My first “high powered” car was an ep3 type r 54reg. I miss it to this day! Did a check on it a few months back and it’s still on the road 190k miles on it on its last MOT. Passed every time with only a few minors throughout the years, glad it’s still going strong and being looked after. Sold it at 41k wish I kept it even though I’ve had a lot more powerful cars since then but the memories made when having that car tops it all
My mates Eg 4wd with b18 turbo is nearly finished will give you a shout. Its a fully stripped EG, 4wd with a fully built b18 and his looking at around 500hp. Thats gona be mental on eg shel

Awesome video and you Really caught the sounds brilliantly. I know in today's turbo world, it's a different kettle of fish and some can't see the point but Honda should be applauded for designing these high revving beasts even if technology has moved in a different direction
@@solefreak2 They are if you replace the timing chain tensioner, common fault with the K20 unit. Put the right oil in it at the right intervals, don't rag it from cold, it'll run forever.
@@solefreak2 I did my best to save it but after spending over a grand on a timing chain then the first time I gave it a good blast then the horrible noise started. Couldn't be bothered to spend any more so I sold it 600 pound and got a golf R, now I need a clutch lol yes the R is faster but doesn't feel 100 bhp faster as it's a heavy lump, iv never been blown away by the golf R nothing special until you tune it.
@@jamstersmith4625 The Golf R should be a lot quicker than the Type R. I've driven the Honda when they first released, excellent handling but need to be worked hard to gain or feel any speed. In fact my previous diesel 330cd would leave the Type R's on a rolling drag and from stand still.

My honda had a de cat and I raced loads of ep3 s fn2 and by the end of third gear I'd be well infront. My mate said his subaru was 300 brake and would kill my ep3 so we went for a race. Miles Nathaniel-James B series cross over is not better than the k series. K20a2 is the Ep3, K20a is better than K20a2 and the k24 is the best of them all. 😊

Its my car and yeah it smokes a little its not so much in tec but on initial press of the throttle, stem seals need doing will get it sorted soon, bought the car stock in September and done all this so far, sorting the oil is next on the list but car drives spot on

Standard they arent that fast but with a few bolt ons they keep up with all the modern Hot Hatches easily, if you add FI to them they are another level.
Ive had imprezas etc, and the other jdm cars. But the na type r's make u feel like your in a rocket ship. Vtec yoooooooo. 1 bit of advice, red line the Sh#t out of it, its built for it. Oil changes and services 🤘
I really miss my EP3 after some numb nut had no idea what his middle pedal was for... and slammed into the back of me and wrote off my EP3 back in 2013 just before Xmas... I then got the FN2 model Champ White Edition which looked good from the outside... but man alive... it was a massive step backwards performance wise coming from an EP3.. The cons of a FN2:- 1. It's heavier than the EP3.. 2. It has electronic throttle which isn't as sensitive as drive by wire which the EP3 has.. 3. The VTEC X-over is more linear whereas the EP3 VTEC comes in with a jolt... 4. The spoiler running through the back window obstructing your rear view was a dim idea... 5. Torsion beam as oppose to rear independent suspension as on the EP3.. The pros of a FN2:- 1. The interior is a lot nicer with better seats and that split level space age looking dash.. 2. It's Jap.. so you don't have to worry about it breaking down.. Lol In short the FN2 is a grown up Type R. Whereas the EP3 is a hooligan in need of an ASBO! That K20 block you can thrash the f*** out of it.. without the fear of it breaking.... and it will keep on asking for more!
To everyone saying its a japanese/ jdm car. Its not its ukdm. The were manufactured in Swindon (UK) the only ep3 thats jdm is the championship white edition, which was exported to japan for domestic sale. Then some imported back👍🏼

Bro...For this review you haven't even experienced the full power of the car, because you have an engine check light on, which suggest there is an issue with your sensor 1 O2 sensor. Usually with i-vtec engines, once there is a check light being displayed on the dash, but the car is able to be driven, the ECU restricts the total power output to half, which means you were not even getting 130 hp.....The engine is rated stock as 200-220 hp. At that kind of power you should be gettting far more torque steer, but I could tell the car was quite stable even when you hit VTEC, also the white smoke being emitted suggests the fuel is burning rich, definitely air fuel ratio issues. Its a lovely car though.

They make 197 bhp 0-60 6.4 seconds for the price to performance they’re pretty nuts and the interior is very Japanese, very minimalistic. I own a black ep3 premier edition with the trend line recaro bucket seats and the red carpet etc the interior looks amazing to me. The one featured looks to be a standard ep3 interior he’s put the red door cards in out a premier edition standard steering wheel etc. They kept things simple back then at least in Japan haha. Part of the reason why they’re so reliable.
@@golfmk6r964 not sure how much the golf weighs of the top of my head but the EP3 weighs 1204kg for the standard and the premier is slightly less due to a slight lighter flywheel and lighter seats (not much in it though)

Am trying to get hold of a tegiwa or gruppe m enclosed induction kit first but yeah ive been in a mapped up ep3 and they do fly

I had a black premier edition for 11 years it was a great car and never let me down. Very difficult to part with it but the FK2 makes up for it.

Love the ep3, fast and light. Had mine up to 155 hard to believe but it's true. Timing chain and bearing in the engine went at 112k

If you want a proper crossover try a b series, they're more aggressive. Also try and get in an eg, ek or dc2, they're more raw than EP3's

K is more aggressive in everyway except for the sound. Nothing beats the sound of a B series crossover
I used to have one, felt rapid. When I got my 8v s3 it didn't feel anywhere near as quick as my ep3. Vtecccccc

@@golfmk6r964 not sure how much the golf weighs of the top of my head but the EP3 weighs 1204kg for the standard and the premier is slightly less due to a slight lighter flywheel and lighter seats (not much in it though)

Warren Steward no I haven’t had a chance to remap it, waiting to buy a rbc and k100 or kpro. Reason why the eml is on since i had the decat put on
@@TSGDETAILING thought so be careful though can damage your engine killing it without a map. I've got the same mani with tegiwa cat back and k100 240bhp it's wicked. Nice car though I'm liking the wheels 👍
Warren Steward cheers buddy, it’s all in the pipeline. I bought the car in September totally stock and pretty much built it to this spec in a short amount of time. Its going in for new m2 rear lcas, asr and beak bar tomorrow then soon to be mapped. Am trying to get hold of a tegiwa or gruppe m enclosed induction kit first but yeah ive been in a mapped up ep3 and they do fly
