Trailer wiring is the bane of my existence. I just recently re-did mine, and I spent an extra $25 on Amazon and bought a junction box and wired through that to hopefully provide some more longevity to our already ancient/aging towmaster. A lot more reliable than what the manufacturers send as standard equipment.
I have rewired a couple of trailers, all operated in salt water and the best thing i found was to forget about screwing a grounding wire into the frame, if the harness does not come with a negative/grounding wire to each light, I make one up that way. So much more reliable.
On way to Alaska had fuel pump fail. Got new one in a couple of days. Not OEM lasted for the trip but faile next year. Replaced with OEM I had to wait for long time. Has not failed 10 years later. Replaced oil and transmission coolers on both engines with non OEM. Oil cooler failed after 10 years.
The OEM truck version of the D12 is black and silver metal and is a Volvo warranty part. It clearly says Bosch on the black field. I wonder if the truck version is cheaper and has the same Bosch part number? If so, paint it white.
You don’t need a strainer cleaner. I suck it dry with a shop vac, disassemble or fill strainer directly in boat quickly with a 50/50 diluted muriatic acid solution for about 3 seconds (fast). Next, rinse with water *immediately* while throwing in some baking soda on and around it to neutralize any residual acid. It will be perfectly clear and it does harm the plastic or seals at all. I have done that every year now for over 20 years. (Perko strainers) Just a quick tip. It is inexpensive and immediate. I also sand blast them when they turn ugly green or when I get them new, you can spray them with canned shellac/clear-coat and they look great for years… (Only spray the bronze not strainer plastic or seals obviously)
