They could easily make the cooking system more interesting and rewarding by just buffing the meals you can make, or giving them bonus effects. Hopefully they listen to the feedback since it's supposed to be such a big part of the game.
If you understand the cooking and crafting system, and actually use it the way its intended, you can easily get huge buffs that last a half hour. It seems like a lot of people are just not understanding it, and i cant blame them, cus i didnt at first. But now that i get it, i find it extremely rewarding.
Really gives me "Alien Far Cry Primal" vibes in the world and I love it, I will play just to walk around, regardless of how bad the rest of the game is.
Agreed, i like that vibe. I think it's cool to find the thing that drives people to play games. It doesn't have to meet every possible demand or request since everyone likes something different. As long as you think it is worth getting and you will have fun with it, that is what matters.
@@TowerWatchTVas long as the arrows are gigantic compared to the humans I’ll probably get it. Idk what it is about the movies but seeing a giant arrow just stick someone to a wall was always cool so I hope the game keeps that aspect.
Hope the little'un keeps getting better mate. One of the hardest thing about parenting is that sense of uselessness when you can't do anything to make them feel better. Great review as always, keep up the good work sir.🍻
Not a big Avatar fan, but got the game and i really enjoy it. Every system within the game is all about the blue smurfs way, and it feels kinda unique in that sense. Don't really have much to complain about, for crafting gear or food you don't need much resources at all and that feels like a blessing. It's not the classic horde everything you see kinda game. The combat is way more fun then i thought, i do like the quality of the weapons and i pick that over quantity. Only downside for me is the main story, it didn't really grab me and i do enjoy the side quests more while roaming around on Pandora. Oh and the mtx shop with all the skins feels a bit weird and pointless, will finish the game and then looking forward the dlc expansions.
Old comment ik but I agree. The options they gave us are very limited. I think that beyond the new areas the the two DLC should have been one where you're a human RDA soldier and using their gear, then one set after it as the same character and now you're taking control of a grown avatar body to infiltrate them similar to Jake Sully's mission. Then they could give players more creative freedom over the avatar body that would make more sense with the narrative.
Hey Luke, relatively new to the channel here, probably been listening consistently for about 2 months, though I discovered you about a year ago. I wasn’t into the really quiet, multiple hour reviews, I think mainly because of the lack of energy. Your energy now is what keeps me coming back, along with how genuine you seem. You don’t pander to anything or any side, you express what you think and it’s always informed rather than based on your whims at the time. I hear educated references to whether something logically follows in some of your videos, its good stuff. I think that the fact of you being 19 at the time and the demonstrable fact that you’ve changed since then are enough to not even warrant an apology. Thanks for being you and keep up the great work
Game Theory: they finished the game 5ish years ago and were waiting for the movie, but the next gen systems came out and they decided to make the move to them and that's what they've been doing. It explains the fade in and out to cut scenes, the pop-in and out, the freezing, the story not improving but the graphics being top notch, and the handful of systems from popular games like BoTW. It probably was a decision from the top down like the adding anything to the game was.
This game has been a huge pleasant surprise for me. I havent had this much fun with like parkour and traversal since Assassins creed 1. You really *feel* like a Na'vi in this living world. It shocked me because my expectations were really low and it turned out great imo.
This is exactly why I take the hope for the best prepare for the worst approach. I love this game, I can recognize that the story is almost nonexistent and the writing is nothing of note, but the world, the world is so good. I came into the game with my only expectation being that I would be a tall blue cat person, and I've been blown away. The sights and colors are amazing and will likely never lose their appeal to me, the hunting and gathering is feeding the hunger that the Tomb Raider games gave me for a more predatory style of stealth. I love treerunning above a group of animals and killing them all in quick succession with precise shots. Don't get me wrong, I have issues. But the way the game is, my only big one is the limited stash space.
Hope your son makes a full recovery Luke! And you couldn’t be more right, everyone makes mistakes. I have no idea what happened but I’m not worried about it. You’re clearly a good dude!
It seems a lot of people dont actually understand how the foraging, cooking, and crafting systems work. I didnt get it at first, but now that i do, its super easy to get big buffs that last a long time, and craft op gear. I didnt understand the item quality and rarity system for like 15 hours, and it looks like luke didnt figure it out at all in his playthrough, and still hasnt. Its actually a really rewarding and indepth system once you understand it. The buffs are actually worth it when you figure out how to track down high level materials.
Is it gonna be the next “greatest game ever conceived”? Probably not, no. But will it be pretty much everything an Avatar fan could want? Yes. I can’t wait for this game
I've been loving it, just wish the stash space was infinite and the story had more depth than the source material. I would've liked to see the mc actually become kind of a bridge between the humans and Na'vi. But after the opening the closest that the game gets is 'the humans never taught us that', missed opportunity but the story is hardly existent so I can't blame it for not exploring that.
Looks like Far Cry 6 in the Avatar universe which is fine by me. I'll probably buy it at some point like i did with all other Far Cry games just for it's world and how good it looks.

