    Myself and two friends used to play this in our teens (1986-1990). Many many Saturdays spend playing until the early hours.

    CC7 and DD7 are seperate 1 story buildings. They have the small center dot, and they don't share a BLDG hexside, which would connect them. Great Vid!!!

      I agree wholeheartedly. I've just finished my first game using ASLSK, after trying and failing to learn using youtube and the first ed. rules last year, and this scenario is perfect for introducing many of the rules wrinkles not part of ASLSK. Great job.

    My advice - use some half squads, they're very handy in such situation.
    Very good job once again, it's a pleasure to watch these movies. Please do the ordnance and tanks scenarios too.

    Your videos are terrific; I can’t imagine the time it takes to produce them. Thank you.
    An error made in the German’s first Movement Phase (approx 16:00): you declared Assault Movement, then declared a smoke attempt and when the Assault Engineers in Y7 threw 5’s on their Smoke Placement attempts, you chose to not move them further.
    Unfortunately, once you declare Assault Movement, which must be done before expending any MFs, you cannot voluntarily choose to vacate the Assault Move declaration. So without a leader stacked with them, it was an “either/or” proposition: declare an Assault Move or throw smoke.
    Had the smoke attempt in the adjacent hex been successful, they couldn’t have Assault Moved without a leader (2 MF to throw adjacent Smoke + 2 to move into it = their full MF of 4; Assault Movement cannot use all of a squad’s MF).

    38:00 there is 16,5 FP, because it is assoult fire and enginers has 8 fp underscored (8/2 +1 FRU =5), 3 units with 5 + 1.5 MG FP = 16,5 with +3 TEM.

    The smoke had already been removed before the Russian DF, so the shot into the street is actually at -2 (and pretty lethal!)

    A really helpful series of videos!
    Just one point, at 1:34:37, the Russian stack in R5 firing on the German squad in T7 was at long range, and so could not have used Assault Fire (A:7.36).

    Its true that FT have a normal range of 1 but they can fire at 2 hexes long range half or 12 No TEM In this case half again for 6

  • @65Superhawk

    around 1:41 would there not have been a modifier for long range (sorry, just learning myself)

  • @strykerhalo

    Just a reminder, the first smoke deployment on the residual firepower, for each positive drm the column shifts down, smoke is a positive drm, you should of shifted down one column in placing residual. Positive modifiers are anyone cx, positive leaders, and positive hindrances. Just pointing out you need to shift when positive drms are there is all, lol.

    • @strykerhalo
      @strykerhalo 7 лет назад +1

      Im pretty sure the cx unit that was attack should have also had a +1 drm once he came under attack, so that would change the outcome DR as well.

    • @strykerhalo
      @strykerhalo 7 лет назад +1

      Also residual on them since they are positive drm would of shifted down as well. Just keep in mind positive drms cause shift.

    Love the videos. I find myself actually cringing/cheering for how fortune ebbs and flows. Regarding getting into the tractor works, you might have considered emp[oying Opportunity Fire for some of the would-be German invaders. Opp Fire allows you to take a full-strength shot (like with your FT, for example) at units from whom you've stripped ? during Prep and/or movement. Just a thought, certainly not a criticism. Let me know if I can be helpful regarding play, rules, what have you.

    • @CounterAttack

      Oh that's a great tip! I never really "got" op fire. Makes sense!

  • @davetye

    Ouch, I don't mean to sound harsh but the number of rules errors here is truly staggering. This might be partly due to filming at the same time and not having a real opponent. My advice would be to play much smaller scenarios until the rules become second nature and not worry about tactics at all while learning the mechanics. Reading chapter A over and over again may seem pretty dull but it's necessary to digest the subtle parts of each rule and not learn bad habits. On a positive note, the production quality is very high.

    In the Russian Prep Fire attack on the German engineers, the squad possesing the FT should deduct one from the IIFT reaolution roll. (A22.4) Wouldn't have made a difference in this case

    838 assaults fires for 5fp, not 4fp. broken leader = ptc, not mc (kia leader = mc). skulk germans, assault move out of range, advance back, no concealment loss. keep mgs on ground floor for fire lanes. set up russians 2 per location, ready for human wave. defend factory with ? units, always def fire and rotate with ? units inside. keep hmg/mg inside and murder anything that enters factory (only 1 tem). dont waste FT on 6fp shots. use DC/FT half squads to clear russian ?. pretty sure smoke only costs mf if success but maybe thats vehicle smoke dispenser. nice vid.

      @CounterAttack  7 лет назад

      Thanks for your corrections and comments, they are helpful. I skimmed through the infantry smoke rules and don't see anything about only successes costing MF. Thanks again.

    • @andrewfulara5584
      @andrewfulara5584 7 лет назад

      yes, i think that's just vehicle smoke. i don't use infantry smoke much, annoying that it disappears after movement. defender can just wait and nail you in final fire. infantry wp can be useful for striping ? though, probably more useful in pto. i think there should be ssr saying the 838s are assault engineers, that would make it more worthwhile trying for smoke. they are engineers after all, and the germans do need help in this scenario, i have never seen them win it. C is easier as you can use the stugs to keep the roads constantly smoked. I love scenarios a - e, always use them to introduce people to asl. hill 621 probably my all time fave. to fire or not to fire? i think always at adjacent enemy if +0 shot or better, as threat of cc is too much of a risk.

    And another question - when attacking a stack with a Leader, do you have to roll for the Leader first? I saw you do that several times in the video and I wondered whether it was because of a rule or because the Leader was just arranged on top of your stacks every time.
    Seems to me that if you can, in fact, choose the order in which you roll Morale in a stack, rolling for the Leader last is the better option - that way, all other units receive the Leader's Morale Bonus (not to mention, they don't have to risk a possible Leader Loss Check that would weaken them before you roll)

    • @CounterAttack
      @CounterAttack  8 лет назад +2

      +Omer Hertz You have to roll for leaders first, and in order of best to worst leader.

  • @alexfuller7186
    @alexfuller7186 8 лет назад +1

    Wouldn't the Leader-Loss Morale Check at 35:25 actually be a Leader-Loss Task Check? Honest question because I don't play ASL (yet), but I thought a LLMC was only caused by leader elimination and instead the LLTC was used for a breaking leader.

    • @CounterAttack

    For the purposes of determining distance from a Sniper to a hex (example: 1:14:30) - does a floor count as an extra hex? That is, if you have a stack on the first floor of a building and a stack on the ground floor of the same building, and there's a Sniper targeting that hex (because it is the closest to it after movement) - are both stacks within the same distance of the Sniper or is the stack on the ground floor considered 1-Hex closer (and thus, is the only target)?

    • @CounterAttack
      @CounterAttack  8 лет назад

      +Omer Hertz Floors do not affect the sniper distance. If there is more than one location in a hex, they are considered the same distance, and the sniper's owner gets to choose the target location (e.g. the floor).

    what camera are you using and is it on some kind of flexible mount?

    • @CounterAttack
      @CounterAttack  7 лет назад +1

      The camera is a Samsung HMX-W300. It's pretty simple and no frills. The mount is adjustable, but not flexible like those you see with the bendable legs. I believe it is the one on Amazon with the ridiculous name "Neewer Light Weight Adjustable Camera Table Top Monopod Stand Tripod Support Rig for DSLR".

    On your big Russian attacks you forgot to half some of the attacks twice once for Concealment and the next for long range on the 5-2-7
