  • We go into some of the many aspects and tell tale signs of what is and what isn't genuine when it comes to Garrett GT3582R turbochargers. In fact many Garrett turbochargers are misconstrued to be genuine just because of an end housing having the Garrett name on it. This doesn't mean that the turbo is in fact genuine - we go into a basic outline of what is going on in the industry and what to do if you have a suspicion about whether a turbocharger you might have your eye on, is in fact genuine or not.

    Based on my limited experience, I think the only 100% safe way to buy authentic parts is to buy them through authorized distributors or if possible through resellers that you know buy/drop-ship from authorized distributors. Everywhere else is the Wild West. I might take a chance on a good deal on a $200 blow-off valve on Ebay, but not on something as mission-critical and expensive as a BB Garrett or BW turbo.

    There is a brand called pulsar and they copy Garrett and Borg Warner turbo chargers how do they stack up against the real deal they seem to be pretty good I would love to see a video on that

    It is a great content for buyers around . It does happens with people keep looking for cheap goods . A truly modified turbo will cost 1000usd . Because the labour and parts cost involved.

    Watched a few videos, Dude is passionate about turbos. Chinese turbos aren't all that bad, we boosting on std internals, 35k for a turbo is never in the plan.

    • @TurboDirectSA
      @TurboDirectSA  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for the compliment - chinese turbos are absolute junk - especially when you do a side by side comparison in many scenarios. Boosting a stock engine is easy going on the turbo. Build a forged engine and run massive boost on a chinese turbo next to something reputable, and youll start to see what i mean.
      Take a copy paperweight, and do bearing analysis after just a dyno session and youll be surprised. The perception of the chinese turbos being good is created by the "tooners" who make money selling these to you, they will always be the ambassador of their profit income.

      I disagree with you ! I blew my original garret gt3582, it made 490hp at the wheels
      I now have a pulsar gtx3584 and making 645hp, for years now ! And it’s fine !
      These pulsar turbos are everywhere in Australia , they are affordable and proven in the modified car scene
      And better yet they are 4 times cheaper !!

      I have done back to back testing with Pulsar through a customer of mine on a VW 1.8 20V - the turbo was our G28R-660 (which is our latest hybrid combination of the GTX28R turbine and modified G-series compressor) against the pulsar copied G25-660, we spool faster, and make more power and our product is slightly less money - Thats all i can comment for now - we will be doing testing back to back and sharing this on youtube soon.

    Hi, i have a question about how Garrett are rating their turbos, example: gtx3584rs is rated 1000 hp with 90 lbs/min. max. compressor flow, if i calculate rapidly, 90x10hp/lbs per min. = 900 hp , not 1000hp, compared to the g35-1050, who is rated at 1050 hp, but 100 lbs per minute who is much closer to a reel calculation of 100lbs/min. X 10 = about 1000 hp, am i right or i forget something in my approach with Garrett hp advertises ??

    • @TurboDirectSA
      @TurboDirectSA  3 года назад +3

      Great question -- In some of my other videos i mention that one of the reasons i prefer the EFR range of turbochargers over Garrett is the fact that the flow maps provided in writing are 100% correct and accurate. Garrett have begun to make claims that are most definitely not accurate in terms of an X10 measurement on the compressor stages. for every 10lb/mon of air flow you expect to make around 100HP (ENGINE HP) I have not seen an UNCORRECTED dyno run showing a GTX3584RS making 1000HP. Most i have seen is 870HP, most likely because of our altitude, but not ever 1000HP. The same goes for the newer G-series turbochargers, In fact we see the GTX Gen2 making the same power (apples with apples e.g GTX3076R Gen2 vs G30-770)
      Next obvious question is = "Is the G-series worth the extra money?" In my opinion No as the GTX Gen2 is proven.

    I had a really quick look through Amazon and think I found one that looks fake. The turbine and compressor housings say Garrett on them but not the bearing housing. The castings are also really rough and not up to what you would expect. The compressor cover is not the same as you get from a licenced distributor and the part number 772719-5001S is for one specific assembly that has a 0.89 turbine housing. They also list different part numbers as previous version 772719-5002S and 772719-5003S that are two different assemblies with 0.99 and 1.11 turbine housings respectively and 751451-5012S that is the CHRA.

    • @TurboDirectSA
      @TurboDirectSA  3 года назад

      The 772719-5002S is a turbocharger that is ancient, and only capable of 675HP - this is NOT a GT3582R it is a GT3788R, which is a genuine Garrett IF IT HAS ITS NAME PLATE AND CONFORMS TO THE DESIGN SPECIFICATION ACCORDING TO THE GARRETT CATALOGUE.

    What do you think of the xona turbos?

    • @TurboDirectSA
      @TurboDirectSA  2 года назад +2

      From the experience on a dyno with a Golf7R running one back to back with EFR - not that impressed. It does not produce any more power than the EFR, does not spool faster, runs hotter (bearing housing) and costs more than the EFR -- not worth the money in my opinion. The main stream products still take the cake.

      @@TurboDirectSA I feel like if Xona are really confident in their UHF technology, why don't they have multiple dyno graphs of side by side runs with the UHF and classic turbine wheels? Otherwise how do we know it does anything except look interesting?

    Where are Garrett turbos made? Google says China.

    • @TurboDirectSA
      @TurboDirectSA  2 года назад +1

      Like all turbocharger manufacturers, the raw components are sourced from foundries, and then sent to engineering companies to finish and prepare for installation. Then these are shipped to the relevant "manufacturing" plants for assembly and testing - these testing centres appear in many countries, China being one of their main plants in shanghai, i have personally visited this factory in person. Another is in Cheadle in the UK, i have also worked on the VNT assembly line in this factory in 2010.
