Lol I can just hear that red male when he noticed all of the giant eggs. “But HOW did this happen?! I was so thorough! I KNOW I got them all! Must get them to the nest...”
Awesome vid! That daddy betta fostering those eggs was cool and good to know you can do that! First shrimp was fire red grade, which is pretty much the same as sakuras. Painted reds have the painted mark on them as if some one painted a streak on them.
Thanks for stopping by during your busy day, @L.R.Bretz's Aquatics! Thanks for the shrimp tips, I'm still getting used to the different neo color grades. In my tank I have ONE bloody mary red and for the life of my I still can't tell which one is which. Or maybe it quietly died somewhere and I'm puzzling myself for no reason.
Np, glad I stopped by to watch. Yours Truly mentioned to me you had a shrimp question in your vid and I should check it out, glad I did that was a great vid. Best way to distinguish a bloody mary is they have the color in the body with more transparent shell. Other reds have the color on the shell.
L.R.Bretz's Aquatics awesome, thanks man. I'll have a closer look tomorrow to see if I can distinguish them. That was mighty kind of @Yours Truly to let you know I had a question :)
That eclipse was so cool! I actually watched it as I drove to my first semester of college and now I am watching it again right after graduation. What a great reminder 😊
Yay! Thank you for showing us. Keep posting videos, they're really informative and fun to watch. Ignore the negative people - I don't think they fully understand what is the 'reality' of your common breeder and I enjoy your videos immensely!
Taylor holy crap! First of all the eclipse was amazing, I didn't get to see it. Secondly you are totally welcome!!! I'm sharing these cultures with a bunch of breeders and I am glad yours made it there safely, thank your grandpa from me for his part in their making it!! Your giants are amazing and your juveniles are gorgeous. Would you ever consider selling a few to me? I am having the hardest time finding decent fish to work with. My last two male purchases were not as I expected (nothing wrong with the fish just not what I had thought they would be) and I'm getting really fed up buying from people I don't know and don't know if I can trust. No pressure, just know I'd love to buy from you someday.
Hi +Big City Bettas! I would absolutely send a few bettas your way if some were to strike your fancy! Hopefully by the time I have some good ones I will have already made my image libraries for some fun genealogy trees, so that way the parents and lineages would be easy to see. I totally nerd out on that kind of stuff, but I'm still not that great at taking photos of them. Fish pics are hard! I bought a light box to help with my dim household lighting, now I just need bright white bulbs and I can start playing around with my DSLR camera a bit more :)
Simply Betta Haha you already are putting out some really nice ones!! Your little marble plakat is too cute, he was just shaking it for all he was worth! Super excited and too damn funny! I wish I had a decent camera and equipment but that isn't in the cards right now. Can't wait to see what other great things you do. I have so enjoyed watching your fish room grow!
I actually have a friend who does high fashion photography (Cosmo, Vogue, etc) and he got started as a betta breeder trying to take pics of his fish, because they're extremely difficult to photograph.
Oh, geeze! Haha yeah they are super tough to get nice pics of! Well I guess if you want to get good at something, go straight for the hardest stuff, right? ^^
I love this video so much! All your tanks, your organization, fry, and everything!😍😍 i just want to say, ive had a bit of experience with shrimp and fry, and i just want to warn you that the shrimp will eventually try to hunt the fry, esp if they are small! Good luck with your spawns!
They did hatch! A bunch were infertile (as I suspected, a lot of the wraps left the female facing the wrong way!) but many did hatch. Can't wait for them to grow grow grow!
Not sure if anyone has recommended/said this to you or not, but for bubble nests it's much better to use the bottom portion of the styrofoam cup (cutting it at about 1-1.5 in) as opposed to cutting it in half and using that. Using the bottom portion of the cup you get more stability in the bubble nest, your male has to repair the nest less, it confines the fry to a smaller area reducing the amount the male has to swim to catch falling fry/eggs, also if you were to ever need to do any water changes/move the nest/eggs you can simply just take a small bowl and scoop out the whole nest.
To make it easier and less chance of the jars moving, have you thought of using that white shelf liner like i see at amazon (or elsewhere I am sure) "Duck Brand Select Grip Easy Liner Non-Adhesive Shelf Liner, 12 in. x 20 ft., White ". I have used that in a bunch of our kitchen cabinets and other places and it is thick enough that something somewhat heavy compresses it and the items stay put. Fun update, glad you could see the eclipse :)
I have never had any interest in betta fish, and yet here I am, finding myself emotionally invested in the spawning success of some giant bettas. I am on the edge of my seat. Why? Who knows. I'm glad the babies are doing well.
