Ah yes, the experience of not being able to clip the top. Always fun when that happens, because taking the fall is pretty much the only way out.
Also might wanna get into the habit of clipping between shoulder and hip height; most of the time the routes are set that there's good clipping positions in that area, and stretching a lot means there is a lot more slack if you slipped, which can be dangerous at the lower quickdraws. It's a bit counterintuitive that clipping later is safer, but you can train your brain to do so by practising on easier routes.

You're absolutely right about the clipping height, that's the most safe way! That's always the goal, but you know how it is, you wanna clip as soon as you spot you can reach the clip to feel safer. Stay safe!
