    I always thought the HiZack's design was a 'joke' by the Titans since the Zaku was a symbol of Zeon, and the Titans were basically a Spacenoid oppression unit, a little psychological warfare goes a long ways. I grant this is just a head-theory of mine.

    Here's another reason: AE didn't just acquire Zeon's mobile weapon _engineers,_ they got the manufacturing plants and existing tooling as well. These facilities could probably make Hizack parts with minimal modification but would have required a fair bit of investment to retool to federation-style suits. A similar thing happened in France after it was liberated in WW2: When they rearmed, what they had around were facilities and parts for german-style tanks, so that's what they started out building as a stopgap measure until they had the time and resources to refit everything. Their first self-produced tanks (as opposed to ones received from other allied forces) near the end of WW2 were german Panthers put together from existing parts, and their first post-war designs had a number of distinctly german design elements.

    Zaku(II) was the most produced mobile suit in UC history when the OYW ended there is still a lot of suits, parts left not to mention the half-finished suits still on production lines. Also for a "Peacekeeping" force like the Titans, you don't really need to give them that good of a machine so giving them a Hizack which is Cheap but good enough of a Machine also makes sense,
      Another reason could be similar to the French in the Interwar and Post War years,
      During the Interwar years France didn't Invest Heavily on it Military as they lacked the Economy to Build it up after WW1, Command was also slow to adopt and improve on Tactics, Communications and Weaponry for example the French in the interwar period for the most part still used Signal Flags over Radios because they feared that the Radios would be tapped by the Enemy,
      In the Post War Era, France had a Shortage of weaponry as they were Occupied in WW2 and had to Restrore the State after the war so they had to rely on Captured and Lended Equipment, so in the late 40s France was able to use The Panther of WW2 fame and began complaning about it.

    The thing i loved about zeta gundam is the fusion of Zeonic suits and federation suits between the two sides. Amuro piloting a zeonic like suit the dijeh and rick dias(spirital rick dom successor) and Char/quattro piloting a gundam and later a gundam prototype in the hyaku shiki. Titans fielded two Psychomu gundams and the GM 2 was still seen being fielded along side the hizacks pretty late into the gryps conflict. Felt natural for the fusion of MS design to make it to that point.

    • @dark7element
      @dark7element 6 месяцев назад

      For all the seeming absurdity of the Titans fielding lots of Zaku-looking Hizacks in Zeon colors, there are plenty of occasions in Zeta when you're reminded that it's the Earth Federation the heroes are fighting against. GMs, Guncannons, and Tin Cods (those crappy Federation fighter jets) appear in decent numbers in the early story arcs. It's surprisingly late in the series when the remaining Earth Federation forces are absorbed by either the Titans or the growing AEUG, and the heroes end up killing rather a lot of loyal non-Titan Federation soldiers before that point.

  • @TheHiddenBoss

    I was under the impression that the Hi-Zack had some sort of connection to the Act Zaku which was supposedly stolen by the Earth Federation along with the Gabaldy Alpha. It was a Zaku that used a beam rifle and beam saber, and coincidentally the beam rifle the Hizack and Marasai uses are the same design as the Act Zaku. Would’ve made sense for the Federation or Titans to build a machine based off Zeon’s own design just to give them the middle finger.

    The Production of the Hi-zack is. Covered in Advance of zeta flag of the Titans where the Titans test team use the prototyoe hi-zack. By that point the efsf had been using Zaku II F2 units and Luna II was operating the Galbaty beta. It was made by AE to be a cheap production unit for the normal federal forces based on the zaku frame and able to be made on leftover zaku production lines. The Titans test it because a organization there size requires steady me supply so with the adoption of the Hi-zack they ran there own tests to see if it was worth using. It wound up adopted to fill ranks like the GM II.

      I think it's also worth mentioning how well the Zaku F2s performed in the Delaz Fleet crisis considering how antiquated and relatively cheap they were compared to the more advanced GM Kais and Augusta Project GMs like the GM Custom. It's safe to say that probably made a difference in discussions of cost-effectiveness following the nuking of the naval review.

