  • VASL Replay of ASL 11 Defiance on Hill 30 with historical overview.
    It's a little longer than ASL 1, but hope to meet your needs.
    I apologize for the late video blur.

    Nice and informative. I've been playing ASL since it was SL, and I still got something useful out of this. Keep 'em coming.

    Yeeeeaaaaah! Pull the trigger on this SOB! The only thing I like more than playing ASL is watching it played. Nicely done Brother ASL. Thanks for the wonderful entertainment. We play with cardboard soldiers because they leave no cardboard widows and orphans. Peace forever but ASL forever.

    Thanks so much for posting these. Even though I can't claim to be a total noob any more, I still saw several things I forget about. I also find it interesting when you explain why you or your opponent took a certain course of action. Very creative U.S. defense. These are just all around great replays, and I hope you'll do more.

    Watched episode 1 yesterday and this one today. Very nice to get insight in the tactics you use! Keep up the great work!

    I bought ASL back in 97. Had a hard time finding people to play with and a very hard time figuring out the rules. I wish I would have had these videos back then. Now I have a better handle on it, hope to play it soon. Thanks for these... very fun to watch!

      Thanks for your thoughts Jeff. I'm glad you enjoy them. I'd like to think I make each one a bit better than the next but you just can't tell.
      There is a decent sized community online for ASL. VASL play has saved many a "career" of ASL.
      I hope to get more out as time permits.

    Stew, you just watched Jim B and me playing this on Vassal.... very inspirational video. We will compare the outcome when our match is done! To me a true classic scenario btw.

      Stews, one cool improvement would be to see the whole scenario card when you talk about the OB, SSR and stuff, we only see the top. Great videos! I can't wait for episode 6

      Yeah, I was wondering when comments would come in on that.
      The reason, potential copyright issues. I'm ignorant in the details if such but know that some ASLers have a Type A mentality wrt scenarios.
      All of the videos are for educational and entertainment purposes.

      yeah I understand. Although, I doubt that MMP would run after you for doing a learning video with one of their scenario... but I understand that you are being cautious. Maybe you can ask MMP? But no biggy.

    Very interesting and informative. This was the first ASL scenario I played, so many years ago. Great that you emphasized that the American at-start force must survive, not stand and die in place. And wow, can you see why more recent scenarios almost always have "Kindling is NA" as a standard SSR?

    • @StewsReplay
      @StewsReplay  9 лет назад +1

      David Olie
      Yeah,
      Some games would be ruined by Kindling... I'm thinking the speed of spreading should be slowed to forego the limitation. Maybe every game turn.
      Some astute players suggest that Kindling be NA unless allowed by SSR. But again... In this instance, setting the fire will likely cause the loss to the Kindling player making his game more difficult instead of easier as is the case in most other games that can channel forces via a HUGE wheatfield catching fire. I'm thinking Europe gets lots of rain.. make all the scenarios wet-2 or so...
      Just some random thoughts.

      A late reply, but the speed of spreading IS considerably slower than how you played. A flame doesn't create new flames, only blazes do that (but not on the same turn they themselves were created).
      You seemed to play correctly until 1:07:35 where flames start creating flames. :)
      That said, I personally like the kindling rule and am always sad when it's NA...

      It's possible the file was corrupt... sometimes it leaves things out like the HS that was near the end of the forest. Unit in R8 and Z6 were "invisible" LOL
      LOL its funny....they should just edit the kindling to be BY SSR only....just in case designers forget...LOL
      Thanks for the comment...I'll review.
      Yeah, considering this was the same time that the "invisible" units appeared. Its likely that those flames were blazes...considering we were doing it right...(imagine that :-) ) that's probably what happened.
      Thanks for the SHARP eye! Now I'll have to pop up the original file...

    Watched ghost again- great video. Re ASL rules...as a forester ( by profession) you can't burn ETO Deciduous woodlands...doesn't happen....soft wood, possibly, but I think the whole ASL kindling is wrong....glad they've phased it our ( along with crews abandoning their vehicles)

    • @StewsReplay
      @StewsReplay  2 года назад +1

      Abandoning the vehicles isn't the solution.
      They simply shouldn't be able to control. Have the same control properties as a SMC and that'll solve the ESB abandonment loophole for crews.
      Yeah kindling shouldn't be a thing at all unless by SSR, then it kinda gives it away. Or simply change the process/slow the spread.

    Are you playing vs Ritter in this scenario?

    • @StewsReplay
      @StewsReplay  4 года назад

      Derek? No, I did not play Ritter here. I haven't played him yet.
      My opponent was a newer player but had a really good grasp of the rules. I didn't really see any new player flaws in his play. Was a tough fight and very close. Especially when I burned up a building or 2. Lol

    Gerson, I looked up a you tube video describing CC. It seems to be dated as the video described YT as automatically creating a CC file.
    My video manager requests direct input from uploads, etc.
    Let me see what I can do.
    It'll take some time.
    It's a great suggestion. I just thought YT pit it on automatically.
    Thanks

      Gerson, interesting note on CC.
      My first episode has CC while the remainder do not.
      I don't know why. I can only speculate on file type uploaded. The first 3 should be the same file format. The latest file (episode 4) used a different capture program.

    • @StewsReplay
      @StewsReplay  9 лет назад +1

      Unless there is an automated CC option.
      This will not be done with this video at this time due to the length of the video.
      If you know of an easier option for CC, I'd be completely open to the option.
