I’ve bought a Cummins kit for a 300 when the engine popped. Decided to go for the Mercedes OM606 instead so the Cummins can go into a Td5 130.

best engines ever. I like the td5 also a lot. its very very sturdy and reliable, not as reliable as an analogue 200/300 TDi of course but still very solid

How much weight do you take off the flywheel ? Is it the same amount for both 200 and 300tdi engines?

The 200 is better than the 300 in my opinion

i wouldnt necessarily say better i would equal weight them. Both are great engines that with minimum maintenance go a long way. I think its a personal choice, i had both for a couple of years in a range Rover classic. I was very happy with both of them. Fuel consumprtion is great @8/9L per 100 km

I have the flywheel locking tool, or timing pin kit that I bought from someone who machined it all himself, I got it for the 200tdi that I used to have at the time.
Just wondering if it would be compatible with the 300 as well or not. Any idea?

When it comes to skimming the flywheel on 300tdi’s how much do you take off them in thickness and weight? Many thanks Rory

I was asked before. Depends on the damage of the flywheel I guess. But they are heavy so lots of room for improvement. I leave that up to my machine shop to decide

Thank you for the reply! That’s exactly what I ended up doing, left it up to my machinist to decide how much to take off. Keep up the great work 🤠🤠

the head gaskets are the the same but why you want to try ? Never seen one with swapped heads but maybe you are the first to get it done:)
