Aquasport CCP was way ahead of its time, with you adding some modern features paired with an E-Tec. Now you have the best boat out there! Don’t be afraid to go beat up and embarrass the guys with 200k boat show boats with four strokes on them.
Yeah I looked at new boats. The prices were shockung. I pulled my 97 Key West into the barn. Two months later I pulled it out better than new. Every hose, fitting, pump and wire in the boat was new and done right. I even added custom fiberglass fish boxes and seating improvements. I'm very happy with my decision and i still have no box payment.
Amazing looking boat! I have a 1976 Mako and I've been debating whether to buy a new boat or restore her. After looking at your video. I'm definitely going to restore her to my liking, like you did! Thank you for the video!
Idk why but the seats I love the most. What a awesome idea. Boat manufactures should use that idea. Just hands down one of the best rebuilds I’ve ever seen.
I am currently restoring a 1997 19' CC Trophy. I have the wiring complete for all her electronics. I put new bilge pumps in new fish finder and interior lighting. New cooler, cooler cushion and deck mounts in front the CC. I rebuilt the controls and bought new cover and handle for it. I have mr steering lubricated and it now works great. The hull and interior are in great shape and I've actually been below the deck inside the hull throught the hatch under the CC. All stringers are still solid .when I wash her she shines up like a new boat. My next step is to grind out some spider cracks and some stress cracks on the side of the top of rail and fill and re gel coat. After that it's just painting the deck buffing the hull and ordering some cushions for the seats and front bow. This boat will mostly be used in large lakes in Florida. Occasionally going to the intercoastal and in shore fishing shrimping and partying 😂. After being caught in a Florida thunderstorm in a 19' Lund Tyee and watching the bilge struggle to keep up with the ridiculous amount of water coming in I bought a self bailing deck and put two 11000 gallon bilge in it and I'm adding a third below the CC in the center of the hull. Lake George can get nasty fast with 6' waves and brutal winds in a thunderstorm. You get that chop it's not like the ocean the waves. It becomes short between intervals and intense like 3 waves at a time. I've seen the temperature drop from 92 degrees to 72 in less than 30 minutes. When you're body is use to 92 and the temperature drops 20 degrees you freeze so bad you can hardly function 😂. We bring rain gear and jackets now on perfectly clear hot days. Here in Florida everything can change on the water in a hurry. Going down means swimming with the alligators.
I am planning to do the same , Restore my older boat the way I want her instead of buying another one and save me some money, Thanks you have make me made up my mind.
I don’t have the time between work and boating to do a complete overhaul of a boat just to get it for a little less. And I sure as hell am not waiting months to years to complete it when I have a brand new boat with warranty on everything moving part. If this was the case more people would do it instead of letting them rot in their yards
@@jamesps7515 everyone sets their priorities in life. Not everyone enjoys the process or the time I get it. That's why mine is even more special to me!
Amazing job! I’m debating doing the same to my boat now I have an excellent hull. Grady White 257 advance 2004 Thing is, I also want to re-power which will be quite an expense I’m debating doing all the paint and rubber rail And then re-powering the boat Updating the cushions and Enclosure Anyway, great job on your vessel amazing!
did not watch the vid complete but when i was younger i used to buy older cars and spend some money on them to be reliable and this was better than gong into debt for a new car and i knew what i had, i did the same thing to an older boat and it turned out good, if you are handy and have fiends that can help i have seen many vids dealing with this type of actions and you are good for many years of problem free what ever
Great video. Thank you for the detailed explanation of your restoration, and sharing the people you worked with. You have a beautiful boat. Sorry about what happened to the truck at the ramp. Hope everything is ok.
Glad you enjoyed the vid. Everything with the truck turned out as good as it could. Nobody got hurt which was most important. Things happen, just sucks!
Awesome, Inspirational!Currently rebuilding my 1982 Wellcraft V20. So far replaced the transom with Seacast, stingers and bulkheads with Marine plywood using epoxy.
Watching this video gave me flashbacks , me and my father sold a 22’5 1985 mako we semi restored and now watching this makes me regret It. all we needed was to re-modernize the boat and repower.. miss that boat every single day, I love that you made it your way and exactly how you wanted it maybe to people you overpayed but the sentimental value of a boat owned by your father and you going out your way to keep it and make it your way tops it off. Props to you bro 👍👍
I was initially on the fence about restoring or getting something bigger. I didn’t want to regret selling it which is why I chose to restore. I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. No lie, with the mods I did I actually have more space than some of my friends 25-27 foot boats. It’s unreal how much sentimental value boats can have though. One would never think it, but there are so many memories attached
wow awesome boat restoration! plus its was you fathers which that alone make it even more valuable. I wish I had the money to do something like this so I can enjoy it with my kids. looking into buy an older mako and do the work my self... Cant say it enough... great boat man!!
I would definitely rebuild and repower, my Sportcraft when the time comes, there is something special about bringing life back to an older boat, car or motorcycle, great vid with good tips, thanks for posting..
Awesome rig. I'm rebuilding my 1999 striper. I'm probably not going to take it that far cause life goes, you know what I'm saying, and I fish hard. I'm a if a weight bangs the rig, I don't freak out, but great video on the family boat and appreciate it it keeps me motivated on my project.
The work done was impeccable with everything better than new out of the factory. You have your brand new boat with the family connection. Your boat looks fabulous.
Beautiful boat. I had a 1972 196 wish I hadn't sold it. Love aquasports they can handle some rough water. Yours has to be the nicest one I've ever seen 👍
