Kozena is one of the most exquisite singers ever---but this is the first time I've been able to view her in an operatic performance---thanks much.. also great traditional direction and costuming.

This is so beautiful. Everything matches perfectly: music, stage, colours, costume, ethereal and "greater-than-life" bodily expressions. And Gluck's music here touches my spirit from its core. :)
Has there ever been a more moving depiction of an imagined afterlife, of an imagined other dimension of the dead, than the scene in the Elysian fields.Almost drives you over the edge with its mystery and beauty.?
@Da yan . f I can contribute to the extent of what I have understood , the main characters : : Orphee and Eurydice are married, one is dead and will be resurrected : "Eurydice va paraitre, renaitre", ... the most hauntingly beautiful part of it ... It is played by two women here ...

What could be total boredom, in the skillful hands of Bob Wilson, is a beautiful spectacle. Brilliant mise en scène, correct singers, without fanfare, great conduction by John Eliot Gardiner. HERE SUPERB GLUCK

It's amazing how well the Martha Graham-ish choreography and costuming fit this Baroque opera. Orphee moves as beautifully as s/he sings. And s/he has perfect diction, among other things.
What an extraordinary soprano is this Magdalena Kozena! She shows a musical and scenic dramatic, profound role, this time appearing as the divine Orpheus, - (son of Apollo and Clio, according to some traditions), in whose honor the Orphic Mysteries were developed. And what about Madeline Bender as Euridice. His haunting and lyrical soprano bright timbre is incomparable.
Good night!

"Out of this world" I have always considered this to be the most outstandingly beautiful performance.
Monteverdi Choir is the best and most versatile in the world today. Their repot ours must be amazing
To be honest, I don't understand a single word, but it is simply beautiful in every way! Great scenes, great music, and great performance!

If there's something after life... Take me to this spot then and I will bring Euridice back a live. Stunning in it's simplicity. Chapeau.

Leaves me speechless. The simplicity of the sets, costumes and movement totally in sync with the music.

D'accord...
Excellent, but not overcome: Gluck - Orfeo ed Euridice / Baker, Speiser, Gale, Leppard, Glyndebourne Opera
un enchantement
Magnifique !!

Cependant, i love most Monteverdi's optimism :) A little bit too tragic...

Good day everyone. What is the name of the aria which starts at 55.03? Any idea please?

Glad this was when Patricia Petitbon could still sing, then? I’ll watch, listen & see.

This is actually the Berlioz version, philologically performed. I like the 1774 tenor version far better.
