Definitely needs checking out. As it’s an old wash bay it might be where the old floor drain was and it has been capped off. Last thing you wanna do it place your container and deck it out only for someone to come along and say ‘we need access to that cover mate’ lol
As somone has already pointed out about the steel cover with the fresh concrete dose that need access if so might be wise to measure up and cut an access panel in the base of the container
Lee are you taking the hiss .We need to hear the induction ROAR of the 45DCOE's make it sound like the Roger Clark Mk11 Cossack car. Everyone will turn round when they hear that engine. Isaac will agree when he hears it.
All looking good lads, speaking of John, how are you future proofing for when John is gone on the Head side of the business, you going to get another apprentice to learn or is the young fella going to do it?
Steve Morris Engines did a video today that mentioned the cast in liners, and he wasn't sure how they were done. He comes from the high performance aftermarket side of things, so generally doesn't deal with OE blocks.
Might be worth cutting a section of the wall out, so a standard container could go a foot or so further back! Will you be painting it with the Barum Engines Logo.
You can get the same power out of carbs, but only if you use 3D mapped electronic ignition. With a normal distributor, you can only optimise at a specific rpm. My 1st 4 cars were Alfas, all with either Weber or Dellorto, so I'm a fan. The other problem is finding someone who can jet them correctly for a modified engine - its a dying art.
Hi Do consider if you would prefer a high cube vs regular 20ft container - an extra 4 cubic metres of storage in the same footprint - they are 300mm taller
Don't forget if you are going to use a type 9 gearbox you will need to cut out and replace the tunnel section around the gearstick aperture as the original MK2 Escort tunnel above the gearbox is smaller and the Pinto/BDA etc will push the gearbox up a bit and it will foul against the floor. Burton used to sell the metal panel, I didn't with my MK2 van as I just hammered the floor up until it fitted without fouling using a Pinto and a Sierra 5 speed box and had to have the prop remade as well if memory serves me right.. I also upgraded the diff from its standard 1300 one to a 1600 Salisbury diff axle. I still think you should buy from Ford a crated 4.0 Cologne V6, Ford still make the 2.3 Pinto aka Lima available crated and that can take a turbo or if you want insane power find a cheap Scorpio Ultima 2.9 Cosworth and put the engine and box into the Escort, that would beat a BDA into the mud being a 32v Cossie built engine and a very smart computer driven gearbox which in sport mode is extremely energetic and an insane top end too. One of my dream builds would be a MK1 Transit slidey doors Belgian tail lift with a Scorpio Ultima engine and box and a V12 Jag back axle and of course fandango wide wheels and lary paint scheme... one day maybe :D
Container. Can your supplier provide a container that has side doors. Then you can rotate the container by 90 degrees, so it does not obstruct the manhole cover?
Do you do 10 Ford eco boosts ? . Just asking thinking of getting one rebuilt- checked out as I have a spare one. Customer just decided to put a near new one in,any think to be aware off when doing one ? any suggestions thoughts would be great thanks.
Don’t forget Keith Duckworth did the racing lotus cortina engines Basically he got them to perform right and win as they way they were wasn’t happening Keith met Mike Costin at Lotus so that engine is fairly instrumental in ford terms . I’m suprised they ain’t double the price
HOPE YOU mark out for that manhole/ inspection cover in the container as sods law says as soon as you install the container over it you will need to have access to it what ever its for
You properly know this, the container would be best placed on the righthand side of the bricked in area so to give better access to your building. Good idea about cutting a hole in the container floor should you need to get access to the drain cover.
Im shure you do but i dont recall seing dust covers over part built engines. I love people who lighten flywheels For road cars they can get from idle to revlimiter faster with worse driveabillity
Carb setup and constant maintenance can be a bit troubling if your an expert and if you don't have a lot of experience a nightmare. Getting them jetted properly through the RPM / LOAD range is not easy, and if you drive at different elevations and in different weather conditions that also has an effect on the carb tuning. Fuel injection is far simpler and more precise with having an ECU monitoring instruments and adjusting the fuel ratio. Some of the aftermarket performance ECUs allow you to jack in a laptop and monitor / adjust things as well. I would opt for one of those systems.
