    Hi There! Thanks for this, I am recently the proud owner of my first Disco 1 300tdi.!! I have redone the motor (bought it with a water leak in cylinder 2) and have basically replaced everything, barring a few odds and sods.
    I did not know about this pipe nor did I check it! I will be doing so tomorrow morning!
    Found the video searching for 300tdi's with excessive black smoke (not heavily excessive, but quite a bit more than what is standard on a diesel motor in my opinion!) this may not be the fix, but definitely worth having a look at. I am worried that it may be my injectors as I did not replace them, but did have them checked by a diesel pump mac who said they were okay, not the greatest, but okay.
    Great, to the point & informative video! Subscribed!

      Injectors were supposed to be serviced every 90,000 miles - but they never were, and progressively worn or became blocked - maybe a set of new nozzles may remedy the problem?

    Thanks for posting this, I Need to check mine when I get back home, my landy started to have a low rpm idle on the school run at every red light, I had to blip the throttle to keep the revs up, it would sort it self out then idle like normal.. then this morning it wouldn’t start well at all.. loads of black grey smoke spitting oil residue on to my wall.. it’s always had a black smokey start up but this time it kept trying to stall, then when I reved it up loads of grey black smoke would pouring out and it wouldn’t rev high at all and it bogs down and cuts out.
    Hopefully it’s the hose it’s the easiest thing to check 😅

    £109 for a freaking quarter inch rubber hose? Whatever the service folks at JLR are smoking I want some.

    Good info there, I have 2 turbo gauges, one in the turbo to FIP line and one at the inlet manifold, soon shows me if there is an issue with pressure being lost. Cheers

    Hi Mike. Great video and I will check mine when it stops bloody raining. I have a problem with my 300tdi. It suddenly lost power and will not rev over 3000 rpm. It also hunts when at idle. The revs rise and fall. Someone said it might be a stuck boost pin, so I checked, and it was moving freely. I rotated the boost pin about a quarter turn, and it has an effect on the performance for now, At least it is drivable now, but I still want to sort out the underlying problem. I thought it might be sucking air in the fuel lines, so I ran it from a can of fuel in the engine bay, and it didn't make any difference. I am now thinking it is either the injector pump, or the injectors, but I thought I would ask you before I start getting too deep into it.

      Check the pipe inc. turbo hoses
      Did you put the fuel directly to the pump?
      Doubt it will be injectors - Could be the pump - I have seen a few with broken springs on the HP side

    Would this be a top-end power loss or throughout the rev range Mike? My def90 200 seems to be getting a bit breathless at high revs but pulls well low down. It's the original turbo running a full width Fearn intercooler and std air filter - used to be a bit quick but isn't happy towing heavier stuff now, regular changing down on hills, and tops out about 75mph unladen. Used to be good for an indicated 90 mph+ (If you had the nerve!)

      @@BritannicaRestorations Good question, I'm planning a bit of trial and error testing of everything but saw this video and wondered how such a vacuum loss from the turbo - pump tube would show up...

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  Год назад +1

      It is a pressure loss = no pressure = no boost to the injector pump, not much acceleration
      From what I can recall, the turbo boost comes in at 2000 RPM, so that is why the pipe is lined to the top of the injector pump to adjust the fuel to compensate for the extra pressure generated - with more air in the intake, you can burn a bit more fuel, and get more power

    I’m thinking I got exactly this problem yesterday. Noticed a noise that I first thought sounded like wind coming from the dashboard at around 1900rpm in any gear, and a lack of acceleration. Thought clutch but it seems to pull away ok, no engine race. Will check today!

      @@BritannicaRestorations Thanks! Solved it today😄 . Jubilee clip on bottom intercooler hose had slipped off - explains lack of boost and 'wind noise'! It was the first thing I checked but obviously I missed this bottom one. I need to find better alternative to crappy quality jubilee clips from the auto parts store. They overtighten and slip so easily! During my investigation I checked the boost pipe as per this video, the short waste gate pipe and tested the waste gate actuation. I learn something every time and your videos help greatly! Cheers!

    • @MrH44
      @MrH44 10 месяцев назад

      Try Mikalor Clamps. You have to be accurate with size as they won’t cover the same range as a jubilee. Only thing to remember is if using stainless ones always grease the treads.

    Does the pump diaphragm also lift up and decrees fuelling when the turbo is lagging? ie if you removed the turbo for some strange reason, should the fuel pump still be connected to the intake manifold?

    • @TheTomco11
      @TheTomco11 4 месяца назад +1

      It increases fueling in line with manifold pressure, and sits against a stop while off boost. No reason to connect it with no turbo as it would sit against its stop the whole time

    My mates 300tdi lacked power, turned out someone didn't take the little bag containing 2 washers out of the new air filter, it took a year for the metal one to wriggle out of the bag, down the inlet pipe and say hello to the turbo blades..... Not one blade was left, no wonder it had no power. How he laughed.. Not. 😂
