I’m so happy you guys are back posting more often love the podcast. Great to hear a group of guy’s passionate about hockey just chatting it up for an hour every week
Canucks fan here - As much as we are underrated/underappreciated by the league, we're just happy we have a good team that looks to be ahead of schedule. If this is the start of a run of 3-5 years of playoffs/contending then we will take it. 10 years of losing with a bubble run sprinkled in will make the arena rocking come playoff time. To top if off, we have a good team that isn't hated for the first time in decades?
wow can’t believe my comment made the video. you guys are awesome i’ve watched every quiz, bin boys, vlog, podcast and everything else to date. keep up the great work!
Hey guys, thanks for the great podcats! And to your question Z towards us Canucks fans: We should all be extremly happy how things unfolded so far this season yet be humble enough to absolutely be ok with people not seeing the Canucks as true No. 1 Stanley Cup contenders. We could definitely make some noise tho with all the talent on the team. More importantly tho we are just so so happy to see what this team was capable to achieve so far
21:00 You're discussing the 3-2-1 points system. With the significant caveat that this is adjusting things after the games are done and doesn't factor in teams playing differently late in games if they're going to get fewer points if the game goes to overtime, I've calculated that a few times over the years and the changes in the standings are relatively minor, particularly where it matters (playoff picture). I have the data still from the 21-22 season and the only change in the playoffs, outside of home ice advantage in various rounds, is from swapping the wildcard teams in the west so COL vs DAL, CGY vs NSH instead of COL vs NSH, CGY vs DAL.: 3-2-1 (regulation win/OT or SO win/OT or SO loss): COL: 165 -> up 1 (home ice cup final vs FLA) C1 FLA: 164 -> down 1 (road cup final vs COL) A1 CAR: 163 -> M1 TOR: 160 -> A2 CGY: 155 -> up 1 (home ice conference final vs MIN) P1 NYR: 154 -> up 1 (home ice cup final vs MIN) M2 STL: 152 -> up 2 (home ice 1st round vs MIN, cup final vs TBL) C2 MIN: 150 -> down 3 (road 1st round vs STL, road conference final vs CGY, road cup final vs NYR) C3 TBL: 149 -> down 1 (road cup final vs STL) A3 BOS: 147 -> EWC1 EDM: 142 -> P2 PIT: 140 -> M3 WSH: 135 -> EWC2 LAK: 134 -> P2 NSH: 132 -> up 1, WWC1 (play CGY instead of COL) DAL: 129 -> down 1, WWC2 (play COL instead of CGY) VGK: 128 -> still miss playoffs VAN: 124 WPG: 121 NYI: 118 CBJ: 107 BUF: 100 -> up 2 OTT: 99 -> up 3 SJS: 99 -> down 2 ANA: 98 -> down 2 DET: 95 CHI: 84 SEA: 83 -> up 2 NJD: 82 -> down 1 PHI: 81 -> down 1 ARI: 75 MON: 71
Great comment on the Canucks! We all know that the playoffs are a different breed of competition altogether. Prime example is last year. The Bruins were the best regular season team in NHL history and that team completely fell off the map in the first round. The Panthers got to the playoffs at the last second and ended up going to the Finals. In my mind it’s always too early to call who’s a Cup favorite, especially when we’re only a little over half way done with the season; teams can rise, teams can fall. But the Canucks are playing exceptional hockey right now and it will be interesting if they can keep this run of form up until June
Went to the Heritage game in Edmonton this year, definitely one of the best experiences of my life. I think the trick is to sit front of upper tiers to get the angle for viewing, the low seats must have seen a lot of wall. Honestly was surprised how good the view was, I did go in to it thinking it was a novelty but it was great
All I remember was you guys said they added no one to their team and they would be the same. Apart from the fact Demko was coming back healthy, Hronek was injured when traded and is now healthy. They replaced AHL defenders with Soucy and Cole. They got Lafferty and other great bottom six guys.