      Here is the YRMS-106 HI-Zack pre-production general purpose mobile suit as seen is AOZ : FOT
      Manufacturer: Anaheim Electronics/Earth Federation Forces (Confeito Arsenal)
      Built as a joint venture by AE and the MS plant at the former Solomon base hence the 10 in the 106 code as zeta Era ms used by the Federation the first two digits are the plant code the hobby version of the suit is retooled at Luna II plant 11 production site of the Beta and the Custom.
      The mahq profile on the pre production type is below.
      The RMS-106 Hi-Zack was the first mass production mobile suit created by Anaheim Electronics. Its external appearance resembled that of the famous Zaku II series used by the old Principality of Zeon, and this design could only have been created by Anaheim, which absorbed the Zeonic Company that was once Zeon's major mobile suit maker. Zeonic's development know how was incorporated in the machine's inner construction as well as its outward appearance, giving it the same high operating reliability and ease of production as the Zaku II. Naturally, it could use beam weapons, and it was the first mass production machine to include a linear seat and panoramic monitor as standard equipment. The Earth Federation Forces made a tentative decision to formally adopt this machine, and a test evaluation unit was assigned to the Titans Test Team to investigate whether it should be adopted by the Titans as well. Its resemblance to the Zaku II made the Hi-Zack unpopular with the Titans, but their need to ensure a sufficient number of mobile suits for their growing organization ultimately left them with no alternative. The YRMS-106 Hi-Zack typically carried an energy pack holder on its left arm. Its backpack and leg thruster units lacked the deflecting plates seen in the final production version, and this early version of the Hi-Zack was armored with Luna Titanium alloy.

    • @JeffreyPiatt
      @JeffreyPiatt 4 года назад +5

      One of the first new mass production model mobile suits developed by the Earth Federation Forces following the One Year War, the RMS-106 Hi-Zack was closely based on the old Zeon MS-06F Zaku II used during the war. However, it did incorporate modern design features tested in the YRMS-106 Hi-Zack. Protected by lighter titanium alloy/ceramic composite armor, the Hi-Zack's solid weight was greatly reduced, allowing it to carry larger capacity fuel tanks and more powerful thrusters to take advantage of the extra fuel, with the result of greater speed and mobility. The Hi-Zack was also the first mass produced unit to incorporate the new 360-degree panoramic monitor with linear seat style cockpit. The Hi-Zack proved to be a popular model among pilots, as it was easy to operate and maintain. Its only major drawback, however, was the fact that its power generator wasn't good enough to allow it to effectively use multiple beam weapons. Despite this, the Hi-Zack was one of the most heavily mass produced units found in the field during the Gryps Conflict, and its design served as the basis for many future mobile suit models

    its kinda like today, the US is looking to revive the mid tier fighter, even if, in a dogfight, it holds no candle to the top fighters, it will be cheaper to produce, cheaper to refuel and cheaper to maintain. for a massive army, a weapon you cant use because it needs repair is less usefull than one that is only a third as good, but can actually get the job done.

One suits Zeon’s hit-and-run tactics for space battles while the other is enough to discourage the Federation from sending suits underwater. Even then, there are probably mobile suits that can crank out as much speed as the Bigro and can be produced in rapid succession. Why there are still Tank based Mobilesuits? (AFTER OYW, people are ignoring the *"Still"* part in my question)

    • @ValeFline
      @ValeFline 4 года назад +37

      If this is UC-era, I'd assume it's because a lot of the earlier battles of the OYW and even before that, tanks were seen as the mainstay of any military force. By having tank-based mobile suits, it makes it easier for veteran tank pilots or even pilots with a preference for tanks rather than full mobile suits. It would probably also be cheaper and easier to manufacture due to having a tank as a base to work from instead of developing new mobile suits for each situation that arises.

    I've noticed that engineers have generally viewed the Zaku as a fine machine regardless of their personal political opinions, and after the one year war it seems very clear that the federation Pilots got very comfortable with their aquired Zeon mobile suits, so it seems natural that they would be comfortable with a zaku style suit

    I've had a headcannon that part of the reason the Hi-Zack was used by the titans was because it's appearance would be useful in sneaking into the bases and ships of Zeon remnants. Would Zeon remnants realize that Hi-Zack was a federation suit or just assume it was a funky Zaku? That would also explain the color scheme. The job of the Titans was to hunt down Zeon remnants after all.

