it is the AE 1.6 so will not patch it
I have updates disabled on steam and it is no longer an option
Main i only have 155 mods and my skyrin crashes after playing it for 1 minute. I need an actual free modlist to play it at least for 1 damn hour
B-but the most recent updates says it fixed an issue that prevents mods from loading! T-T
Thank you very much for the help! yay
I now only play the Steam version in its vanilla state because it is no longer worthy to be modded.
i cant find the downgrade patcher for 1.6.1170.08
Guess what. You can not stop auto Updates. Steam got rid of that, the lowest setting is update on launch.
the constant updates keep me from coming back to modding just gonna go back to oldrim
So I'm just going have to wait till the few mods I had that got broken get updated, well I've waited before, I can wait again.
Right now I can't even launch the game. Maybe I have to uninstall and try again? I'm at least going to try this method. I need to play skyrim damn it and my alternate start was going really well
