Another great video! About a year ago I purchased a 2016 Key West 239 FS. It was equipped with a Yamaha 250 SHO which had about 390 hours on it. The seller was great to work with; when I went to see the boat he gave me a thorough walkthrough pointing out all the issues that he was aware of. Most of them were very minor. Then we took the boat out for a sea trial. He didn't hesitate to let me have the local Key West dealer check over the boat, engine, electronics and trailer just to make sure there weren't any serious hidden problems. The only real issues (which had already been pointed out by the seller) were that the trailer hubs, brake calipers and surge coupler needed replacing. The seller had already accounted for that in his asking price, so that wasn't a huge concern. Long story short, I've had the boat for over a year now and couldn't be happier. I had the work done on the trailer so it's ready if I want to tow long distance. I also added an onboard two-bank charger/maintainer to keep the batteries ready to go while the boat is sitting on the trailer between outings. I just had my first annual maintenance done on the engine and it got a clean bill of health, which was what I expected since it's run like a top ever since I purchased the boat. We all know that any machine will eventually fail, but doing the things recommended in this video will give you your best shot at ensuring that there aren't any serious hidden problems when considering a used boat purchase.

If possible get a survey! For expensive diesels, also a separate survey for those including oil analysis. Check for rot in stringers and transom. Soft balsa core or wetness of core. When were manifolds/risers replaced? In salt water: Condition of wiring and tanks which is also very expensive repairs.

I am in the process of buying a boat and this video is the most helpful one I have watched. There are three points here I am up against. 1) I have never used the type of boat I am buying so I really need the guy to sea trial and show me everything on it so that I can see if it is working properly. Like the trim tabs and getting on plane etc. 2) I have never inspected an engine. Thru research I know I can now but I can't take someone with me because this boat is a deal and there is TONS of competition. 3) I am going to have to make a decision onsite because I will be the first one seeing it and the vultures are circling. It's awesome knowing that this is not unique to me and I can do it right if I just remain calm and figure it out. Haha.

@@justinbrooks8179 ive been scouring and seen some really nice boats for $33k-$39k but they get scooped up in a week or so. Didnt go look in person BUT they seemed quite well maintained.

Also, if you can buy a boat that was used in fresh water only is a consideration.

Ok I just retired and wishing to go offshore overnight fishing but be able to have family time on it too. Trailering is a most, less than 1 1/2 hours from beach. Any ideas, everyone has a center console but I need a head and a small sleeping area. Can you or others here point in a direction? Thank you so much
