You're right about this music being significant, because this is the final boss BGM(Phase 2, if I remember correct) And yes, the fog is a weather condition. Persona 4 takes place in a Japanese rural town and some different dimension inside televisions. The dimension is always foggy so the heroes need special glass to see through. Later in the game, the fog leaks into the real world and the town becomes foggy like silent hill. The fog is a manifestation of the final boss's power and intent to 'cover up the truth', because apparently human desires to look away from the truth and only see whatever they want to believe.
This song is great. I'm probably a heavy minority here, but by comparison, I don't care for the majority of The Genesis (though The Battle for Everyone's souls would have been a really tough act to follow in terms of final boss themes imo)
The simplest way to put it is that Shoji Meguro just makes music with purpose. No matter the track, there's always something to convey, whether it's strength, determination, sadness, relaxation, nostalgia (via leitmotifs), or any other emotion you can feel, it's there. The Persona games are outstanding in their own right, but I'd say the music is the glue that bonds everything and makes the story and character moments so memorable. Don't let the runtime discourage you from dipping your toes in if you feel like it may be up your alley. The games are massive, but DEFINITELY worth the time. 5 is a good, accessible starting point, and what most people who are new to the series start with
When watching the actual dance routine that the second song goes with, it says a lot about the story for the characters involved, just from the animation.
My favorite Persona 4 ost. Definitely a "this is it" song, facing the real culprit once and for all along with your friends one last time, this one is beyond epic. This, "The Almighty" and "The Battle for Everyone's Souls" are my favorite boss songs in any Persona game.
I like that you immediately compared it to The Battle for Everyone Soul, because both play at the final boss of each game (the first being Persona 3 and The Fog Persona 4). It goes to show how much of the storytelling is in Persona music. Not only they fit the moment in-game, but they express the story itself.
I mostly associate this song as what plays when you land character's Instant Kill move in Persona 4 Arena and Ultimax. First time hearing that Atlus Konishi remix, that was incredible!
It has been my mission to All Night/King Crazy (hardest difficulty, great/perfect notes only) this track in P4D and it's insanely hard, the upside is it's a banger so the constant retries never get old.
Yea, Shoji Meguro let loose when SMT3 came out. He stated in an interview how he was excited to really showcase the sound quality of the PS2 era. That's why he ends up making so many guitar tracks and variations on battle themes to fit all sorts of environments. Dude had something to prove and boy did he.
17:10 . So true, truth to be told. Cause they're so flexing about it, there's some ost that really good just over 40 seconds and it's only played one time for one scene on the game. It's from Persona 3 with the title Invocation. If i'm not wrong. This song really just played one time and it's super good that will stuck at your head and also this ost played on kinda big time scene. So it just memorable and you will not get any of it in the future on the game. That's one of the example how can they flex on us with their music
Jesse's Rockin' it, huh? Both versions sound amazing. Also, what's the background music at around 11:25? "The Battle for Everyone's Souls" is a final boss theme from Persona 3 / FES / Portable.
Fun Fact: at 1:38, the track has a leitmotif of Persona 4's Battle Results track. So not only is the track hype, you already associate that part with victory.
Definitely would love to see Backside of the TV (as well as the remix from the dancing game) if you ever come back to these. Been really enjoying going through your persona music reactions and I hope you keep doing them
Just randomly thought about the P4 OST a couple of hours ago. I still can't believe (well, I kinda do as I've beaten the game when it came to PS2) that "Heartbeat, Heartbreak" is a world map song. Edit: P2: Eternal Punishment's "Map I" doesn't have any lyrics, but is also an awesome world map song in the series.
With how well the Persona soundtracks have been utilized and how core they are to the series, I can't help but wonder if a P6 is on the horizon and if the OST will live up to the high bar of its' predecessors.
Persona 4 is one of my favorite RPGs out there, and the music is pretty great, too~! While 'The Fog' isn't one of my fav tracks, it's still quite solid with everything else in the soundtrack.
in Persona 4, the fog, as in the weather condition, is the deadline timer, you gotta keep an eye on the weather reports, every case you gotta handle has to be solved before the week or fog, otherwise is a gameover
If you want to just pin this or copy it for reference on how persona as a series works, here's a breakdown: There are 3 sets of persona games. 1 the main releases 2 the enhanced re-releases 3 the canon spinoffs. An example would be Persona 5 is the base release, persona 5 Royal is the enhanced re-release, and Persona 5 Scramble is the canon spinoff. The main games are: Revelations Persona (PS1) Persona 2 Innocent Sin (PS1) Persona 2 Eternal Punishment (PS1) Persona 3 (PS2) Persona 4 (PS2) Persona 5 (PS3/4) The enhanced re-releases are: SMT Persona (PSP) SMT Persona 2 Innocent Sin (PSP) SMT Persona 2 Eternal Punishment (PSP) Persona 3 FES (PS2) Persona 3 Portable (PSP) Persona 4 Golden (Ps Vita) Persona 5 Royal (PS4) The canon spinoffs are: Persona Q Shadow of the Labyrinth (3DS) Persona 4 Arena (PS3) Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS3) Persona 4 Dancing All Night (ps Vita) Persona Q2 New Cinema Labyrinth (3DS) Persona 3 Dancing in Moonlight (Ps Vita) Persona 5 Dancing in Starlight (Ps Vita) Persona 5 Scramble the Phantom Strikers (PS4) I know this is a lot of information, but hopefully it helps you identify which songs are from which title!
This track reminds me of not Persona for some reason It's torally something that'd fit in the Raidou games....which are also SMT spinoffs Meguro also composes
P4 is interesting. I haven't actually played it, only watched the anime but the plot was super predictable from the start. The Investigation Team are also basically idiots lol, but a loveable cast all the same (I don't think they will ever top the Phantom Thieves of Hearts) P4's music is damn good though. I especially love the intro song for Dancing All Night. It's not quite Lynn good, but it holds its own and I love the jazzy theme most of it uses.
The anime is more obvious than the game. There's no way anyone is **Spoilers** guessing the gas attendant is the true mastermind by the end. Personally I put the phantom thieves in 3rd place behind Investigation team and SEES.
@@ZayIvory7 saw that coming the moment they introduced the character , it was too obvious. Way too much screentime for a character that's never seen again
@@Malacite They barely get 30 seconds in the actual game, not even a character picture. Essentially the equivalent of a random NPC that you'll never see again.
Persona 4 has such an awesome soundtrack, and I personally prefer it much more than P5's (not that it's bad, I just feel that 5's songs blend together in my head and become indistinguishable from each other for some reason).
The P4D version is also a bit of a pun. The dance character who preforms it is the killer (don't look it up if you want to avoid spoilers), and his second victims last name is 'konishi'.
@@Crystalhair2024 seems like people keep trying to scare him off for some reason. oh well maybe the hype around persona 6 when it comes out will get him.

Exactly. The spinoffs might sound overwhelming but in the end, they are all tied up the numbered entries. P5 is, indeed, the most accessible.
When watching the actual dance routine that the second song goes with, it says a lot about the story for the characters involved, just from the animation.
Yes, especially the fever time/partner portion. Also: the dance matches up eerily well with A-Ha's Take On Me, somehow.
Gosh, I forgot how good the Konishi remix was. Persona always got the bangers, from old to new. Really enjoyed your analysis of both songs, as always!
Shoji meguro is indeed a guitar player, he always plays at the concerts with the band
My favorite Persona 4 ost. Definitely a "this is it" song, facing the real culprit once and for all along with your friends one last time, this one is beyond epic. This, "The Almighty" and "The Battle for Everyone's Souls" are my favorite boss songs in any Persona game.
