I am a history professor and just made a 5 minute overview lecture for my students about the Manhattan project and Oppenheimer. I hope the movie is good and historically accurate. I enjoyed the Dunkirk movie he made several years ago.
Nice. I wonder if your students realize what was accomplished without anything close to today's technology, that most of it was created with pen and paper.

WHERE ARE ALL THE SETS FROM CHRISTOPHER NOLAN'S FILMS? This would be the coolest attraction in the world! Imagine: riding on the Endurance spacecraft or the Interstellar planes, visiting Cooper's house, hanging in the Tesseract like the main character, driving the Batmobile and having a drink in its cave, walking through the spinning room in Inception, strolling through the town of Oppenheimer. Just imagine. Where is all of this?
Love listening to Cillian the man talk about his creative process in all this. He steps into his roles with such focus and discipline that you wonder what his own distinctive characteristics might be. Joe, you created a comfortable space for Cillian and Chris to come forward as people while sharing an amazing experience. Cant wait to see this movie!
@@pc4mlc451 Thank goodness no. The energy inside a hurricane is so extraordinary, there is no nuclear weapon in existence even remotely close to be able to to anything about it. All you would do, is to create a nuclear fallout hurricane, which is a very VERY bad idea.
I am very surprised that tRUMP didn’t have a role in this film. He would have been the best Groves, strong burly men who had never cried a day in their lives would weep at his portrayal of a general and say, “sir…”
There was an unfounded fear that a fusion reaction might occur between Nitrogen atoms in the atmosphere. Nitrogen atoms might fuse and transform into Magnesium and Heluium or else into Oxygen and Carbon. N14 + N14 → Mg24 + He4, or N14 + N14 → O16 + C12 If that happened the entire atmosphere would become a nuclear inferno. (The atmosphere is 78% Nitrogen and only 20% Oxygen) Luckily (for us and the fish) it was found not to be possible.
I'll be there on opening day at the IMAX in Edinburgh. I really hope this is a big success as we need more movies for grown-ups. Even with Netflix, I feel like they are making things mainly for kids and teenagers. I understand that it is mainly younger people who go to the cinema but surely streaming could cater a little more to older folks. Sorry for the whine and I've nothing against Disney movies for kids, I'd just like some more challenging fair. I also feel that we need to stop promoting violence to kids. The fact that practically every kid's movie has superheroes etc punching people to solve problems cannot be good for society, as violent as it is already. Whoops that turned into a lecture.
Wow, I just realized realized General Groves was around 46ish when Manhattan Project started. But Matt Damon was 50ish when portraying him. Where did the time go??
I'm excited for this. This will be good but only somewhat historically accurate. The fact that Cillian (1:53) who "ate an almond and had a bath" rather than hanging with the crew feels like method acting since bathtub row is a thing in Los Alamos. The only houses to have a bath were on the same street, thus bathtub row. (Bathtub Row Brewery is great) Los Alamos wasn't in a desert. It's in a mountain range called the Jemez. The set was set up 'romantically' (9:37) near Los Alamos I grew up their. I lost my house in the Cerro Grande Fire. It's one of the most unique places in the USA. The movie will probably be very good, but the town they show here isn't even close. Also (7:41) 'All you can do in Los Alamos is drink and have children.' That's kinda accurate over 50 years later. And she's talking about a top secret city you can't leave. Your children's place of birth would be a PO Box in Santa Fe.
Also: Don't go to crowded summer concerts or events while wearing open toe sandals. You're asking for a broken toe, or you'll be a useless runner if you need to move fast.
Great interview! Will see this in a couple of days … really looking forward to it. Joe … nice job with this. Totally different from Morning Joe. Nice to see and like another side of you.

It's no Dunkirk. If you are going to do a 3 hour biopic it had better be cinematic, which this film is not. I walked out shortly after the Trinity sequence. This is a made for tv courtroom drama. There is so much wrong with this film Oppenheimer likely turned in his grave. For one thing, the challenge of story structure when dealing with real life subject matter proved too much for Nolan. This movie is an hour too long.