Aqua sport are good, solid hulls. That is one beautiful restoration my friend, and you're 💯 right, in a lot of cases, a resto is a cheaper option then new, especially considering customizing it. I did a resto on my dads old 21 CC seaox. Love it. The old mercury 175 black max finally took a dump two years ago and i just slapped a brand new 200 Yamaha on it this year. Lots of work and money, but well worth it. Well done man.
Depends where you live. Sometimes rebuilding an older boat can cost double the price of a new boat. Around here it costs $1000 for an oil change so rebuilding an older boat is out of the question
The biggest selling point is to have it set how you like it and i have to say this im not hating just a counter point if i was to start with buying a hull that alone is 8-10k than lets say re engine with a 2020 etech 10-14k depending on power another 70 to set it up exactly like this you’re into the 80-100k range and alot of people i know i would have to finance that money you’re in the same range of what i spent on a brand new 2024 Yamaha 255 fsh where really the only thing that it doesn’t have that i wish it did is that upper helm other than that its all good but the boat is lookin good just a counter point and most people dont even know Yamaha makes center consoles
Nice job …i would add try to start with good hull that people want and also a size that would demand some greater resell value. Ie don’t spend 100k on a 18ft bay boat lol
Looks great bro! I’m in the Miami area looking to restore a 98 proline I got for 1k so it just makes sense to restore. This video gave me some motivation!
I chose to do all the work myself rather than watch so much TV. There really isn't much on TV anyway so... And I have the pride that I did some pretty awesome work for myself instead of some boss 😃. Mine is, uhh was a 1975 Aquasport 170 😊 A perfect boat for my kind of boating and fishing. 👍
I appreciate this video I live in pines. I recently purchased my father in laws 31 scarab. I don’t know shit about boating and been getting jacked by mechanics lol
Thanks brother. I love those mako hulls also. Would love to check out what you do with yours. And you are correct, boat prices are ridiculous right now. Cheapest quote I had for a new boat set up like mine was 184k…. Crazy!!
I have this same boat and I need those seats in the front where can I do that I live in Miami… you gave me so many ideas on what I can do on my boat thank you! Such a great video!
Glad I could give you some ideas. Check my description and contact JC at marine welding fabricators. He made the seats for me. They really are awesome and work great.
Restoring a boat is great but I have helped a couple mof my friends restore a couple of saltwater fishing boats and it is "HARD & EXPENSIVE" work and you need to know what you are doing!
naturally, you wouldn’t do this to a cheap hull. My family had an 22-2, 1972 vintage with twin 65 Johnson OB’s for power. Loved that boat. it was built like a rock. it was a good candidate for major rebuild/ upgrade. in fact the person who purchased it from us sunk about $10k (in 1980 dollars) and did some upgrading. the new owner (a friend of the family) also enclosed the transom and re powered with a 175 Yamaha on an Armstrong bracket. I was able to keep track of these upgrades over time because the new owner kept the Aquasport 22-2 in the same boathouse as us in a little town south of Houma, LA called Cocodrie. That Aqua-sport is probably still kicking today. I moved away from that area post Katrina. Cocodrie is not this sleepy little Cajun commercial fishing and oil service town anymore either.
It’s awesome that you’ve been able to keep track of the Aquasport throughout the years. And I totally agree with you in regards to not sinking a ton of money on a crappy hull. I chose to rebuild the hull cause like you said, it’s built like a rock. The ride I get as well as the fuel efficiency is excellent.
Right!?! It’s crazy how expensive boats have gotten. That’s what’s great about restoring. You can setup your vessel the way you want at a fraction of the cost. Restoring is by no means cheap, but you can get more for your money.
The fabricator that did my work recently did a 196 also. The owner of the boat added 4 feet to it. I didn’t think it was going to come out as awesome as it did. It was also a boat that was in their family for a long time. They didn’t want to get rid of it, but needed something bigger.
I had the hull and motor already. I’ve seen similar Aquasports to my original hull on the market with no motor for $3500-7,000, and similar motor in good shape and low hours for $3500-6,000.
Project took 13 months. I started this project in January 2021. At that time it was hard to get a lot of the parts I needed due to pandemic and difficulties of locating some parts needed. I also wasn’t in a rush since I also had my maverick to fish while the project was going on. I’m sure I could have completed in 6 months if I was to start this project today.
To be honest, not 100% sure you can find anybody these days that would finance a rebuild. You’d have to pull a loan elsewhere in order to complete the build.
$78k isn't bad for basically a new custom built boat with an older engine. That said, who's got $78k lying around? Far as I know, you can finance a nice boat, but you can't finance a project unless you start getting stupid with HELOCs and personal loans. $78k is getting close to the edge of what I'd consider foolish cash to spend on a depreciating asset when said cash could be in an investment where the return goes towards the payment of a boat. In the end, as long as your bills are paid, your family is fed, and you're happy with what you got, then it's a win. :)
I agree with you! 78k is not chump change to toss around. You have to actively save up for it or, like you mentioned, take out loans in order to get this done. That’s why I tried to mention cheaper options I could have done to save money. This boat definitely had a lot of sentimental value to me which is why I chose to spend the money on it. I’ve known the people that did the work on my boat for years. I’ve seen them do wonders to older boats at fractions of the cost of buying new boats.
Thats the good thing about restoring…You can spend as much or as little as you want, but still get a good end product. I spent what I did on this boat because it’s basically turned into a family heirloom. This aquasport has a lot of sentimental value to me and my fam. I had a new boat priced out to get this same setup and it would have cost me 184k.
Only reason I didn’t do twins was because of weight and space on the platform. The single gives me plenty of room to get up unobstructed when we go diving. Reel outlets are beeping installed in a couple of weeks 🤙
Not only do you have an awesome boat, the sentimental value of it being a boat that belonged to your father is incalculable. Fantastic job.
The boat is absolutely awesome brother. You did an awesome job! Great choices with everything you did. Beautiful boat.
Thanks! 👍

