I will always remember, because I worked there when I was 20. Our crew really enjoyed chowing down on the pizza pizza that people ordered then never showed up to pick up.
Especially considering the prices! Imagine going back in time to buy a few McDonald's Double Cheeseburgers. Then you could go forward in time to present day and scalp them for a profit. With the way prices are going you stand to make more money than arms dealers.
I am currently living in a assisted living facility .I am in covid quarantine 😢with just the kitchen food. 😊The only problem is I might eat my phone 😮. Thanks for a pleasant walk down memory lane.
@Magnumtostarelli The meat still probably had human flesh in it. Other than that, the biggest change was the people. Our brains were not affected by smartphones. People were more intelligent. We were around the silent generation. Listen to the way people spoke from 70 years ago. Go back further and it gets even better. There are video and audio interviews on RUclips of Civil War veterans. At that time they were in their 80s and 90s. On the internet you can read personal letters written by CW soldiers, some of whom were under the age of 18. It's incredible and sad just how dumbed down we have become as a collective. We're more "educated" than ever before. But the education is really about training the student to work for the systems that are owned and controlled by the 1%. Train to be a doctor or pharmacist so you can become a corporate pharmaceutical pusher. Train to become an engineer so you can work for Lockheed Martin. Train to become a schoolteacher so you can push Department of Education propaganda. Academia is the one percenters education system for the ninety-nice percenters. It keeps our minds trapped in their system. Since their system is tied to their banking system, people are coerced into remaining willfully ignorant and in denial.
What happened to commercial variety? We were told that advertising generates revenue. So why did corporations slowly phase out the mechanism that was guaranteed to make them more profitable? People say the internet changed everything. When's the last time you saw an add either on tv or the internet for Campbells Soup, Stove Top Stuffing, Bubble Yum Gum, Fruity Pebbles, McDonald's, Kraft anything, Domino's Pizza ad infinitum? It's almost as if the corporations don't have enough food production competitors around to justify spending money on commercials. We will usually consume their products whether they are advertised or not. They have us on their food grid. Hopefully the major shareholders of those corporations don't hate us. Otherwise they could theoretically slowly poison us and weaken our bloodlines.
@OofusTwillip Even worse for automated stores. Only one or two employees work alongside the machines. Now instead of ten jobs for humans they have two. The push for higher minimum wage will always lead to that outcome. As usual small businesses will be affected the most.
What happened to the variety of advertising? Why did corporations slowly phase out something that was guaranteed to generate revenue? It makes no sense. I don't even see much advertisement variety on the internet. If the internet were the culprit, then RUclips ads would have the same commercial variety as older generations of television commercials. When's the last time you saw an ad on tv or YT for Campbells Soup, Stove Top Stuffing, Bubble Yum Gum, Fruity Pebbles, McDonald's, Kraft anything, Domino's Pizza ad infinitum? All of those products still exist, just as they did 40 years ago when I was a lad.
Similar story here. Personally I think it was their signature curly fries that put Arby's on the map. The first time I heard about them was from someone my age praising the curly fries. That wasn't the only time someone my age spoke about the fries. I might have known about Arby's, but my family had never been until the '90s.
I ate at a Beefsteak Charlie's once. It was during a school trip and all of us had chicken since there were a lot of us and it was easier if the school ordered us the same thing. And omg, Friendly's. My grandma used to take me, my sister, and my cousins there all the time. I remember eating at Roy Rogers a few times. I liked their roast beef.
And it didn't feel like it was expensive. Some people say that fast-food has always been expensive. Technically they are correct. Making your own mashed potatoes is cheaper than buying it at KFC. However people didn't feel the expense as much as today. People are cutting back. Taco Bell will never have my business again, even if the economy improves or my income increases. It's actually cheaper to eat at local, traditional Mexican restaurants. More food for the dollar and it's better quality.
Now it's "Netflix and chill". That suggests two things to me: 1) Women are much easier than ever before and 2) Why there are so many babies born out of wedlock
The Bennigans in my old neighborhood went out of business because there were too many lawbreakers around, especially people of color. Not all of them, obviously, but more per capita than other races. Everything else around that place closed too, including an entire indoor shopping mall, along with the first Walmart Supercenter "Hyper-Mart". The same thing happened in literally every U.S. city. Whether Des Moines or L.A., the same thing has happened, always for the same reasons. That feels like premeditation by politicians in my opinion.
1:00 put Arby's on the map for my family. I remember my siblings and their friends going on and on about Arby's curly fries. 5-for-$5 will never be a thing again. Maybe 5-for-$30.
I still feel Carl's Jr. has the best tasting burgers out of today's fast food franchises... on that commercial, if it was made today, he would choose the burger over the girl or she would want the burger over the guy😆
I miss sizzlers ours closed in 02,.who doesn't miss the brown bag special..ugh 😢im nostalgic yet hungry lol...im lucky if I can get a dinner roll from golden chick for .75¢..its barely cheaper to eat at home lol .
It's much, much cheaper to eat at home. Compare the price of KFC to homemade. It's not even close. I bought a ten pound bag of potatoes for less than some of their "value meals" lol. Chicken is still dirt cheap. It barely cheaper to eat at home for people who eat fast food quality groceries. Highly processed premade and packaged foods are more expensive and unhealthier than fresh raw ingredients. Produce, animal protein, dairy, pasta, rice, beans.
That Cordon Bleu commercial captured my young mind. Aside from Taco Bells '80s Mexican Pizza ads, I never wanted a fast food item more. Hopefully we watched some of these commercials at the same time. That would mean we had a moment, like in a romantic comedy, but we're both men.
God damn I’m old. I remember all these ads. Still shocked at the price difference, what the hell happened. Now our food isn’t even real food, and it’s 3 times the price. I weep for the future
Corporations don't want to feed us anymore. That is why they keep decreasing the size and increasing the amount. Government will be there to install universal basic income. Basically we are serfs. The wrong opinion means a smaller portion. All of these memberships to places are preparing us for a social credit score. Saying the wrong thing on social media might lower your credit score enough to disqualify you from a McDonald's discount on their app. In China, the mode of transportation that people use it based on social credit score.
Of course you did, Jeff. You ate floor burger. I was there that day. You came inside with a buzzcut and holding a briefcase like that man from the "Falling Down" movie. Then you told several employees and customers to move back to Meheeco. Then you asked the pretty customer to show you her honkers. Yeah, we wiped your sammich on the floor.
Back when pizza actually looked liked it did in the commercials and tasted like it looked. They taste like unnatural cheese and the cardboard box it comes in now😩
It's a sea bug. People used to think of lobster, crab and shrimp as infestations. Somehow the people who control commerce managed to make people associate seafood with an edible luxury. Sometimes people fight over it at restaurants. Now the people who control commerce want us eating bugs, for our welfare of course.
Do you have a favorite 80's restaurant memory? Leave a comment below and let us know!
Time to make the donuts! 🍩
White Castles, McDonald’s and Wuv’s!
5 roast beef sandwiches for $5 at Arby's.
Most people don't remember when Little Caesars ALWAYS had two pizzas for one price. Hence the "pizza, pizza!" slogan.
I will always remember, because I worked there when I was 20. Our crew really enjoyed chowing down on the pizza pizza that people ordered then never showed up to pick up.

