@John Gresham GRESHAM, I WENT BACK AND LISTENED TO WEATHER REPORT AGAIN, BECAUSE IT'S BEEN A WHILE SINCE I'VE LISTENED TO THEM. I LIED, WEATHER REPORT AND RETURN TO FOREVER WOULD BE AT THE TOP OF JAZZ FUSION, AND MAHAVISHU ORCHESTRA OR THE YELLOW JACKETS WOULD BE THIRD OR FOURTH. BUT DEFINITELY WEATHER REPORT WOULD BE NUMBER 1 OR 2.
I see all the praise for the guys - except Bob Mintzer. Not only can he wail on tenor and EWI, but he's a major composer and perhaps the best living arranger today. He plays tastefully here as usual..
this song is an anthem of my HS in the early 90s, most pop was crap and I turned to jazz and discovered these folks along the way, what a treat, wonderful
Every musician that has been in the Yellowjackets is a TOP NOTCH, WORLD-CLASS musician. The one constant in the Yellowjackets is Mr. Russ Ferrante. He is the glue for this band. Every other musician has been A CONTRIBUTION to the Yellowjackets musical legacy.
Yellowjackets are one of the best jazz bands that have ever existed. Will Kennedy is absolutely brilliant. Every band member is an amazing musician. Hey, Mintzer played with Jaco Pastorius. Red Sea simply shows the best of the best.
I have always loved this band. All you jazz snobs should just get a grip. This is jazz at it's very best. I love the way play 6/8 with such fluidity. Will is at the top of the list of my favorite drummers. The amazing music composition and keyboard work of Russell Ferrante (Russ I'd love a Master's Class with you!), dangerous Jimmy Haslip and of course the delightfully imaginative Bob Mintzer. I would love to seem them at the next SXSW!!
I haven't listened to the yellowjackets in so long. More real and great MUSIC. My brother who's a jazz affecionado introduced me to them back in the 70s. They we're and still is awesome!!!!
Love the Yellow Jackets for many years. can't get enough of it...jazz- rock/fusion music... underestimated music still! Also particularly love Will Kennedy.. His "finger print" is so exceptional..
This is smooth and a bit abstract. Major and minor sounds but a beautiful flow of music. I loved the Yellowjacket's back then and even today. They were in a class by themselves. "Homecoming" was my fav cut. Yesssss!!
This made my day! What a clever group...They're music is in a league of it's own. Will kennedy's approach in my opinion is for the intellect, and his technique is so fluent...
The family that plays together stays together. Such a remarkable group of players that never gave into the status quo after all these years.I can count on one finger the groups that have accomplished this amazing feat of longevity. The one and only Yellow Jackets!
One of my all-time favorite groups... and yes, Jimmy is "paying out" the changes like no one ever could for Yellowjackets... Bobby, Russell, and Will are among the best of the best as well
I am a big fan and this Yellowjackets version is one of their great improvisations of a familiar composition in their repertoire. Few bands have played at a higher level than this.
Well said. They are both great musicians in their own right. Just because you like someone elses style better doesn't dismiss the others talent. I have complete respect for both and learn from both.
Red Sea is one of the best Jazz tune of all time. It is a perfect composition and the one of this gig is a version that YJ cannot improve, in my humble opinion. Something hard to match by other ensembles in the future... but... let's see!
The thing that this band have been existing for 40 years by now while I will hit 30 this year but haven't known about Yellowjackets till today bothers me a bit. It's like living for 30 years without knowing that cats exist.
wawwwww!!!yellows jackets nos dan pauta de lo es el jazz, su armonia, globalidad y genialidad de Rusell, Bob, Jimmy & Marcus. Distinto es hacer jazz con electronica! y uds. lo hacen genial! Cheers from Chile.-
Just discovered RIGHT NOW one of my favourite drummers is back where he belongs with the Yellowjackets. Unbelievable!! After he left something WAS missing from the Jackets delivery. Baylor brought his own thing to the table and he's a terrific drummer but they sadly missed that POCKET Will has. Some drummers leave a band and no matter what cat replaces him they'll never be as good or better. That was the case with the Jackets. I tried and tried but had to abandon them...now I;m back, baby!!!!!
Jimmy Haslip was, like, 59, and there is nary a gray hair on his head! It's all about that 6 string bass, I guess. Why do people have to get old? These guys are my favorite band EVER.
Will Kennedy RULES!
You got that right!
I began enjoying the YellowJackets in the mid-80's. 'Red Sea' is their signature piece for me.
Best fusion group, period.
There are so many. Steps Ahead and Return to Forever come to mind, But the jackets always are challenging and happy sounding.