Hi in my personal opinion it's carbs all day long but it's your baby you have to weigh up the pros n cons carbs look best and cost more and are harder to set up properly and require more maintenance vs Injection cheaper to purchase and easier to setup with less maintenance and once set won't need any resetting but as said its your baby. Is this going on the road or a classic race car
The second story deck is coming along nicely. It will be great when it's finished. Lee will be able to sneak up there and throw water balloons down on top of customers, John, and Isaac.
The luddite in me says go for the Webers, but the sensible side of me asks if you do have the knowledge, or access to the knowledge to set them up correctly?
Container Placement: With the Landlord's agreement, knock down the back wall (only and to the width necessary) then push the Container back several feet ... ??? That saves obstructing your entrance at all. Shouldn't be too difficult to knock down a low wall like that. When you previously mentioned the relative costs of a standard Container versus a bespoke one, plus there are other integrity benefits, it seemed to me a no-brainer to stick with the standard sizing. Painted White it should be cooler in Summer, plus be visually less obtrusive, also colour-matching your shutter door ...
Throttle bodies… easier to start in all weathers and temps, better low speed running… just more tuneable. Sound will be very similar. Tuning cards is a dying art and you will struggle to find someone to do it well.
Guys, lose that irritating guitar intro please? Other bigger channels are doing this, because it isn't TV, it's RUclips. Us viewers don't need intros, at best a logo, but no more. Thanks for great content, keep up the good work!
if access to the drain cover is needed you could always cut an access hole in the floor of the container and bolt a piece of 6mm plate over it.
Just going to suggest that 2
Im old school lol so a lovely pair of Weber's for me and sound lovely too😁
Old school ford got to have big old set of sidedraft webbers
A pair of twin forty Webber's would sound beautiful
Motorcraft single choke
48 delorto
How about the heritage fuel injected carbs? So it looks like a set of 45s but actually fuel injected
With all the excitement and enthusiasm for the workshop upgrades, I am expecting to see a gym area, jacuzzi and bar soon ... ! 🤣
a pair of 45 dcoe's gets my vote
You can’t beat the induction sounds of a pair of 45’s.
You could knock the back wall of the wash bay and overhang the container that way to bring it flush with the workshop end.
The BDA is a great little engine the only pain is setting the valve clearances using the shims!
webcon throttle bodies for the win, they look like webers but spot on fueling
Where the metal storage cabin is going, what is under the metal cover with new looking concrete surrounding it ?
Will access be required.

I would go with throttle bodies as it would make the engine more flexible with tuning for different use's
Looking forward to you getting the back of the workshop up to front standard! Professional appearance good for customers and mindset!😊
Good your going for the 20ft you could remove a bit of the wall to get it back more and cut a hole in the floor if access is needed to the drain.
On the BDA, the best of both worlds, go with the Jenvey Heritage DCOE Webber style throttle bodies. They look and sound great and are ultra reliable.
@11:04 What about that drain cover which looks like it will end up underneath the container?
As somone has already pointed out about the steel cover with the fresh concrete dose that need access if so might be wise to measure up and cut an access panel in the base of the container
Make sure you have good ventilation in the container. Continuous running vent fan and a cross flow from one end to the other.
Lee are you taking the hiss .We need to hear the induction ROAR of the 45DCOE's make it sound like the Roger Clark Mk11 Cossack car.
Everyone will turn round when they hear that engine. Isaac will agree when he hears it.
Cant wait to see the BDA build !!
Go with the Webber lookalike fuel injection. Will sound sweet
Make sure you don't put the container over that manhole cover
Well if ya cover it is it even there
... or just make sure there is an access hole/plate ?
All looking good lads, speaking of John, how are you future proofing for when John is gone on the Head side of the business, you going to get another apprentice to learn or is the young fella going to do it?

Cut a neat section through the low wall it’ll over hang no probs.
20 ft container, what about the access cover? is it something that someone needs to open if so, move the container??
Jenvey TB's for the win, kinda old school look but more modern control.
Do you do 10 Ford eco boosts ? . Just asking thinking of getting one rebuilt- checked out as I have a spare one. Customer just decided to put a near new one in,any think to be aware off when doing one ? any suggestions thoughts would be great thanks.
Well tuned DCOE's run just as well as a set of TB's , advantage of TB's is cold start / running
Monday's video on Tuesday in the UK, is Monday's video on Wednesday in NZ. Love what you do.
