Thank you for giving Dean Wilson the credit he deserves. Too often he is ignored and bypassed and others have taken the credit for what Dean originated. He lives very close to me and I have planned to visit him but the global pandemic has prevented that. Thank you for this excellent presentation. BTW there is a growing group of Yamaha swaps into Avid/Kitfox and others that is very affordable... I do realize that Yamaha snowmobiles are not prevalent in SA though.
Nice video Carel, and thank you for giving the credit to Dean Wilson that he deserves. I'm starting another Avid MK IV rebuild in a couple of months and it will have a 912 in it as well. Just an 80 HP, but plenty of power in my cold, low altitude area. Please keep the videos coming! Jim Chuk
E-props !!!! 😍 They're super famous here in France ! You're the first I heard to speak about E-props out of France on RUclips. I'm very glad that you're happy with 😊
Thanks you guys, I got my Avid a few months ago. It has the Subaru EA-81, I’m doing a few things to it. Duel calipers, tail spring and tail wheel upgrades. Thanks Carel for the VG info. Now to get my tail wheel Endorsement. I fly a Zenith 701 but look forward to your Avid videos and flying my Avid “River Brat”
great job dude! I'm almost done with my brand new Eurofox2k project. Like you I mounted the Rotax912iS, but I installed Garmin avionics and a three blade Duc prop. Next week she shall be brought to the field and testing will commence. Thanks for the video, I always like to see what other people are doing with their planes around the world, here in Italy not much is happening actually, I seem to be the only one with a new Eruofox in the country!!
Subscribed! I have an Avid Flyer with a 80hp VW. I'd love to install a 912, I like your (Eurofox) motor mount. Engine vibration has always surprised me when fly in other Kitfoxes that had 912's. While you're experimenting with VG's try them on underside too, I'd like to see your findings. With the camber on the bottom side of the wing, the VG's are supposed to raise your cruise speed.
@wiplashsmile Hey! Yeah, we have been inactive in posting videos for a while. But I actually did install VG’s on the bottom and saw about 5kts increase in cruise speed!
Awesome project well done guys!! We fly 2 Eurofoxes as Tow planes at a gliding club with the 914 Turbo engine, which so far have been ultra reliable (800hrs) Your prop choice seems to be excellent also. Keep us posted how it goes.😎
Well done! Maybe you could sell the plans for the engine mount design with measurements in both metric and also in inches for us Americans who do not have metric scales!
So the VGS on the bottom of the wing DO NOT affect the Stall Speed... The wing on the Avid has 'n undercamber which causes the air to separate underneath the wing when flying at high speed. That's why I installed the VGs on the bottom.... To keep the air attached in the scenario, thus increasing the top en speed. Hope this makes sense?
That's a great video - only just found you. and love hearing the SA accent - I miss my SA friends! Same question as always though: how does anyone afford their own plane??? 😁
@@About2Stall I'm based in KZN but often travel for business. I've been wanting to pop in to say hi. I'll make a plan this year. Love what you guys do. SA aviation needs more of this!!
Thanks! We bought the plane with a Rotax 582 for way less than what a KitFox goes for these days... And the Engine is a second hand rebuild one, not a "boosted" Edge Performance engine. Edge Performance did the rebuild, but it's a stock 100hp 912. That's why it was possible 😉
Have you developed your kitfox 7SS gap seal yet? I am ready for my first flight , I have your VG placement installed and look forward to using your gap seals. Thank you , Mynda
Hi Mynda! We have a prototype installed, but we're still waiting for the new 300hp EPEX to come, so we haven't been able to test fly it... But we'll keep you updated 👍🏼
Thank you for the reply, Please keep me informed on your gap seal , I enjoy your videos and can not wait to see more, on the test flights. Thanks again for your community support !! Mynda
How does everyone feel about the iPad only solution in the cockpit? It seems like a great way to undercut the very overpriced glass panel manufacturers, but is it as reliable?
Hi Forrest! I've been flying with this setup for almost 2 years now with no issues. I made sure that the Ipad has good ventilation in the back, and this have not had any overheating issues. I'm actually making the Autopilot video now and have their sister company Aircraft Automation standalone efis unit as well. Which seems to be a great Alternative for those who worry about the ipad only 😊
I was just given an Avid Mk4. ZERO TTAF. he never put it into phase 1. It has literally never flown. I dont care for 2 smoke power, so will be repowering. I wish i could afford the route you went.
You could save more money if you can source a Yamaha apex from a motorcycle or snowmobile or jet ski. total price for the engine could be $9,000-$15,000.
That could very well be true, but sourcing one of those engines are significantly more difficult here in South Africa due to the lack of snowmobiles. But I know the Yamaha Phazer makes for a great engine in these planes!
Awesome!! Really cool video!
Can't wait to see this and learn what you guys have been up to with this Airframe!!!! :-)
We're excited to share! It has taken Quite a while to finish so we hope you like it!
Looks great to me
I agree. That was very smart
Very good this is why I love this channel good research.
I love the engine sound during the fly over. Well done.

That's Awesome Chris! Sounds like a great project!
An absolute pleasure in the VGs 😉 and enjoy your flying!
I just inherited an avid flyer that also needs a little work. Thank you for sharing your project. I will probably be purchasing some similar products.
That's awesome! Glad we could help inspire some decisions 😁
Looking good, now you have a great bushplane
Thanks!
Yes absolutely 😁🙌🏼🙌🏼

Loved our Avid Speedwing. Amazing engineering on the wing fold mechanism.
They are great little aeroplanes!
That price...damn. I'm impressed. Actually attainable.
That was exactly the goal of the project!
Love it! I have been a Kitfox fan, but can't afford it, thanks for the input! Looking forward to.more!

We're really enjoying the prop, the review will come soon 😉
A homesick angel....
Exactly! 😁🚀
Awesome as always. Hopefully we can also see more videos on the learning page. 😎
Thanks Marcus!
Would u be sharing the engine mount plans innorder to rebuild them with a certified airframe welder to be able to mount that engine? Greetings
Fantastic video! Great channel. Keep up the great work! You may become the Mike Patey of South Africa!

Great Video guys! Glad I found your channel👍

The cg shift might make you elevator limited so that you can’t get the full benefit of the vgs. How did you get an airplane and a 912 for $30k?
Love it, huge avid lover I have a Mk4 avid kit that I will build in the near future, definitely looking into the E-props
Awesome! Madly in love with the Avid.. "The one that started it all 😜
Owened one. Great except for wing loading. Cant fly in 20kts crosswind.

Maybe, we'll see 😉
If you share or sell this engine mount, there’s an avid flyer down the road from me I’d buy in a heartbeat. Looks like a blast to fly.
If you are really interested, pop me an email to about2stall@gmail.com I might be able to get you a quote to build another one
Nicely done!
Thanks you! Can't wait to fly formation with that Bushbaby of yours!
Amazing! So cool!!!
Thanks Brian! Pretty neat little aeroplane isn't it?
Goeie werk-julle kan baie trots wees op die projek .Wonderlik om te sien hoe vlieg meer toeganklik gemaak kan word-sien uit na jou volgende video !

Thanks!😁

Great video! As for a name for the mini-me, how about Little Red Riding Hood??
🤪
Nice !! I’m planning to do something similar, would you share your engine mount file? Because I’d like to fabricate one here for me
The VGs INCREASED the stall speed? I always thought that they helped the air stick to the wing and DECREASED the stall speed?