AMEN
William Kennedy is a drum GOD
Stupendous performance.
I see all the praise for the guys - except Bob Mintzer. Not only can he wail on tenor and EWI, but he's a major composer and perhaps the best living arranger today. He plays tastefully here as usual..

I identify with this so much it hurts
SWEET!!!!!
Best version..listen to it many many times
That drummer 👌🏻
Lots of neurons in these brains!
This is why these guys are some of my favorite musicians!! 6/8 time signature & Will Kennedy.....the perfect musical marriage!!
Nasty
Yellowjackets are one of the best jazz bands that have ever existed. Will Kennedy is absolutely brilliant. Every band member is an amazing musician. Hey, Mintzer played with Jaco Pastorius. Red Sea simply shows the best of the best.
4 brilliant men, each one knows when to go and when to lay back. Pay attention, this doesn't happen very often
These gentlemen are the only 4 that should EVER perform/play this composition....PERIOD!
Jimmy Haslip at 6:43.....amazing
Will Kennedy unbelievable as ever!
There they are at the absolute height of their powers with Haslip and Kennedy holding the fort
the most singing drum solo i’ve ever seen.
It really just doesn't get any better than this...
SUCH AN INSANE GOOD DRUMMER!
Yellowjackets are like a Patek Swiss watch. They are amazing. For almost forty years of innovation
The piano solo is pure genious

Le chorus de Mintzer est génial.
Musicians meshing together…. True perfection.
Russel's phrasing is the best!
And his compositions! Always challenging and HAPPY!
Heard this song last night at Birdland in NY and the interplay between Will and Russell was a story by itself and Felix was holding it down
I haven't listened to the yellowjackets in so long. More real and great MUSIC. My brother who's a jazz affecionado introduced me to them back in the 70s. They we're and still is awesome!!!!
Will is a incredibly tasteful drummer. I know William's style was the my favorite from the first time I heard him. Thanks for all the dynamic drumming
Can't get this music out of my head. This is what music must sound like all the time in heaven.
this solo by bob mintzer is by far the greatest demonstration of soloing. his placement is unmatched !!
This song is amazing. Will Kennedy all the way!!!
Jackets!!!! So glad Will Kennedy is back!!
Dream land ! nice melody and nice rhythm. thank you.
Love the Yellow Jackets for many years. can't get enough of it...jazz- rock/fusion music... underestimated music still! Also particularly love Will Kennedy.. His "finger print" is so exceptional..
Damn Will Kennedy What A bad ASS!
I saw these kats in concert with Mark Russo on Alto Sax in the 80's. I was on the edge of my seat the whole concert!
Their melodies are out of this world.
If you are Not Moved by this performance, you just dont Understand Music! Incredible Dynamics, Execution, Excitement
it doesnt get any better.
+Rick Denson Absolutely incredible music!!! :D
agree 100%.... some of the best music every written and performed on this planet.
@@bradallmand2841 And Jim had to go and retire
some of the best musicians and music ever written and played.
This is smooth and a bit abstract. Major and minor sounds but a beautiful flow of music. I loved the Yellowjacket's back then and even today. They were in a class by themselves. "Homecoming" was my fav cut. Yesssss!!
I have yo say this: No other group did the 80-90s, hell, even till now like the Yellowjackets! And I love a lot of great groups!
One of the best piano solo's I've ever heard...Just perfect.
This made my day! What a clever group...They're music is in a league of it's own. Will kennedy's approach in my opinion is for the intellect, and his technique is so fluent...

One of the best drummers of all time. His fire and right-left crossing (body and brain)
influence his unique awesomeness...
Wow, everyone is so freaking ON!!!!!! Whoa!!!!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!
Brilliant performances . . . . Mintzer on the AKAI EWI is beyond measure.
William Kennedy on point with the heart and soul of the whole elaborate operation brilliant
Couldn't have described it better myself, man. "Flow" indeed!
