I adored your: 'when life give you pebble beaches ... just lie on them!' 😂 Kinda derisory humour and so British! 👌 It somehow reminds me, in its formulation, of one of my favorite English joke that you know most probably: 'when life gives you lemons, make lemonade! But when life gives you melons, ... you might be dyslexic! 😂😂 ❤
That was just great from you to share a little bit about your culture.. Funny things here and there.. Just wondering if you're considering making a video about connected speech and its different features? Also the use of the glottal T, would come in handy.. Cheers Katherine. I enjoy watching your videos, I really do..
I' m a big England's fan. Thanks for sharing and telling us about your memories and Englisch culture. I'm brazilian and I've been living in Germany for 27 years. I was in London twice. I love going there.🙂
Thank you so much for helping people like me to learn british english as well as british culture. I appreciate your unique ideas. Like i said before we all are waiting your podcast
Lovely video. I enjoyed listening to British summer habits/ rituals and the subtle details how people spend their warm season. I would like to add something on having a cup of tea in the summer. This is similar when it comes to hot weather in the Middle East. In my case, in Africa. We do have a saying in my language, I’m not sure if it makes sense in English. We say: WE TAKE A THORN OUT OF OUR SKIN WITH A THORN. So, heat with heat, that’s how it works. When your really thirsty in a desert, you have tea; not water-they say. Obviously, the perspiration cools down your body temperature. This is to share what I heard and know.
Thank you for the video. Really useful! I’d like to know about tea, cream tea and tea room more. Can you introduce them some day? I’m going to London in July, so can’t wait! I live in Japan, by the way.
My Chinese boyfriend loves your videos! While he still has a long way to go, his English skills have improved and he's sounding more British as the days go by!
I like your denomination of 'Mermaid's purse'. Very poetic indeed. We also call them 'bourses de sirènes' here and also 'oreilles de mer' (sea ears). They are fish eggs basically and egg capsules, or ootheca is the more scientific name given to the these characteristically shaped eggs of certain oviparous chondrichthyans (cartilaginous fish). They come from small sharks (particularly dogfish), rays and chimaeras and consist in a rigid, sac-like envelope (called the capsule), with long, twisted filaments at all four ends used to attach the egg to seaweed or other surfaces on the seabed. They often washed up on beaches and mermaid's purses are one of the elements that can make up the sea leash.
..and of course , forgive me for bringing back a lovely memory for the fullest , the weather was typically Englisch , continuously cloudy , and most of the time raining or persistent drizzle . The taxi ride from Cardiff airport over the beautiful rolling landscape with winding roads among England's and Wales' (s ?) greenest hills still sticks to my brain . That characteristic landscape is really amazing for a Dutchman, and words can hardly express how wonderful that was. Traffic signs with " Give Way " or "Make Way " on it (? vague and distant memory) I didnt know what that was supposed to mean. The rain made the taxi ride even more adventurous !
Sitting on a pebble beach " is no picnic " , ( is not easy ) , Americans would say. In Holland people flock to the sandy beach in Scheveningen now , near The Hague (Den Haag ) , ignoring warnings of getting a sunstroke , or dehydrated and sunburned in the scorching heat. So a lot of similarities between Dutch and British people behavior here . Dutch news channels and dermatologists already advice today to stay inside more often because it is already too hot to stay outside. We are overwhelmed by the quick switching to soaring high temperatures all of a sudden .
Thank you a lot for your videos! Now I’m able to feel myself as if I traveled to Britain ! I came up with an idea for your next videos: tell us about the sites, podcasts, newspapers, magazines or some Facebook subscriptions that you , your friends and family like to read or follow. That would be great to keep up to date and not only read classic books( although they are great)😊
I'm Brazilian and I like English barbecue, I'm going to try the pimms drink. Thank you for sharing British culture with us. If you ever go to Brazil, I advise you to try a typical drink called caipirinha.
I live a km from the water on the South Coast of England, I should mention the West Wittering, sand! Just around the corner from me and not a pebble in sigh but oh the out of towners! When I lived in London my beach was indeed Brighton, special extended and yet rare excursions included Little Hampton or even Bognor Regis. My favourite location however, was (and still is) Seaford, where the river Arun meets the English Channel. Nice views of Beachy Head and The Seven Sisters, a bit of a trek clamouring up them though. FYI three BBQs achieved to date this year. Holiday, staycation. I only go abroad for work, that’s austerity for you. I tan naturally due to my bilogical roots but I do suffer form the initial singe. Right, I’m off for a cuppa, which is scientifically proven to cool. Happy teaching!
Sure cultures do overlap for example tea drinking is so popular in my country Morocco 🇲🇦 even if it’s scorching hot we love drinking mint tea. My dad used to drink it after coming back home in summer while we the children prefer to have lemonade or soda instead Thanks for sharing your lovely memories with us ❤
My award for best lovely culture goes to this Video for delightful presentation and relative explanations. Though now far away, I felt myself I am in Britain. Thanks Katharine.(:)

Hi Katherine, greetings from Brazil! I like all your videos very much and your lessons about British english and British culture are so cool. You are really an amazing person. By the way, I am glad to know you like brazilian barbecue. But don´t worry, because your british barbecue 🥩seems also to be very cool, what it really matters for a good barbcue is to have pleasant momments and having fun with your family and friends meanwhile eating a good and yummy food.😎🥩🥓
Hi Katherine, the music festival in Oxfordshire sounds nice. It would be nice to go, but I’m in San Diego. Some of my grandfathers family were from Oxfordshire.

I literally couldn’t go on in cloudy weather!!! I have to have sunshine. All day everyday. Im planning on moving to Florida the sunshine state soon. And I’m from wv, so we have all the seasons. But no thank you to Britain. Y’all can keep your cloudy weather! 😂😂😂❤
Take "Salam" from Bangladesh. You are not only just teacher but also extraordinary trainer...Plz make more vidioes becasue these are very vital for me. Heartly prayer, God bless you.
Interesting video! Thank you! I'm guilty of seven of these. 😉 I was wondering if you had any thoughts on the apparent "Vowel Shift" that's been going on over the last decade or so? I remember watching the BBC a few years ago, and the newscaster was talking about the "meevements of greeps of treeps" in Iraq, when she meant "movement of groups of troops." And last November, when the BBC was covering Cornwall's new spaceport, they showed a classroom where a teacher was showing the students how to make a rocket out of a plastic "cheeb" (tube).
I think: it just came to my attention: is it a proper phrase or idiom or saying? FIRE WITH FIRE! It might be a bit similar with what I mentioned in my previous message. This might help you to dig deeper, I reckon. Or a lesson, on day. You can teach us.😀👍🏿👊🏿 Thank you, once more, Kath.
I live in France and have been to the London all of once. I loved the vibrant atmosphere there and it reminded me a lot of Bombay from where I am originally. Thanks for the lovely video
Katharine , I remember I went to a wedding party years ago in summer , a good friend of mine wedded a British girl . I went on a " City hopper " plane and landed in Cardiff , Wales Airport. I didnt know what to expect or how to behave on that party , and I still dont know what " the Best Man " exactly is , but it seemed to be important . I remember that the invited city girls from London were pretty and pretty direct that evening , and the country girls , who were from Wales , were shy but kind and they said the English I was taught in Holland and which I spoke was " upper class English" , and that wasnt current in Wales. I wish you could make some day a video " How to behave as a regular visitor on a typical British marriage party " , similar to / like the video that you already made , ' How to behave on your first day at the office in a new job '.