    • @perotekku

      This makes sense to me. Less sneaking into bases, but remember lots of UC fights are visual range due to Minovsky Particles

      It's clear that hunting Zeon remnants was *never* an actual priority for the Titans leadership, especially Jamitov, who was a closeted Contolist himself. Aside from Axis, which they could've attacked at any time and chose not to, there were also Zeon remnants running around on Earth itself in places like Africa, which the Titans never bothered doing anything about. You can actually draw a parallel to the Syrian civil war, where Assad's Syrian Arab Army was more interested in destroying the Free Syrian Army while mostly leaving ISIS and Al Qaeda alone until they were the only opposition left, since those were the 'unacceptable' alternatives that justified their own heavy-handed regime.

    Question:
    In any of the Gundam Universes, was there ever a case for Mobile Armors or (jets) to be the more practical than Mobile Suits?

    • @nedinnis6752
      @nedinnis6752 4 года назад +26

      Sometimes. In 0079, it was easier to use a jet for reconnaissance and taking out infantry, including Core Fighters, since they were more difficult to spot than your average mobile suit. In water combat, based off of what I saw Mobile Armors are a lot better than Mobile Suits since they're able to rely on more armor and power for beam weaponry.
      In Gundam SEED, there was a weird case there for MAs being better for the Federation since they couldn't figure out how to make a useable MS for normal people. That changed when they got Kira to provide vital data and programming for a new Naturals system so any military personnel could use a mobile suit, and not just Coordinators.

    This is a great one that I've put a lot of thought into myself. You hit a lot of good points I hadn't even considered. I kind of wish Zeta Gundam had stuck with the idea of giving the AEUG the Zeon inspired mobile suits and the Titans the Federation ones. It would have made the whole thing about how the Earth vs. Space conflict gets flipped on its head in Zeta Gundam seem more poignant. Granted it makes the most sense the way they did it. With AEUG taking on the Zeon mobile suit engineers it's not surprising that both sides have a mix of suits from both since there's now a very diverse set of engineers with different backgrounds and different design ideologies at work at the same company.

    In my head cannon this is what happen:
    1. The federation need zeon mobile suit to keep superiority because even fed mobile suit is more advanced zeon mobile suit have more custom and specialized mobile suit that can possibly outgun the standarized fed ms because of that fed ask anaheim to upgrade zeon ms to see how much potential does zeon ms have in order keep the standarized ms more stronger than the zeon counterpart also to integrate the potential on the fed ms if possible so some of the upgraded zeon ms is pushed to the military
    2. For anaheim this give them opportunity to profit while giving fed zeon ms they collect combat data and sell even beter machine to anyone who can buy it because it give the costumer feeling that their ms is the best for example they have hizack and also selling the gm that have better spec to the fed and makes them think our mobile suit is better than zeon but also selling even beter mobile suit to aeug then repeat the process this will keep demands coming and the customer got a feeling they got what they demands

Remember too Zeon had rolled out the Untied Maintenance Plan too. Supposedly it shares a lot of parts with previous Zeon mobile suits, and the other thing I read said something like; Titans are there to fight Zeon remnants, so why not use something like what they have but better, and keep costs low.

    I figured the Hizack was adopted mostly for training purposes. The Titans were created to flush out Zeon remnants, so at the time they were most likely to go up against OYW Zeon suits. Hence, it would make sense if the Titans used a Zeonic-looking suit to practice on, since it would more or less embody what the Titans would be shooting at in live fire scenarios. This also explains why the Titans have their Hizacks colored in Zaku green. Of course, when the Gryps Conflict broke out, the Titans had to deploy every suit they had to contribute to the effort, including Hizacks.