I want to love it. When i finished the prolouge, I was "oh yea, this is going to be epic". I've only played a few hours, but I do have a couple od early complaints. The map is awful. You can't zoom in below the cloud cover and I can hardly tell what I'm looking at or where I'm going. I've hardly progressed through the story within my hours playing because of the constant map viewing to see where my way point is. Another thing is I'm supposed to be able to equip my weapon instantly, but it's not working. I'm having to press start, options, equip. Same with opening my gear/pouch/inventory. And I am discovering cooking ingredients, but not direction on how to cook. Idk.....me being a huge Avatar, and loving the graphics, so I'll keep chipping away.
Nah, it just activates the brain and i love that in video games. Especially for directions, puzzles etc. Elden ring proved for everyone that they don't need a prompt on the screen to know what area to explore or where to go consistantly. Exploring things with a rough idea of where to go makes it all the time the more exciting imo

I think the best gathering/crafting system I've seen was in ghost of tsushima. It was very basic, but when you would gather flowers or hunt animals or whatever, you'd get tangible, permanent upgrades. Flowers would let you get new colors of clothes or make poison darts (and this was the only way to get them, since they're very powerful). Fabrics and metals would let you upgrade weapons and armors (which would change animations or change the look of the armor). The coolest thing I think was that upgrading your knife changed and sped up the stealth kill animations, so you felt like your character was actually improving his technique and becoming more deadly, rather than just increasing numbers. There were also different ways to get different materials, which shook up gameplay and let you just gather things as you played instead of spending a ridiculous amount of time grinding. You could steal precious metals from enemy camps (which was fun, because the combat in that game felt amazing), for example. And there was no currency system, because it look place in wartime Japan - so hunting, stealing, and foraging essentially replaced what otherwise would've been a generic currency system.
@@peentzThe guns are huge immersion breaker. Like flying is really fun. The world is stunning. But not that far cry style again. I like far cry but not in an avatar game.
7:19 Is there at least an option to turn on quest markers? If there are no quest markers I definitely will pass on the game, I don't have time for that.
i feel like they could've tied the cooking/foraging systems better if you either REALLY wanted to have those bonuses (like you said, with BOTW/TOTK) or if you HAD to consume it, by having survival elements like needs which you must attend to.
Luke here’s my only thing about just doing the outposts and not having to kill the enemies. I don’t understand why if you have an issue with it why don’t you just not exploit that? As in just kill all the ememies? I get that it’s there so you can do it that way. But if you don’t like don’t do it that way. Right?
Our little boy had the same thing. We got an "owlet" off Amazon that he wore while sleeping so we could monitor his SpO2 levels overnight. Would definitely recommend it as allowed my wife to sleep better knowing an alarm would go off if it went too low. Hope the little one gets better soon
Best wishes for you and ya family Luke. I also like the fact of you putting the assassin creed ezio soundtrack over ya video. Keep up the great vids. They really help me out while I’m at work 😊
I have a suspicion that Lightstorm Entertainment's involvement prevented this game from being better. I think it's clear that more time was spent ensuring it matched the aesthetics and lore of the movies than was spent making sure the game was fun to play. If you're a diehard 'Avatar' fan you'll probably get enough enjoyment from simply exploring the world to make up for the shortcomings, but this looks more like a mediocre 'Far Cry' spin-off than the game they were hyping it up to be.
Its actually better than luke is making it out to be, i realized after about 15 hours that luke just doesnt understand the foraging system, and so he thinks the buffs are negligable and useless. You can get some serious buffs pretty easy once you understand how to collect the correct items in the correct places.
20:30 I actually love that sort of out-of-the-box manner of clearing objectives. It really encourages you to think creatively. Assassins Creed game have this too. If you have to loot something from a fort, one way to do it is to let enemies spot you, then hide so they search that general area and then sneak back around and loot the quest object. Usually they do spot you eventually but by then you have what you came for and just get the heck out of there. I dont know but it kind of puts a smile on my face when all these guys are searching in the bushes, while im comfortably opening my chest or free a prisoner. Its not exactly 200 IQ stuff, I know, but its still nice that you can manipulate enemies this way instead of having to slaughter them all every time.
I love your content, Luke, but why did you put so many of your ‘clueless’ gameplay clips in this video? Shooting hatches that were closed, running round and round not knowing what to do? Surely you eventually figured it out and looked cooler doing it, right?
Honestly after how disappointing Starfield, Forza Motorsport 8, and AC Mirage being just meh I didn’t think I had it in me to get disappointed once again so I’m actually happy the Avatar isn’t bad

