The first officer told me some things about the plane and gave me a small metall model of the 747 that i still have in my collection. Untill today i remember this experience every time i am onboard a plane, and miss these good old times, but feel priveleged, that i can keep this experience in my childhood memories.

It wasn't full throttle. What happens is that while the plane descended in idle, putting down the gears and flap requires the pilot to increase thrust to maintain speed.