Thanks for the memories I’m 62 years old and I remember all of those commercials!!!
Stay gold mate.
I remember going to Arby's was a special treat when I was a kid from 1978-1988.(Age 3-13)
5 roast beef sandwiches for five dollars.🥲. I miss those days.
Roast beef and cheese potatoe cakes coke cherry pie mozzarella sticks for $5+tax
I say that every time I drive past one...
Those were great days

The arbyque saved my life when traveling across country
I think going to McDonalds for my birthday party was my best 80's memory. They use to do a good job back than.
Does McDonald's even serve Cake anymore. The last time I threw a party there was back in 2006.
How was it? What was different back then? Just curious.

I remember Carvel commercials all over TV back in my native DC/MD Metropolitan...😭never got to taste 1 once.
These prices of yesteryear are depressing me.
If you really want to feel depressed, look at what wages were like back then, and how little they've grown since then.
@OofusTwillip Even worse for automated stores. Only one or two employees work alongside the machines. Now instead of ten jobs for humans they have two. The push for higher minimum wage will always lead to that outcome. As usual small businesses will be affected the most.
No other time like the 80's. Love it!

I love how low budget and local the Carvel ads are. 😆
I don't remember seeing Arby's commercials growing up... I didn't know they existed until the early 1990s... I was born in 1980...

Flashback in the 80's
Advertising was so much better back then.

I miss Bob's Big Boy...
In Oklahoma we had kip's big boy
Well lookie what we have here. Looks like we got us a real life Nancy boy here. We don't take kindly to your Bob-lovin' types around here.
Those Arby's bbq sandwiches were absolutely amazing!!! And they were like $1.25

We had a few Big Boy restaurants in western Ohio where I grew up. Except they were Frisch's Big Boy.

Haha now I'm hungry for Arby's too bad they don't have the 5 for 5$ anymore that would still come in handy now more than ever
5 for 35$. Prices are so bad now that it's actually cheaper to eat at a local traditional Mexican place than Taco Bell.

5 roast beef sandwiches for 5 dollars!! Wow

And it actually felt like value. Fast food felt that way much of the time, even for regular consumers. Those days are gone.
What do you have the same company commercials in order? You really need to mix them up....
In Oklahoma our bib boy restaurants were kip's
Nice how they had a black kid eating fried chicken in one of the Bob's Big Boy commercial.
Well Arby’s is a good place to go eat even if it’s not a restaurant. Arby’s drinks are pretty cheap
Your mother is not an Arby's drink!
The 2 things I miss dearly are western bacon cheeseburger & apple pies from Jack n the box
Your colon doesn't miss them.
Back when you can get a big burger or sandwich for less than a dollar. Now future inflation will only get you one bread and some lettuce for $13.50 😢
