  • Sunday April 24 2022 at 11.55. Norbiton is the area east of the centre of Kingston upon Thames where I was born and lived until I was 21. About 11,000 people live here. The video starts in Hawks Road and turns right into Cambridge Road. Kingston Tyres is one of just 4 businesses that have been here all my life. The building next to that used to be part of the Workhouse. Cambridge Garden Flats remain but the 'new' 1970's Cambridge Road estate on the right is to be demolished and replaced with housing for 3 times as many people. The video resumes in Dickerage Lane, a turning on the left. The humped bridge over the railway used to be two way and was a scary part of the driving test route. The shops after that are the Triangle. Dickerage Road is cut and the video starts again in Coombe Lane West, passing the west edge of Kingston Hospital and turning into Norbition Station. Opposite the exit is Kingston Registry Office. The railway bridge has sliced the top off several buses over the years. After that Jarvis the fishmonger and Jefferies the butchers remain. Everything else has changed. At the end of Coombe Road we join London Road. Norbiton bus garage was where Wickes is now, Norbiton Hall flats are on the right and Norbiton (St Peter's) Church is on the left. Finally we turn into Cambridge Road passing what used to be Norbiton Schools on the right. The video ends at the Hawks Road junction see saw earlier. As you can see the local Council have been busy wasting money and creating congestion. The thumbnail is of what used to be Pawnbrokers. A 2011 version of this video can be found here: • A drive through Norbiton

Very nostalgic for me - I lived in Albert Road from 2005 until two years ago. Good to see familiar places.