Thortel body's I'm with you guys no brainer

Hi. Could you look at increasing the volumes pls? The recent videos over the last 4-5 weeks have been really quiet
What about the small man hole and cover? It's hopefully not going to be covered up by the container. Check and see what's underneath it?
Im shure you do but i dont recall seing dust covers over part built engines.
I love people who lighten flywheels
For road cars they can get from idle to revlimiter faster with worse driveabillity
As an old engine nut carbs, but modern lookalike throttle bodies would make sense. Common name for modern Minis is BINI (BMW Mini!)
A carb setup would be fantastic... but injection and a throttle body make a lot of sense.
Can't beat the sound of carbs
Music to ones ears.
Side or down draft byno.👍
A pair of webber 45’s imo 👍
I seem to recall PPC making throttle bodies out of some old DCOE carbs.
Would look kinda period, with the advantages of injection
ive seen them on GT40 replicas , very tidy conversion you could barely tell
Carb setup and constant maintenance can be a bit troubling if your an expert and if you don't have a lot of experience a nightmare. What about covering the drain cover?
How about old school Cosworth slide throttles with modern management?
Hi in my personal opinion it's carbs all day long but it's your baby you have to weigh up the pros n cons carbs look best and cost more and are harder to set up properly and require more maintenance vs Injection cheaper to purchase and easier to setup with less maintenance and once set won't need any resetting but as said its your baby. Jenvy make a DCOE weber thats fuel injected but looks like an old school weber.
Old is gold Mk2 rocks
Big cards every time
Jenvey’s all day long guys. Carb tuning is a pain in the bum 😊
it's not Mondays video on Tuesday, it's this week's special edition
The second story deck is coming along nicely. It will be great when it's finished. Lee will be able to sneak up there and throw water balloons down on top of customers, John, and Isaac.
take down the small wall at the back of where the container is going to stand....should give some more space...;-)
throttle bodies and a standalone ECU
FTW
No stem seals on a TC...Go heritage throttle bodies
Just get the Jenvy throttle bodies.
A set of massive flat side carbs
Perhaps the volume has changed because the guys need to change the batteries in the lav mics?
Pair of 45's PLEASE
Mk2 has to be Weber carbs, loads of induction noise.
Like said before dont cover the drain top, when full it will weight two or three times what it was empty and you have no chance of moving it
Make it a BDX, 2 litre on injection
Carbs carbs it will sound how it should👍
I would put a cossie YB in the escort.
The cossie BDA is very rare and not as powerfull.
The luddite in me says go for the Webers, but the sensible side of me asks if you do have the knowledge, or access to the knowledge to set them up correctly?
Have you thought about bike carbs for the BDA mk2 Escort, easy to tune and parts are easy to get, they can be fine tuned
20ft is alot better you always need more space✌️🐸

Throttle bodies
😎😎😎😎🌶🌶🌶👍👍
EFI. Do it.
20 foot container solution seems a bit clumsy…. 10 foot should be enough….
You might get the mk2 done before body shop bloke gets bmw done.. 🐌🐌🐌
Beef up your security there’s a RUclipsr that has engines and performance parts stolen I think in one of the Scandinavian countries
My skeleton flywheel is exactly 3 kilos ,, a new personal best for me 😂
Throttle bodies, same noise more poke
Twin 40 or 45's with bell mouths, induction rrooaarr.
BDA, Belt Drive A series.
Far better to have a standard 6 meter container & when you decide to sell it I will be easier to sell than a non standard size
Independent carbs
Carbs sound better ,,, and I have throttle bodies on mine 😬😂 only because I bought mine with them on .
Lads loosing the touch on engine footage, skipped over the BDA which I was looking forward to a detail strip down🤨
Go throttle bodies. You can tune by changing mapping, not farting about with jets.
Title ???
Birmingham area code.
Carbs......
Mapped ingnition and carbs Lee
Get a small container. You'll be moaning every time you have to walk around it!
If you need more space, how about another mezzanine?
It would be awesome to see it with a plenum to single throttle body down to a turbo 😉
Throttle bodies… easier to start in all weathers and temps, better low speed running… just more tuneable. Sound will be very similar.
Tuning cards is a dying art and you will struggle to find someone to do it well.
SU Carbs.
Carbs
Bike carburetor.
