For Anakin, his emotional attachment to Padmé is what corrupts him. Sidious pushed those pieces ever so slightly in the direction he wanted until Anakin felt like he had no choice but to turn.
Bode tried that too; to use Cal's feelings for Merrin against him and manipulate him as he wanted. But it backfired because Cal and Merrin are each other's anchors.
It's only because of Cal that Merrin left Dathomir and charted her own course. It's only because of him that she began to let go of the strangling anger and grief that had haunted her since childhood.
It's Merrin that helps Cal find himself when he's lost in that same darkness she was once lost in. It's her that rescues him as he once rescued her.
They're stronger together and always have been. Our emotional attachments can be detrimental, yes, but they can also bring out the best in us.

It's not so much the attachment itself that is the problem, it's the fear of loss. Anakin was terrified of losing Padme and that fear caused him to spiral to the dark side. With Cal, he's afraid of losing HIMSELF, but like you said, Merrin was his anchor and his attachment to her is what brought him back and reminded him who he really was.
I really hope the next game finds some way for these two to have a happy ending. We've seen enough tragedy in Star Wars
@@leynaripley5250 Because of what happened to Anakin, I always admired Obi-Wan for living the no attachment jedi lifestyle. But my two favourite Star Wars couples (Ben and Rey & Cal and Merrin) both include a jedi in each of these pairings. It'd be really cool to see Cal and Merrin live happily ever after and change my mind that Jedi's can get married after all haha
@stargirledits I mean, it worked in the EU, so why not? Personally, I'm hoping that Cal and Merrin by the end of the next game realise its far too dangerous for them to stick around and they go into hiding together. It would explain why you don't see/hear from them in the OT, and they get their happily ever after.
And they raise a whole new generation of Nightsister babies (if they're Nightsisters rather than Jedi it means they don't get shipped off to Luke's school as students and ultimately slaughtered - gotta keep that happy ending!)

It’ll be a nice to see Cal proposed to Merrin in the third game. Like outside of Pyloon’s Saloon on Koboh Cal goes down on one knee and propose to Merrin a ring that is made of Kyber crystal from the cave at the Jedi Temple on Ilum. Cal would say “Merrin, will you married me? Together as husband and wife forever?” And then Merrin would emotionally say “Yes, Cal. I will married you.” Cal puts a Kyber crystal ring on Merrin’s fourth finger and then the two of them kiss.
I hope at least ONE Star Wars couple will have their happy ending and I hope this couple will be Cal and Merrin

Speaking of happy ending, I still love to see Cal and Merrin get married at the wedding ceremony on Tanalorr in the ending scene of the third game. Although I can pictured Cal would be wearing a ceremonial Jedi robes, Merrin would be wearing a beautiful Nightsister dress, Kata would be the flower girl, Greez as the priest, BD as the best droid, and everyone from Koboh are guests. Also Jaro Tapal, Cere and Cordova as ghosts would see Cal marrying Merrin. They would be proud and happy for the two of them.