The witcher 3’s carrying capacity was also irking to be honest😂 you find yourself being over carry capacity when you really don’t want to leave anything behind (to sell it for coin by traveling to Toussaint, since everyone is poor elsewhere 😂) and then you have to go to your abilities and apply the “strong back” one, then replace it again with a normal ability once you’ve sold your stuff 😂
no no no no no... you're not ALLOWED to criticize The Witcher 3... it's the best game of all time according to gamers who probably were born a week before The Witcher 3 came out... I tried The Witcher 3 because everybody was telling me I'm an idiot that I haven't played it (I've been a hardcore gamer for 25+ years)... man... I never managed to get over act 2 with how mindnumbingly boring it was... for every main story quest you had to do 20 side quests that took forever and by that point you had forgotten what the fuck had happened in the main story... the combat system is clunky at best, dogshit at worst... The Witcher 3 is a game I hate with passion not because it's the worst game of all time, not at all... but because it's RIDICULOUSLY overrated... it's a good game... but putting it in the best single player game of all time conversation is a joke... the game literally doesn't let you play it's main quest because you need to level up in it's ridiculously slow level system while the combat is so mediocre and clunky that you literally sigh every time you draw your sword and say "here we go again..." When a game that is supposed to be an action adventure makes you not want to fight, then the combat is really REALLY - REAAAAAAAALY bad!!! I played Cyberpunk 2077 by Project RED and THAT is a properly great game... now that it's bug free... THAT is a game that doesn't bore you to death...

I can well imagine higher-ups nerfing the rewards for cooking to make it optional in order to increase the mass appeal. I thought the Witcher 3 did a good job of making certain mechanics more necessary with increased difficulty, but I think that is very difficult to pull off. Your idea of linking actual abilities to cooking rather than negligible buffs is excellent. That would encourage you to experiment with different approaches to clearing out outposts and give you something to think about and a sense of anticipation while gathering resources.
When I keep on collecting plants and stuff, they won't let me do that little game as you call it, they have me put me on automatic and it'll work and I can't collect otherwise I've started the game, uninstalled the game, reinstalled the game, and it still happens and I changed all the settings back to default. Has this happened to anybody else? Merry Christmas to you and your family.🎄
thats the thing though james cameron has always said that in avatar, there is no such thing as magic. he did not want some magic floaty rocks, he actually got people to make it so the rocks floating have different explanations to how they could possibly float in the air.
Really would've liked to see some _Abe's Odyssey_ type "puzzle rescue" elements, where you can save other blue guys - or even a "tribe" system where you could recruit them, choose their gear etc I could go for hours with ideas for this but meh
Literally came back to this video just to see if anyone was calling him out on this take. The food buffs have been some of the most useful shit i've gotten in the game, I don't even know where he was finding such low %s either, even my crappiest meals are providing like a 25% buff. (e.g. of buffs: Blast Protection(there are literal mortar AMP suits, this will save your life), Stealth(very noticeable), Stealth Damage, Creature Damage, Max Health, Max Stamina, 'Guarenteed Condition Bonus on Gather'(this one is super nice, don't have to wait for it to be raining in your area to get the best quality shit), and loads more) And crafting is also by far the only way you're ever going to be able to do some areas. I reckon he struggled so much with the bases as he wasn't actually crafting new weapons.(first bow you get does 16 dmg, even the first recipe you get is 20-106 depending on material. And recipes further in add extra effects on top of more damage.)
Im not an Avatar fan, but can appreciate it for what it is. This game has made me interested in watching the movies. Was pretty impressed with the level of polish

I'm a huge Harry Potter fan, more than an Avatar fan but objectively Hogwarts Legacy is easier to get into by non fans than this game... as a game... fuck the IP or the movies, books etc... as a game Hogwarts Legacy gives you more fun faster, easier and with less slow and boring moments...
I love how Luke’s first avatar video a week ago had the “Just wow…” and a week later it’s “a mixed bag” 💀

