From a business perspective, perhaps keep one expensive toy, but then to be investing in replacing the very dated workshop machinery, which at the end of the day, pays your wages and rent.
Lee it good to see the lad using the torque wrench the correct way i was shown 45 years ago by motor engineer, a lot of people use this tool incorrectly well dune sun .......
Isaac is 100% right. You don't use the kit car enough to justify keeping it. Furthermore you lead a lifestyle that offers limited opportunities to go out and enjoy the experience whilst running the risk of bad weather or unfavourable track conditions. If you could find a structurally sound Civic you can do all the mechanical stuff yourselves with good parts availability and lots of user content information.
Noticed that the volume has gone down considerably since the new Camera has been in use ... Maybe some settings need adjusting ? Also, I'm getting whiplash from the wild swinging around of the camera when Lee is the Cameraman ... !
Isaac dont let him do anymore videos, he has a knack of waving the camera around like a chequered flag lol. Type R Honda is what someone uses around Swindon area as a Learner drivers car and going by the video showing it at REPerformance of it its a nuts car to learn in, look forward to that one
Where does the Escort van fit in a performance sense? Sorry, but an Escort van really is ‘grey porridge’ from any performance standpoint, as far as I can see. Your current Transit will look and go better.
I had a similar kit car. At the start I used it as a daily driver in good weather. Upgraded to an LET engine and used it a lot less as not as easy to drive. Always good fun on track but very little cruising done. If wet it was outright dangerous. Like yourselves I used it less and less so got rid. Someone else is getting lots of fun out of it during any good weather periods. I missed it to start with but I rarely think of it now and I’m not tempted to start over again. Good luck to you all and wish you every success in the future.
The kit car is not comfortable in the cold and wet and if you have an on-track incident, you're putting your life in peril. Not only that, but you have a greater chance of being hurt on the roadway. If I had money, I'd think about buying Isaac that grey van for his daily and let him cash out of that horrible BMW and sadly, that Subaru, as well. A Honda Civic R could well be a lot of smiles and I know of a capable engineering fellow(s) who can keep it running. I had an opportunity to drive a CRX when they were new and my goodness, it was a little rocket ship!
The kit car and the E30, yes great, they compliment each other, but a Civic and the E30 I dont understand. As soon as the sun comes out, you'll regret it. Also, it doesn't make sense from a business perspective. The kit car and the E30 are 'specials', so they are what they are, but a Civic type R is a Civic type R, so the Barum Engines one better be the fastest Civic on the track. If not, it could actually have a negative effect on the business!
Good idea. Concentrate only only one project at once. For 2025, forget abut the Honda play car. Instead invest in finishing the workshop improvements, then investing in some new revenue generating equipment. ie you could start to balance V8 cranks inhouse, or get a CNC machine so you can start producing custom parts for Cossie engines.
Nothing is guaranteed work wise, even though you are specialists and excellent at what you do. Interest rate hikes and market crashes are always a worry. They have effects on business. Keep your liquidity as high as possible. That way, the squeaky bum moments are kept to a minimum. Also, like a previous comment, investing in newer machinery is important. All the best to you guys at Barum for 2025. Thanks for all the videos in '24.
Does John have any say in this? He is a partner in the business after all. These two make some snidey remarks about him occasionally. When he retires, they will be stuffed for crankshaft work.
Nothing wrong with an EV personal car as long as you can lease it instead of buying it, and that you have a charger fitted at home and at work ideally too. Regarding the kit car, you really need to finish the development and get the prop and the clutch sorted either way. You've barely driven it with the 160bhp blackbird engine, and it must make a huge difference to the performance and feel of it on track. Id keep it and just trailer it to and from track days. It'll be 100x more fun than a Honda FN2 Civic. Also if you did end up with a spaceship Honda instead of the kit car, then it wouldn't look right for Barum engines unless you wrapped it in corporate orange. I get why you like the idea of a standard relatively reliable road car for track days, but it would be a world of boring and dullness after the kit car with a powerful bike engine. If you d go this route though, i would look at anything suitable or track day prepared and not limit yourself to a single model. The Clio 172, MGZR, Fiesta ST etc would all do the same job if you decide to sell the kit car. Im not sure that the sports transit is a better delivery van and parts chaser than the small van is though personally.
FN2 has a lovely induction noise, Had an EP3 and was epic, EP3 has better suspension setup from factory, if you are going to change anyway wont matter.
Unless you plan to store the kit car in the outside storage container, it's really wasting a vital space in the shop. You might as well do away with the lift with that vehicle occupying that as a storage space instead of being used to fix your other vehicles, OR build a mezzanine platform you can raise and lower on the lift to store any work that's 2 or 3 weeks away in terms of ordered parts arriving... A flat, giant size, beam reinforced pallet of sorts that motors can be stored upon in those poly bins so they can stack one or two deep, each in a bunch of paired up colors so ALL the parts fit in one obvious color coded place ? Those things nest together if only one is needed...Imagine if you could get 10 of hose in process motors off the floor, but still readily accessible with lift.
"build a mezzanine platform you can raise and lower on the lift to store any work that's 2 or 3 weeks away in terms of ordered parts arriving... ' Good idea. Sell the kit car and invest in a small electric fork truck, that you can use to move heavy parts around, and to use when storing pallets up on a new mezzanine floor. Your local engineering/welding shop should be able to prefab a bolt together mezzanine floor for you. See: ruclips.net/video/1Qqc7N1ZfJU/видео.html. AND: ruclips.net/video/g_BCVf0HSEo/видео.html