Hah! Thanks Maria. The spawn went very well but I didn't get any giant bettas from it - I think the female wasn't a true giant then. I'm trying in generation 2 now!
Just curious - would you ever consider trying to sell your fish online / to subscribers? Not sure if you'd be able to do that, but I would love to get some females that have been raised together and do a future sorority. :) I love your work and I think you were very smart in handling the giant betta eggs!
Yeah, I think I will. I don't have a lot of fish at the moment, but once I have a bigger variety I think I will open an online store and offer the best ones out of each batch. And also sorority packs :)
So exciting! We plan to turn our 65g into a sorority tank after we make our move next summer (don't want to move across state lines with too many aquatic pets!). I will definitely be keeping an eye on your site. PS. LOVE the foster dad idea. So ingenious. Who woulda thunk bettas could be such eager daddies?
The Eclips in the Panhandle of Florida was really cool. You know how they say to take a box, make a hole in it and look at the reflection? Well we live in a forest and all the light holes coming through the leaves of the trees shine half moon shapes on the road. We didn't go dark, but it was an eerie kind of redish yellow hew, so everything looked a little off colored. It was over in about 20 minutes but it was great.
Really enjoying your channel and content! What a great dad! What do you do with all of the fry when they reach maturity? I saw in another vid you sell some to your LFS - do you sell to other hobbyist?
I've been seeing the "ok" ones to my LFS and the best ones to those who are interested locally. I will start offering my best ones for sale on my website when my current spawns grow up
Used to love Bettas while growing up but could never keep them alive for a month or longer. Ready to get back into it now since I got internet to help me succeed on information
I guess Bettas can be foster parents, too. Black males tend to eat their first spawn or two, before getting it right. While I believe that he is a copper male, he does appear to have black in him. The fish room looks great. The spawns and juveniles look great. Two thumbs way, way up!!! 👍👍👍👍👍🐟🐟🐟🐟
Such a cool video, I have a Betta so I love watching the videos and relating. And I'm sorry, completely irrelevant but the person presenting is hella cute 😍
Such a great tip to use a foster dad used to breed betta and just getting back into it want to breed giants and know the problems u get with them eating their eggs
I literally just found this channel, so I went to look for an update on these fostered fry but I don't see one. Does any one know what happened to the giant Betta fry? I would like to see their colors and sizes.
OMGSH!! I found your channel by mistake but man am I hooked!! I LOVE Beta fish but really know nothing except to keep m & f apart to not fight! At least that's what the pet store said. 😃 You are amazing with your set up!! I will learn so much from you so the next time I decide to get another Beta it will be a knowledgeable choice instead of just color!! I'm truly HAPPY I stumbled upon you!!😆😆😆😆😆
I have a small tank like the one that you have in the background at 4:36 in the lower corner, however mine doesn't have a lid. Did yours come with that lid? I'm a new fish and new betta owner, and just learned that bettas can jump.
Very cool seeing the Eclipse I could only see about 70% in eastern washington. That red betta is definitely earning his keep. Hope the eggs are fertile! :)
that red male "DADDY" does deserve a great tank!
His retirement tank will be the BEST.
This is so interesting to watch how the male takes on the eggs as his own! You have some beautiful Bettas too, good luck with the fry! x
Thank you !
Lol I can just hear that red male when he noticed all of the giant eggs. “But HOW did this happen?! I was so thorough! I KNOW I got them all! Must get them to the nest...”
😍❤❤🥺🥺😍😍🥺💕
I almost cried when the red male actually put the eggs in his nest! 😂 What a sweet boy!
the best daddy award goes to the red betta fish😁😀👏👏👏👏👏
Omg the foster dad did amazing
Awww that red betta is such a good daddy! That is soooo cute!
I love him, such a good boy. Extra treats for him
Simply Betta Will You Name Him?
Yep, his name is "Daddy" now. He earned a name.
Neon Tetra Aquarist I literally see u commenting on every fish/shrimp related video..
Adi Haiman I get around😉
As soon as he picked up the eggs i shrieked out "good boy!" And my husband looked at me like i was nuts! Lol
Hah!
Is the giant betta going to pay child support?
Haha that made me chuckle ;)
Lol
IT “BETTA”
LOL
@@noahmorrison421oh noo 😂😂😂
We were in the path of about 80% eclipse and it was super cloudy.. so thank you for sharing this!
Creative Pet Keeping i got a full eclipse
That's too bad! Oh well, it was a neat few seconds but not the end of the world ;)
Simply Betta i got a full eclipse to it Was SO COOL btw its called the path of totality
Slothz I'm going to feed my cousins betta a Raisin I'm sure the fish will enjoy it
Last year's eclipse I was in the path of totality. People from japan, uk, etc. were in western ky!!!
wow I think you just taught everyone what to do when bettas eat the eggs that's so cool never knew you could do that.
+Keshia Decker haha, I didn't know either! ;)