Crazy right? 😏
I think he just knit picks for content tbh
Bro, he played it for a few hours at an expo. Do you think that playing 2 hours of curated content in an expo setting might be a little different than sitting at home playing through the story?
So many brainlets crying about this guy and internet historian because Twitter told them to 🤣
he was probably just super greatful for the opportunity to play from ubisoft because he isn't one of the biggest youtubers and he wasn't invited on the last play test a fee weeks ago so he felt obligated to say good things
Releation with the devs make you cautious
They could easily make the cooking system more interesting and rewarding by just buffing the meals you can make, or giving them bonus effects. Hopefully they listen to the feedback since it's supposed to be such a big part of the game.
If you understand the cooking and crafting system, and actually use it the way its intended, you can easily get huge buffs that last a half hour. It seems like a lot of people are just not understanding it, and i cant blame them, cus i didnt at first. But now that i get it, i find it extremely rewarding.
Its very rewarding he just didnt understand it
Cooking is not the path I have chosen in the game. Gathering ingredients all over the map to gain a small edge in combat is quite a chore to me.
Glad to hear your son is doing better ♥️♥️🙏🏼
Very happy to hear that he is doing better. Praying for you and your family my friend. Please update us as he gets better
Been waiting for your take. Proud of your growth. Keep grinding

An avatar rpg where you don't get to make your own avatar is crazy to me
I would love to see a well developed Avatar RPG that offered players the chance to create their own Avatar and explore the world 😢
Old comment ik but I agree.
Jesus luke. It's been rough couple months for you. Hope things get back on track for you!!
My son also has had a health scare recently
From one parent to another god bless you and your family and glad everything is better
I put the difficulty on easy so I can ignore the crafting, cooking and foraging because those systems feel so bloated.
Unfortunately hunting is still a real chore on the hard difficulty
Is it gonna be the next “greatest game ever conceived”? Probably not, no. But will it be pretty much everything an Avatar fan could want? Yes. I can’t wait for this game
I've been loving it, just wish the stash space was infinite and the story had more depth than the source material. I would've liked to see the mc actually become kind of a bridge between the humans and Na'vi. But after the opening the closest that the game gets is 'the humans never taught us that', missed opportunity but the story is hardly existent so I can't blame it for not exploring that.
Something I'm realising is that ubisoft games are never worth getting at the starting price. When it gets like 40-50% off its a better purchase.
Looks like Far Cry 6 in the Avatar universe which is fine by me. I'll probably buy it at some point like i did with all other Far Cry games just for it's world and how good it looks.
Yeah, looks like a fantastic game for $30-35.
It's much better though, not even comparable to the last few FC games
@@charleyking8931 Youre dense if you think this game should be worth $30-35. The world they created alone deserves more than that.
After starfield I vowed to never buy a AAA game again unless it has very positive score on steam
The moment you escaped captivity in the intro was incredible.
Well wishes to you and your fam! Glad your kid’s alright.
They should've made it like assassin's creed, the objective isn't completed until no enemy is alert to your presence and you're anonymous again.
Really appreciate your work and reviews. Sorry the end of 2023 has been so rough for you. Happy Holidays and bring on 2024!
Contradicting everything you said in the preview.
There's a difference between the final release and a cultivated demo
Yeah but he was gushing in the preview. Always talking about not getting hyped, and he is the type of person that says exactly what you commented , but because he got wined and dined, he didnt.
Dude plays a curated experience for two hours and expresses his enjoyment. Plays the game unfettered and says it's mid. Would you rather he said it was amazing if he thought the total experience wasn't?
I am happy your little lad is feeling better, and at home Luke. It's awful when a loved one is in hospital. ❤
Luke hardly comments on the traversal in the game, which is incredibly innovative and fun. Just running around the world is amazing.
and this is how you spot a shill, just look at 2 videos back it's !wow!
Exactly
A shill would have two videos telling you it's amazing, not to mention how entirely up front he was about Ubisoft bringing him out there.
Anyone passionate about games will hear alarm bells constantly whilst watching/listening to one of lukey poos "reviews" He has no idea about this game and has just seen other comments on ran with it hence the WIP which no self respecting reviewer would do.
@@elguapo3373 Nah a shill would lie and big up a game due to all the extra ubi goodies available PRIOR to release and then after release put out a work in progress review more or less slating it because he's no longer getting free ubi shit and the general consensis have called it mid! Which is exactly what he's done
On a separate note, I’m glad your kid is doing okay! My daughter just got done with a bout of RSV and it’s not easy
Did you write this one yourself?

