Thanks for posting this. I had a similar problem with a broken-pin on the ECU on a totally different car (2002 Chevy Camaro SS...the broken pin was for the AIR injection pump so I was getting a Check Engine light). Your video gave me the idea to try the same type of fix. It turns out, on my car it was even easier because the ECU didn't have the silicone to cut through (GM used rubber gaskets in that year to seal the ECU.) It was just a matter of finding the right terminal to make the solder connection. Anyway, good idea and thanks again.

Module after module, you show no fear and salvage what would have been tossed out in 99.99% of shops.
This is especially valuable for DIY mechanics where $hop time isn't a consideration.

To remove silicon from ECU like this one, you have to use Toluen. It will disolve the silicon and the plastic an the PCB will not be affected, but dont use acetone. You will have it soaks for few hours and it works very well and by the way, I like your videos ;)

There is a simpler and nether way to fix the broken pins ; unfortunately I did not tok pictures, but the idea is that you take a small drill and dril right next to broken pin, ad flux in the hole , pre-solder a new pin , put in the hole and heat it up ; it work perfect .

Hi, smart move again. May i ask you something ? i got c2 2004 with same engine just it has diffrent ecu, anyway i scan car and i got p1613. Carprog doesnt explain that but i found its a O2 bank 2 fault. I took a look to live data which is confirmed that o2 bank 1 works fine, but nothing on o2 bank 2 (after cat one).I couldnt switch and test the plug cuz sockets are diffrent. Probably most of o2 sensors has same connections. So i measured resistance of part , between pin 1 - 2 has high resistance (3 or 4 times more then they explained at part info). Pin 3 - 4 must be between 4 -5 ohm which is good on part. Also Ecu connection has power( 14v ) etc so wiring between o2 and ecu seems fine too. Car is in limp mode. Here is where i confused, wiring is fine, broken or not O2 sensor wd show something on live data right ? i mean that value cdnt be accurate but more less i shd see something, but it shows nothing. So im suspicious about ecu side. I wanted to get your thots about it. Shd i order O2 sensor or what ? İs it normal that shows zero data on live scan mode ?

    • @LMAutoRepairs
      @LMAutoRepairs  5 лет назад +1

      Hi
      It should show something indeed...
Proving that the tool you are using is reading live data ok...
Trey to input the upstream sensor into the downstream plug into the ecu...
If you them see readings on the downstream (provided by the upstream sensor...), that will mean your ecu is ok...
      Hope it makes sense...

Do you have any idea what can be wrong? I can't find any decent mechanic in Plymouth where I live non of the mechanics could say what's wrong as there is no faults in the ECU.

There is no faults in the car that's why all the mechanic I spoken to have said it is fine and I have to live with it. For this engine average DPF regen while driving in town it should be 400km not 30km unless you stop regen before it Finnish the cycle. I can tell Luis know his job by watching his videos of troubleshooting unfortunately this is very rare to find mechanic like Luis who can fix cars without guessing and replace part after part if there is no fault codes in car.

Question is not Citroen is Sagem, Bosch, etc... These ECU's are used by several manufacturers and they pretty much all get into the same issues. Because it's basically the same parts. ;-)
Some simple tips that help if you start with a "new"/recent car (meaning not damaged).
Don't remove the protections under the engine. They're a lot more than simple splash guards.
Keep any ECU covers/caps in place, while making sure they are neither damaged or badly assembled/fitted. Same apply for the plugs and respective seals.
A preventative cleaning with "electronic contact cleaner" every 3~5 years will avoid a LOT of headaches in the future. Followed by a squirt of WD 40 or equivalent, on all those pins and some blown compressed air to remove excess.
Note, what is wanted is a protecting film/layer, not drench it in WD40.
A tiny squirt of silicone spray on the seals will also keep them pliable and in perfect condition. While help keeping water at bay. ;-)
If you're starting with a car where damage is already in place. Like in the video example. Well then its first correction measures, followed by the above prevention of future issues.
I guess it's worth saying. That all the above writing, in practice, accounts for 10 to 15 minutes intervention every few years! Not as bad as it might seem. LOL ;-)
Also it totally apply to relay and fuse box, etc.

@@crpth1 Well, that all good for people like us that like to get their hands dirty, but i still think cars are badly designed.
Granted, i'm not a mechanic and i have only my cars to form my opinion.
Why should the air filter on C4 be placed behind the engine when there is space in front? The air is routed back and then front exactly by the place where they could have placed the air filter.
And a few months ago i had to replace a steering pump on a Seat because some smart people placed the plug with the opening up, just like a cup. It collected moister that slowly got past the seel.
Even looking at Luis Videos, we can see that some stuff in cars is just badly done.
Brands don't care about maintainability or clients, they care about potential clients... that is over the moment we buy.
I guess this means more work for Luis, but damn it sucks for users.

@@maxsnts - Personally I might have a tiny advantage regarding understanding this compromises. And believe me "compromise" is the KEY word. Not only I'm a mechanical design engineer with a "few" of my >30 professional years dedicated to the auto industry. But have a fair share of car workshops and dirty hands from my younger years. We all started somewhere. LOL :-)
With this said I'm not the one who will justify why the air filter is in the back. But a quick look would make me guess that setting it over the turbo with not much space to spare. Would infer small volume and incredibly hot intake, plus the cost increase of heat baffles, etc. ;-)
Back to the ECU's, etc. These plugs and pins, mostly brass alloys, corrode and break relatively easy. Once more believe me Siemens, Bosch and all the other "big boys", know as well as I do. That a "small simple" change of material would solve the problem. The word gold plated comes to mind. I mean Gold plated, not "golden" plated. No more corroded contacts.
The saying that astronauts wear more gold than King Midas as a very good reason LOL :-)
Now pick that solution, scale it accordingly and we're talking "millions" that simply nobody would want to pay, either in production or down stream clients.
Enter the compromise word. Well engineering knows it's not the best, the men upstairs (budget) knows the same, in fact everybody knows it. But we also know there's thousands and thousands of cars more than 30 years old still running with their original plugs and pins...Well that's deemed acceptable, so keep it and deal with the odd repair here and there. Compromise. ;-)
In one of the factories where I worked, among several other brands, we put out Peugeot/Citroen and Mercedes parts. That's just to mention two opposing sides of the economical spectrum. ;-) The cost of one or the other are completely different realities. Is it because Mercedes engineers are better than Citroen engineers. Simple answer NO. But one as a budget more "flexible" than the other. Because the end client will support (pay) for it. In fact its making similar "omelettes" with less eggs. :-)
Oops got enthusiastic with the keyboard...
      Cheers

nice fix but the problem actually comes from the electronic thermostat thats why water goes into the ecu the best solution is to replace thermostat, solder the wires that plug into the thermostat then you have a permanant solution