  • @Duchess_Van_Hoof
    @Duchess_Van_Hoof Год назад +1

    There is a pre-Zera manga about a Titans Test Team, and when they get the first Hizack. The pilots are very sceptical, but as their superior points out, Zeon did have a headstart in MS development, and it would be foolish to not learn from them. And when their jury-rigged Gundam is out of action, they are forced to deploy the Hizack. Something the Zeon remnants take very personally.
    And if there is one thing we can say about Anaheim Electronics, it is that they make quality MS Suits. They make AEUG suits based on the stolen Gundam Mk II, and Titans suit based on a stolen Rick Dias. And both sides leave generally good reviews.
    Oh I have to find the anime somewhere, the manga is absolutely fantastic. Love the suits, love the characters, the plot, the conflict, there being three or four factions (+AE).

    I remember reading somewhere that Hizaks were refitted Zakus that were surrendered in mass after the one year war. So thay were refitted to keep up with other MS of the times.

    Hello Kakarot197!
    A question that came up to mind when talking about the Hizack and the Zeon engineers being integrated into Anaheim Electronics. What happened to the Heat Melee Weaponry? I could be wrong, but didn't the Heat Hawk or Gouf Heat sword parry with the Gundam's beam saber? These weapons seem older, thus more cost effective, and seemed to use less energy.

    My headcannon was always that it was to keep maintenance/production costs low in the post-1YW Era, when most of the Federation's funds would be diverted to reconstruction efforts, thus leading to budget cuts to military spending to offset reconstruction costs.
    The Federation doesn't have a war to fight anymore, so a cheap mobile suit that likely has a lot of parts commonality with the Zaku 2 (the most mass produced MS of the 1YW and thus there's probably a TON of Zaku 2 parts scattered around and factories still tooled to produced Zaku 2 parts at the time the war ended) would actually be ideal for them to field a military that can fend off Zeon remnants while still being pretty cost effective for the massive amount of needed post-war reconstruction.
    At the time of the Gryps Conflict, the Federation has clearly started to spend more resources on rearming and fielding newer MS prototypes with better capabilities because of events like operation Stardust, but are still somewhat in the early stages of turning said prototypes into mass production units, hence why much of the Federarion's military (specifically the Titans) are still fielding large quantities of Hizacks.

    6:50 another example would be the Panther since some of its prototypes (the VK30.01/02 [D] specifically) were almost an exact copy of the T-34.

    I do remember in the series 0083 if I'm correct in the second episode Nina being a mobile suit engineer states that the Zaku is a pretty high performance machine, as well as in Gundam Zeta mono eyes seemed to be really efficient optics e.g. The Gaplant and The Hambarbi. So that also maybe we a reason to why the Titans used zeonesk mobile suits as they were pretty much all of the Federation and Zeon tech fused together, in other words the best of both worlds.

    Hi-Zack being my one of my favorite designs along side the Sazabi, Sinanju, Marasai and Xeku Eins.

    I agree with the product dumping but I think it was a move towards standardization as well. The Zeon forces already did that with their units, meaning that their parts could work with newer builds. Now make a federation that could use the zeon parts and you have mass of spar parts allowing you to build an army of newly labeled machines on the cheap and sell them off for a profit

    I've always just figured that the plans and maybe even a prototype design for the Hizack had already been on the minds of Zeonic's top engineers around the end of the one year war as it doesn't seem that much better than a Gelgoog, that it was just easier for them to build it in the Zeonic style than give it a complete design overhaul adding more time and cost to the project when the Fed's really just needed stopgap units until they could come up with something better. Maybe there was also a psychological factor in the design choice seeing as the Titan's would be operating in space hunting rebels you know before they went mad with power as their commanders intended. That someone figured that by giving them a "Spacenoid unit" that Spacenoids civilians would I don't know be more at ease with the more familiar look keeping the peace and you know come to think of it it's also a perfect unit for false flag ops.

    I just saw the Hizack as a mix of leftover parts. We have the Zaku Production line building so many of them and suddenly stopped and we have the GM production line. For example sovjets made 50k T34 Tanks between 1940 and 1940. and americans idk how many Sherman’s. So they just used these 2 assembly Lines + some improvements and the Hizack was born. Federation itself probably didn’t want that suit because it looks how it looks but the titans didn’t care they wanted a cheap suit to produce
