  • Shaping a board for a close friend who is moving to Tonga. I can't wait to hear how it surfs. This is also my first time trying a resin swirl. Thanks for watching!

      Cheeeyewww! I’ve been looking at ticket costs to Chicago. If it stays this cheap I’m hopefully going to hand deliver.

    Very Nice board ! 👌👌
    Is this the egg B template from blending curves ?
    Your last shortboard is sick as well !
    Thank you very much 👍

      I believe it was the egg B but I pulled in the tail a bit and maybe even the nose? I’ll have to watch back to remember. My memory is not very good 😅

    I see you hung your vacuum hose. The shop is really coming together.
    I have no idea how you’re pumping out boards and videos so quickly.

    • @paulzeye_surfboards
      @paulzeye_surfboards  6 месяцев назад +1

      I did! I actually rehung it since the video. Thanks for noticing. Now if I can just keep the shop more organized and clean.
      I am trying it out full time for a bit! And also getting that UV system for curing lets me do all the glassing in a day or two! It’s the biggest game changer!

    Like your boards and your shaping bay is awesome.what sort of power planer and blade ,barrel do u use.???

    • @paulzeye_surfboards
      @paulzeye_surfboards  6 месяцев назад

      Thanks Steve!
      I am currently using a modified when that’s semi broken. I dropped it and cracked the shoe and the adjustment knob doesn’t function properly. I ordered a new shoe for $10 and the local shop I bought it from offered to fix it for free (this one time)! It has just the normal stock blades. I’d like to try the barrel one day, but those are ridiculously expensive. The blades seem to work fine for now.
      I just need to focus on getting better with the planer.

    Hey man loving the videos! Those P100 particulate filters are not really doing anything for your when you are glassing. You probably want to get some combination 3m Organic Vapor Cartridges, P100 that work for particulates and VOCs. Breathing polyester resin fumes isn't great for ya!

    • @paulzeye_surfboards
      @paulzeye_surfboards  6 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks Eric! I have been meaning to purchase a 3M 5200 but they are a bit costly. I figured the P100 is probably better than nothing for now (but probably not doing much tbh).
      That will be my next purchase! And eventually build in an exhaust fan. Thanks for the concern 🙏🏽 I really appreciate it 🙂

    Try and hold your planer knob lower, having your pinky rest on the blank while you shape.

      @paulzeye_surfboards  6 месяцев назад

      Okay, I will definitely try that. Thank you! I recently saw a shaping video where he made a mod so he can get closer to the foam. Does it give better control and feel?

    Nice looking board! Using the UV to set the boxes is interesting. Are you sure the UV is able to cure the resin below the box?

    • @paulzeye_surfboards
      @paulzeye_surfboards  5 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you sir 🙏🏽 I added hardener to it as well so that it cures below the box. I just use the UV to help quicken the process on the surface so I can keep working on it. That’s how I was informed to do it by Dave Chun - he’s a shaper down in Southern Oregon that’s been shaping I think for 40+ years. I believe he is close friends with Jerry Lopez and they shape together from time to time 🤯
      I learn a lot from your videos BTW! Thanks for sharing all your knowledge 🙏🏽
      Cheers 🍻

      @@paulzeye_surfboards that's the way! So good to get tips from a guy with that many years of experience. I think he makes a lot of SUPs and wakeboards now if I'm thinking of the same guy?
      Love your setup, I've wanted to make a UV box like that for a long time now! Been experimenting with the UV poly for repairs the last few weeks, really good for backpackers repairs who want them the same or next day!
      Unreal, so glad they've helped. Definitely subscribed to you now, look forward to the next one! 🤙

      @smallkinedings thanks for subscribing mate! I got lucky to get connected with Dave. He shared a lot of his knowledge. I believe he shapes river boards mostly, but he may very well shape those too!
      I recommend the UV set up. It can get pricey, but I bought all the lights used and saved tons of 💰
      It’s too cold in my shop to not have it - if I want to shape at a decent frequency. Otherwise one board would take me a week plus! I can now glass a board start to finish in a day! Huge game changer.
      Been slow with the uploads lately due to material constraints and weather, but I got one in the works. Keep up the good work on your end 👊🏽

    Great work! Board looks sick! What resin do you use in combination with what foam? And how long does it take to cure with the UV lights?

    • @paulzeye_surfboards
      @paulzeye_surfboards  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hey! Thank you 🙏🏽 This board I used a Polyurethane foam with poly resin. With darker resin tint I found it takes about 20-25 minutes to cure where it’s perfect to cut the lap and when I’m using clear resin it takes about 15-20 minutes to fully cure. Hot coat I can get both sides prepped and cured within an hour and get to sanding! Hope this helps!

    • @Dzjiefoils
      @Dzjiefoils 6 месяцев назад

      @@paulzeye_surfboards Thanks for your quick reply.
      thats sick! I always use epoxy and eps but it takes me so long to finish a board. I have to wait 24h till the epoxy is fully cured. 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️ so definitely worth a try. Where did you buy the lamps?

    • @paulzeye_surfboards
      @paulzeye_surfboards  6 месяцев назад

      @Dzjiefoils of course.
      I actually was using epoxy too and found it was harder to shape than PU and the resin was 2-3x the cost of polyester resin. So I decided to try pu foam with poly resin.
      I’m not sure if epoxy resin can use uv catalyst or not but poly resin definitely can.
      I bought fluorescent t5 lights used on facebook marketplace for $40 a piece for the top ones and $25 a piece for the bottom ones. I’m sure Craigslist would work too. I think it would’ve taken me a lot longer to save for new ones. The lights can get pretty pricey. I also tried buying LED t5s and those did not work at all.