@@SimplyBetta would it be ok to send you a baby betta when I breed mine if so do you have a p.o box
I love how much you care for your fish, and you want them to have the most space for comfort
put a "worlds best dad" mug in the red betta's retirement tank.
This is very touching how you express your effection for bettas
d'aww
That eclipse was so cool! I actually watched it as I drove to my first semester of college and now I am watching it again right after graduation. What a great reminder 😊
I really enjoyed the update today! It was so neat to see the surrogate betta process lolol. I am so excited to watch the new fry grow~
Thanks for watching! I was pretty surprised the foster dad idea worked, haha.
The eclipse looked amazing. I'm glad that you and your family was able to experience it.
Yay! Thank you for showing us. Keep posting videos, they're really informative and fun to watch. Ignore the negative people - I don't think they fully understand what is the 'reality' of your common breeder and I enjoy your videos immensely!

Your videos on bettas are very interesting
Thank you for all the amazing efforts you put in
Thank for recording that eclipse shots..that mean a lot to me..
Your Bettas are so cool! I really hope the giant betta will hatch under daddy's care :) great video!
Thank you! A bunch of the giant eggs did hatch, but I won't know how many until they have grown quite a bit :)
Wow this is a great channel! Glad I found it.
The eclipse was amazing.

Thank you for your content, very informative and I love your homebrew approach.
Appreciate it!:)
The foster dad betta is a pure cinnamon roll 😊
He wins the best dad of the world award
Haha thank you, he is a good boy
Well dang! that was sooo cool Bettas are so very amazing I cant wait to see if the giants hatch with there foster dad.

Thats amazing im so happy he took in the eggs 💙 hopefully theyll all hatch
A bunch did for sure!
Such a good step-daddy. Good thing you have him.
Wow!!! That red Betta is awesome and your techinique to use his daddy powers was impressive!!
Isn't he the best?!

Oh right, I had not thought of that. Would give my shelving some padding, good idea!
That white male betta is one of the most active betta fish I have ever seen
Aww I love that red Betta he is such a good dad.
I named him "daddy", haha
My sister buys IKEA led strips that are ready to connect.
Fascinating video. The surrogate betta dad idea was pure genius. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! :)
The red betta is so nice and a good dad
I know this is a little late, I just watchef this vid now, but I gotta say that the red betta is a true real proud dad! Best dad in the world! ❤

Thanks for the giant betta spawn footage!!

Thanks for finding me and stopping by!
Nice update. Wish I was near where the eclipse was happening. Subbed.
Thanks, Fishman!

Good idea! Feel free to ask questions
What a good Betta foster dad😃😃😃 That red Betta has a good heart❤❤
So cool, my Husband is a hobby astronomer and traveled to Oregon to see it with his younger brother. :)
Chrissy Polans then I bet he loved it!
Simply Betta completely.. He's rarely expressive and he was all "it was so cool!!!"
You got a great shot of it! I barely saw it,I wish I would have seen a BETTA eclipse!😂😂😂
Hah thanks, glad you liked it :)
I did not know there was such a thing as giant bettas...omgosh new obsession.
I like the foam cup idea I'm going to try it out
That eclipse moment makes me emotional.
You rocked this vid in every way!
Thanks a bunch! Appreciate you following along with my vids :)
I'm in absolute awe of that red male. He's such a good daddy. He should get special treatment, brilliant fish!
He is the teacher's pet in my fish room ;)
Omg the halfmoon dad is forstering the giant betta eggs. That's soo cool
isn't it! :D
enjoy your channel ty
Thanks for the video!! This has helped me a lot as well as show me a lot! Loved it thanks!

What cool foster parent fish! I just call my dwarf shrimps, Red Cherry Shrimps. Lol. But, I am aware of the different red varieties.
Yeah the different color grades get so confusing
He's such a good dad! Oh my gosh!
Yeah, what a good boy!
Such a cool video, I have a Betta so I love watching the videos and relating. And I'm sorry, completely irrelevant but the person presenting is hella cute 😍
Hehe, you charmer!

wow you have beautiful bettas!! I will watch more of your videos everything looks interesting :))
The mason jar intro is more amusing if you close your eyes and picture she's talking about chopped up humans xD
I have to admit this is the video that made me sub!
This video was really helpful thanks!
0:36 dude, that is an awesome creek. i’ve always wanted a creek and like a koi pond.

Very interesting videos, good luck with all the spans! Where did you get 2 gallon plastic jars?
ccw plastics in the small orders section
I'm amazed at the red males parental sense. Well done you Daddy!
He does deserve a spacious retirement, imo.👍😊
This was a very cool and interesting video, excellent video I loved it!
