      But the aircraft and how pilots and F/As are trained, at least in the West, and ATC, are a LOT safer. And security a lot better, though we make great fun of Homeland Security. A lot of hard lessons learned. It's the passengers. People behaved better on airplanes then, though I could tell you some stories! My eyes water at watching this. I grew up in the '70s, and during summer when I was being good (a rarity in those days), Dad would take me on PSA from SFO-LAX for the day and we would visit with his relatives. But we really went to go on the flight, because he knew I loved flying, and he knew that I knew that he loved flying. When we came home, we would both be in trouble with Mom (she knew as well though), but those were truly magical times. The 1970s and airline travel made Father & Son times the best, and I will always cherish those days.

    A 727 in the old Delta livery was one of the most visually pleasing planes ever. Back in the 1990's, on a flight from CVG to ATL, the pilot came on and gave a three minute tribute to the 727. He then lamented the fact that they couldn't fly the speeds that the plane was designed for. So at 29,000 feet he then went full throttle for about 30 seconds. It felt and sounded like doing the 1/4 mile in a muscle car. I shook his hand went we left the plane.

Worked for three different airlines on three different continents. I`ve also flown with a lot of airlines in this video all over the world. And most importantly, I was a part of an industry which especially in the years of this video everyone was family- irrespective of what uniform one wore or what ever logo was on the tail of the airline company one worked for. There was a special bond that existed amongst the colleagues in the airline industry where there was a feeling of care for one another. I surely miss those days.

      I understand completely. I flew for 25yrs before Covid19 ended my career in aviation. I have moved on now, but nothing compares to the bond that aviation people have (irrespective of Co.) for one another. Yes we were competitors, but no one ever shied away from helping others when their s*** had hit the fan. Everyone wanted to help without waiting to be asked. You didn't have to, but you wanted to. It's difficult to explain and understand, unless you have been there.

    The choral jingles were common for EVERYTHING in the 1970s and 1980s. Kind of a LA and Dallas based rebellion against the stripped down DDB/Carl Ally/Scali McCabe Sloves New York style of the 1960s into the early 1970s. (Though the AA 'doing what we do best' campaign originated with I believe DDB!) The best were done by Ron Hicklin with his group and the Bahler brothers...really sharp. What is kind of depressing is that the style of the spots (pilots, ground, F/As in service) became very routine.

      Musicals (films) were more common in those days, and if you are old enough to remember the Donny & Marie show, they always ended their show by singing together. Same with Captain & Tennille. Music was just more intertwined into television shows, and this often extended into commercials - particularly aviation commercials which invoke wistful images for the viewer about where they might wish to plan their next getaway.

    • @rvnx
      @rvnx Год назад +1

      It was great marketing though. You won't remember some generic shampoo commercial, but if an ad has a jingle that sticks with you and you can sing along to, that brand is burned into your mind.

I am glad I grew up in the 70’s & 80’s and worked in the business in the 80’s and 90’s the last of the best decades in America. I will only fly FC when I have to fly now and even that is shameful . @@mangos2888 3/4" tape cartridge, which was widely used in that day for client and file copies. Like a bigger version of a VHS or Betamax tape. 1" hi-band was a general broadcast standard. When these commercials were done, ad agencies were still shipping 16 millimeter film copies to stations and I'd believe that continued for another decade in places like Latin America! By the 1990s the US broadcast distribution started to be done electronically by satellite.