@@criticalcoffee what happened 6 years ago?
Honestly, I never really bother with temporary stat-boosting consumables in games. They always feel underwhelming and aren’t really worth it.
Man this game is a 10/10 this game is beautiful amazing stunning the voice acting is amazing the lighting the sound just breath taking
I looks like there is fun to be had here, but some hindrances make it an imperfect experience.
Sounds like every Far Cry game ever😂
I think this game is looking really good so far. A lot of potential!
It looks like typical ubisoft slop
@@loubloom1941 Youre not wrong, but I like the ubisoft slop. If only it was 3rd person. Then it would be less ubisoft slop.
Potential of boring and repetitive outpost same enemies hunt 😂
They really help me out while I’m at work 😊
I've always wanted a game focused on plucking seeds in just the right way. Strap in boys. This is gonna be fun
i gotta say, your camera quality is so danggg good.
I’ll get it when the “ultimate” edition is on sale for $10 in a year or two. Seems like a pretty fun way to kill some time.
21:39 No, what it really means is you can clear an entire outpost without killing a single enemy. 🤦🏾♂️👎🏿🗑️
His tuned changed from his paid vacation haga
How do you tell if a baby has rsv? That is terrifying. Hoping and praying things get smoothed over for you man. Big fan.
Received the game for free with my video card, deleted it the first time I played. It SUX, especially if you are left handed!
I love your content, Luke, but why did you put so many of your ‘clueless’ gameplay clips in this video? Shooting hatches that were closed, running round and round not knowing what to do? Surely you eventually figured it out and looked cooler doing it, right?
Good to see you back I hope alls well with your boy!
You know what, Luke, that's a lot of stress to be dealing with over the last few days, I hope you're doing well. 👍
Honestly after how disappointing Starfield, Forza Motorsport 8, and AC Mirage being just meh I didn’t think I had it in me to get disappointed once again so I’m actually happy the Avatar isn’t bad
sad thing is i found this to be much better than slopfield on ps5 so far a few hour in. far more engaging and fun to explore.
Edit im esl I didn't mean Starfield is on ps5 I mean me playing avatar on ps5 was better than Starfield in general which I played on my pc
Slopfield? Which game is that meant to be? Starfield? (I know thats Xbox but with the "field" in the title I can't think of what you mean)
Starfield is Xbox
Slopfield on ps5? That one isn’t ringing any bells.

SO, the game looks pretty but the gameplay is shallow and gets boring after a few hours... guess this is another game that will only be worth watching the game "movie" on youtube for the lore

Well , it definitely helps us as consumers , grow smarter , to the manic
The Witcher 3 is a game I hate with passion not because it's the worst game of all time, not at all... but because it's RIDICULOUSLY overrated... it's a good game... but putting it in the best single player game of all time conversation is a joke... the game literally doesn't let you play it's main quest because you need to level up in it's ridiculously slow level system while the combat is so mediocre and clunky that you literally sigh every time you draw your sword and say "here we go again..."
When a game that is supposed to be an action adventure makes you not want to fight, then the combat is really REALLY - REAAAAAAAALY bad!!!
I played Cyberpunk 2077 by Project RED and THAT is a properly great game... now that it's bug free... THAT is a game that doesn't bore you to death...

Alien Isolation is, without question, the best movie game ever made.
Way more fun than Starfeild. Didn't expect that.
I think everyone was expecting a 6/10 game from Ubisoft.

Hey Luke,
I was wondering how does it look from a completionist point of view?
Really would've liked to see some _Abe's Odyssey_ type "puzzle rescue" elements, where you can save other blue guys - or even a "tribe" system where you could recruit them, choose their gear etc

In cutscenes, the npc generally just stand there. Talk and give a questline. Its generally not cinematic or dynamic most of the time

30:10 yeah I’ll take that with a grain of salt, you said a similar thing about Gotham knights and you couldn’t have been more wrong.
Literally came back to this video just to see if anyone was calling him out on this take.
The food buffs have been some of the most useful shit i've gotten in the game, I don't even know where he was finding such low %s either, even my crappiest meals are providing like a 25% buff. (e.g. of buffs: Blast Protection(there are literal mortar AMP suits, this will save your life), Stealth(very noticeable), Stealth Damage, Creature Damage, Max Health, Max Stamina, 'Guarenteed Condition Bonus on Gather'(this one is super nice, don't have to wait for it to be raining in your area to get the best quality shit), and loads more)
And crafting is also by far the only way you're ever going to be able to do some areas. I reckon he struggled so much with the bases as he wasn't actually crafting new weapons.(first bow you get does 16 dmg, even the first recipe you get is 20-106 depending on material. And recipes further in add extra effects on top of more damage.)
