At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for seven MLF Championships and won roughly a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

    I like that ledge idea. I fish ledges alot- and tend to keep away from the face a little- steppin' it like that on little shelfs is definitely a solid deal. Yeah, I got a real-nice head I use for weeds& wood- owner ultrahead 1/16-3/8 w/ 1/0 offset forged hook. Then ballhead& standup. Quick question though; do you notice any lower hookup ratio on the screwheads? Ball or standup. I run both those too& have ripped tge screws outta the ballheads after missing a few key fish. standups i kept seems to rig better with em

    Great breakdown of when and where to use the different shaky head jigs. Been using ball head jigs for decades up here in the True North of Ontario. Haha. As mentioned in your last shaky head video I am fond of the VMC Rugby jig which is rigged texas style and is more of a hybrid between a ball and a football jig. Because it can be rigged weedless without a screw lock the hook up ratio is huge and when you set the hook they are pegged almost 99.99% in the roof of the mouth. My favourite Shaky head jig that can do it all.

  • @caseycherrington2812

    I like a1/4-3/8 screw lock with a flat bottom for anything deeper. And the 1/8-1/4oz B-Lat SMH jig head for shallower water.

    Very important info right there, I truly have never thought about shaky head “conditions”. I like the YUM shaky head, although quite hard to find at the moment, the jig head is almost like a Frankenstein of all 3 of the jigs you demonstrated. Plus it has a great pigtail keeper with a needlepoint starter.

    I really like using a shaky head in what little deep water we have around here. If you can find any sort of steep bank that levels off, not really a bluff because we don't have those here, but were the water gets deep fast. Sometimes the fish setup right where that bank and bottom meet up. It's one of the best places I know of to use a shaky head, especially a flat head. I'll also use it when I'm fishing alongside deep brush piles. If I can thread the needle and just skirt the outside of that brush pile, I can connect with some big 'uns!

    I have success with all of those shaky heads, but I’m trying to find more tungsten heads and it does make a difference to me. I love Dirty Jigs across the board, ask them for tungsten 😜🤔 great tips on the tight line with the ball head,it’s so much fun, I learned it on Kentucky lake long time ago and forgot about it lately 👍😜

    We should seen this video before I bought my shaky head lineup. Essentially I bought stand-up jigs in areas that I'm fishing that are totally broken rock in cover. Never even knew there was a difference. None the less, all my Shakey heads are Dirty Jigs. I have a bunch of the Scott Canterbury heads.

    I also use a football style head for rock and a slider head in clear water where I want the fall to be erratic.

  • @stoneysdead689

    I use round ball heads the most, and I fish rock mostly so i guess that's why I like them so much. I was shown to rig them up Texas rig style though instead of with an exposed point. Which bugged me at first because they have such a small bite, if you're using a thicker worm- there's not much left to stick the fish. But- because I use a lot of z man baits on my shaky heads, I didn't want to change to the screw keeper or any of that- that stuff doesn't play well with elaztech baits usually.
    So, I found two solutions- either use wide gap shaky heads- and they do make them, or just barely skin hook the head and rig it Texas rig style with the point buried in the worm. When I set the hook the head tears loose leaving plenty of gap to stick the fish. If I'm not using elaztech- then I'll go with the push on keepers- usually the Gambler Giggy head.

    Q. Was fishing this weekend and putting a lure on the line. No one talks about this but does it ever matter which side of the eye you put your line through first? Maybe over thinking this. Shaky head for example line in from the "top" or the "bottom"?

    My tournament partner went crazy a few years back. We learned a nc crankbait legend was using a shakey head as much or more than the crankbait. Then we found out he was using a stand-up 1/2oz. My partner went crazy he says its not a shakey head if its over 1/4oz and he said not a shakey head because its a stand-up style. I did agree I allways thought of a shakey head as 1/8oz but I didn't agree about the stand-up part. I can still get him wound up today about it

    Do you believe that the stand up type shakyhead lose more fish? I've heard a few pros say it does.
    I can't say I fished a lot of the stand-up type since I don't get to fish 300 days a year. However, I can't see the difference...What's your opinion?

    • @MattStefanFishing
      @MattStefanFishing  2 года назад +1

      No. I think the bait keeper is what loses more fish

    • @ballzybaits4414
      @ballzybaits4414 2 года назад

      @@MattStefanFishing Thatswhat I think also. Just wondering why they would say that. I mean we're able to catch fish with 1oz punching weights and 1/2oz football jigs, I don't see how a 3/8oz stand up shakyhead would pop a fish mouth open enough to miss a hook set.

    I am catching some decent smallmouth out of the Snake River (reservoirs) in Idaho, on a Carolina Rig. I feel like I need the weight to contact the rocks as part if the luring effect. However I am loosing a lot of set ups in the rocks. Mainly my weight is getting hung up and when I go to pop it out, my main line breaks. Any remedies for that? I have tried changing my main line from braid to co-Polymer yesterday and that was better. Perhaps I should try the Lindy no snag sinker but I like my weight and bead contacting the rocks. Thanks. I really enjoy your show every day.