Glad the video helped. I’m sure your boat will come out looking great and set up the way you want it! Good luck with the restoration!
I'd never buy new when I can make a custom boat from an older proven hull. I think your build was very frugal price wise

Awesome build , that was alot of custom work!!!!
Thank you! It was a lot of custom work, but so worth it. Honestly didn’t imagine it was going to come out like this.

Beautiful work!
Thank you very much!
been thinking of doing this to a 196 or 200 osprey , but my local dealer got new clear water 2200cc for 55k-60k before fees depending on options
The fabricator that did my work recently did a 196 also. The owner of the boat added 4 feet to it. I didn’t think it was going to come out as awesome as it did. It was also a boat that was in their family for a long time. They didn’t want to get rid of it, but needed something bigger.
Great video; boat too!
Looks Awesome! Great job man
Thanks! Much appreciated
I own an 86 23-6 Mako and would never let it go for the new expensive junk they sell today.
Beautiful
Love it
What are your front lights?
In the bow?
Look up Hardin Marine. It’s their nav lights. They have black plastic and SS.
Great looking boat and well done! New subscriber!
Heck yea 😊
Wow watched the entire video was the 78k also including the boat hull and motor? Or just the work done to restore?
I had the hull and motor already.
I’ve seen similar Aquasports to my original hull on the market with no motor for $3500-7,000, and similar motor in good shape and low hours for $3500-6,000.
Damn what a gorgeous boat this is exactly what I would’ve done to a boat like this me and u got similar taste
Thank you! Glad you liked the boat
All I can say is wow
Thank you 🙏
I have a 1980 cat from Australia that I'm currently restoring. Anything is possible if you have the desire and want to do it.
100% true. Good luck with the restoration!!
IMO Should’ve been more frugal to make it sensible
How long was the build? From tear down to first day in the water?
Project took 13 months. I started this project in January 2021. At that time it was hard to get a lot of the parts I needed due to pandemic and difficulties of locating some parts needed. I also wasn’t in a rush since I also had my maverick to fish while the project was going on. I’m sure I could have completed in 6 months if I was to start this project today.
Thanks for the response…. Great build turned out chingon!!
Late go homey 🤙🍺
Did you ever replace your truck?
I did. I have a video posted of a walk around if you’d like to check out the new truck.
Smae I will restore an auction boat or build my own
Hey 10 grand for a boat, another 10 for a motor and 30 in fiber glass and the like and for 60k you get a lot of boat.
Now my question is can you finance a rebuild

That cushion work at twice the cost would still be a bargain.
I will never buy a new boat. I restored my 1st boat last winter and it's better then anything sold new.
Keep the family boat
We definitely are!

Siiiiiiick
Thanks brother
Extremely nice. You got a great deal on the cushion work

I mean, hey if you got it 💰 guess its not a thing
Thats the good thing about restoring…You can spend as much or as little as you want, but still get a good end product. I spent what I did on this boat because it’s basically turned into a family heirloom. This aquasport has a lot of sentimental value to me and my fam. I had a new boat priced out to get this same setup and it would have cost me 184k.
You could have gotten a new one for this price
I hate the intro and I won’t be subscribing, specifically because of that.
Sounds good. Thanks!
Beautiful but i would have put twins on it and electric reel outlets.
Only reason I didn’t do twins was because of weight and space on the platform. The single gives me plenty of room to get up unobstructed when we go diving.
Reel outlets are beeping installed in a couple of weeks 🤙
Ño! Thats nice!
