    I have an 02-03 5PW R1 and i have removed the fork bottoms, the grub screw was actually the worst part. I needed to drill them out but didn't and snapped a torx inside it and ruined the bottom, had to replace them after finding a set luckily. Unscrewing the stanchion was piss easy, plenty heat on the bottom and using a fork clamp tool in the holes, undid the stanchion like it was brand new and not even loctite touched!.

  • @munter10
    @munter10 2 часа назад

    Ok, the key to removing the stanchions from the lower castings is HEAT.
    You’ve got to melt the loctite on the threaded portion, also holding the stanchion firmly is fun too, there are a few methods you can use, but Jim will know exactly how to go about this.
    Not his first rodeo 😂

    Those Chinese rads are surprisingly well built, dimensions are not always perfect but very close, close enough for there to be no installation issues. I fitted one to my ZX9r in 2023 when I done head gasket valve clearances etc as the original had seen better days.

    Hi I have been working in engine test labs since the 80s and while silicone hoses look good when first fitted and the kits are competitively priced I would avoid them as they seem to deteriorate quite quickly like 2 or three years. I have found that OEM hoses last the longest and are less likely to fail my gpz900r still has two of the original hoses in good condition and still supple not hard or floppy.
    Any way crack on its your show and your choice keep up the good work

      Heat up the lower castings at the threaded area to 100deg C for a few minutes. ( this is why Jim is going to cerakote the castings)
      Weld a flat plate to either side of the chromed tube and hold firmly in a large vice.
      Use a 1 meter or longer length of steel tube placed through the axle hole of the lower casting and proceed to unscrew the lower piece.
      Easy as that, done it many times with no problems.

    I am more used to larger engines,
    Dose this yamaha have wet iron liners or dry liners because if it has had water without a corrosion inhibitor the liners could have suffered badly.
    I assume these questions because I don't know and your awnsers will be informative to us minions

    No Coolant, means NO ethylene Glycol. In which is understandable for a race bike, as you don,t want Glycol spillage on the track.
    I have heard that race bikes drain their coolant(water) after use and refilled b4 the next race.