Ive had a few sports cars, two Caterham's, and Kit cars, last one a homebuilt Locost, and built by me! i will never own a car like this again, what a palaver, track days and a few sunday blasts yes, but apart from that they are a PITA, and on the track, ive often wondered about what would happen if i rolled it, mm, not a good end to the day!
There was a chap up the road here in Capetown South Africa who used to make the chassis for 7 replicas, he made about 23 or so cars over the years and I was really keen to get one, they were very good. The problem was there weren't enough of them racing to make a dedicated category for them so you were on track with some pretty hot saloon cars too and the little 7s just looked too vulnerable, then one day one of these saloon cars ended up on top of one of the 7s, I was next on the scene and thought oh no, it looked really bad but fortunately the driver was okay, however I shelved my plans to get one after seeing that. I think it would be okay if it was a full field of 7s and I believe you do have that in England, but sharing the track with that big metal stuff doesn't seem like a good idea to me.
The incentives for EV's are good now, however the government "makes" 35 billion each year through fuel tax sales and VED, when there is no more fuel consuming vehicles on the road who is this cost going to be passed onto?
"when there is no more fuel consuming vehicles on the road who is this cost going to be passed onto:. New Zealand has just introduced a road tax for EVs to help fund road maintenance.

I've been involved in running Honda race cars for 20 plus years We have 2 K20A powered vehicle's at the moment. The engine s are standard other than been remapped. The only problem with the K20A is the sump is a big bath. To make them reliable pull the sump off and fit a baffles in the sump, then it will be reliable
Chatting to Isaac while he is torqueing stuff up is a bad idea, Torqueing component's up needs maximum concentration in my experience as a vehicle tech.
Don’t get a Honda track car…. get the dodgy customer who left you with that tuned K-Series 1.8 to give you his MG ZR or whatever as part settlement and build that ! 😅
Not for everyone; lease it, buisness and mainly business use owners can get good tax breaks, and if they can charge at work and home (they have a garage/drive) and do mainly short journeys they can make great sense…. For most of the general public, I agree they are at best a big risk from depreciation, if you don’t have a drive or garage they are a head ache and inconvenience.
You will not regret a Civic. I've had mine since '08, and it is still amazing. Supposedly 0-60 in 7.1 sec, and the top speed of 231mph. And if one still craves open air, the US spec came with a sunroof. And it revs--and revs. When the VTEC kicks in it feels turbocharged. Enjoy.

Why not get one project finished before starting on any more
What’s the deal with the jerky camera guys
How many toys do you need. Spend the money on new equipment.
Yeah, it's too wet in that part of the UK for an open car.
Remember, show us the job, not each other.

And a mk1 escort van
Yes for a Civic the vtec sound 😊

What happened to the Subaru that Issac was doing
Great idea about the kit car.
Time to move it on .
Incidentally why hasn't Issac got any safety shoes on ?
slow down the camera movement (again)
EP3 is a nicer track car than a FN2 due to the IRS vs beam rear end.
Clockwise motion baffles are recommended for any fast road or track K series