Just a reminder that Pyotr Kotchetkov had a .930+ save percentage in December and has been rock solid in the starter role. He started slow this year but he was moving up and down the system. Now that he’s our regular guy he’s been unreal. He’s the reason the Canes started heating up
Fun quiz idea- Ovi vs Crosby. Give them stats/quotes/specific gear??? and they have to name which player the thing belongs to. Love the videos! PLEASE keep making them
As far as rule changes go, in OT, teams can only change when the puck is in play, and not during stops. I think this would lead to more scoring chances because you'll be able to catch tired players out on the ice. One other issue with 3 on 3 is teams holding onto the puck and cycling out of the zone if they don't have the look they like. It would be nice to see a rule that discourages it.
On the topic of team Canada snubs... or surprises.. I think MacKenzie Weegar could fit both categories. I think a lot would be surprised if he makes it, and conversely I think he's such a stud in his own end with a little added offensive punch he'd be a near perfect 3rd pair role player in a best on best tournament. He also is coming off being named best defenseman at the Worlds.
The Gabe Perreault comment by Jessie and Corwin was definitely the highlight of this video for me. Them getting to see him this close and watching the team live, saying he should have been a top pick in this past draft has me excited the Rangers were able to draft a possible game changer in the draft only having 1 pick in the 20’s. The team is so due for a drafted forward to be elite. Too many swings and misses.
As a canucks fan Im happy that playoffs is looking like a possibility this year. I wont say the Canucks are a contender this year unless they make a major acquisition or a player outside the core makes shows up big late in the season
Huge Canucks fan here, their schedule has definitely favoured them thus far with fewer games played against contenders, not even once against LA despite being in the same division. And their record against the contenders they have thus far played does not make me confident in a deep playoff run just yet.
Usually I would agree because that’s all we’ve been hearing but the Canucks have one of the best records vs top 16 teams (7th at .563) whereas a team like LA is just .441 against those same teams, good for 21st. But we don’t rag LA for it, so we shouldn’t beat ourselves up about it either.
I think every Winter Classic reps the location it's based in. The fish tossing is in reference to Pike Place market, which is a Seattle staple. Also, I'd say with the exclusion of the outfield, there really wasn't too many bad seats at T-mobile Field. That said that ice looked hella sketchy.
3:40 to answer Thomas' question I think it's important to note that the Canucks fell off after their 2020 turn around because the pandemic absolutely flattened them. The team got absolutely ransacked with covid and really disrupted their following seasons out of the rebuild. This is the first time where we aren't really seeing any lasting impacts in the team, the coaching, nor the front office.
Unfortunately more ads on jerseys and higher prices will be the trend. It’d be fortunate if jersey sales dropped significantly to where Fanatics and jersey ads were not a thing.
As a sens frequent watcher ( not a fan) the defense is a huge problem and they need a coaching change because they are not disciplined enough and often have a hot head
Nah the Canucks are solidly elite and everyone should know it. The boys are gonna dominate the league and lift the cup come June (I’m ready for the 2nd round exit)
the only team that should have good goaltending you mentioned out of the teams struggling is carolina. because carolina has defensive structure. every team with "bad goaltending" aside from them are terrible defensively.
Canucks have been hot and cold in past years, however this year we're matching or breaking franchise records and have a d core that is a top 10 in the league. That being said dont go all in now, wait for Willander, Lekkerimaki and/or some other prospects to come up. Nothing good to go all in for this year so what's the point doing now
To answer Zs question I’m just happy to have a winning team. I think people are wrong on their opinions on the bucks but it doesn’t really bother me. How many people thought Vegas was a cup contender at the beginning of last year? How many people thought Florida would make it out of the first round let alone make it to the finals. If people wanna keep doubting then let them. It really doesn’t matter
Great content, going back to the goaltending topic about the sens the could of had that goaltender by now if they didn't trade Gustavsson... now look where the are...
I think Buium has been the bast dman on the USA and not just by a bit he's so smooth and to me Hutson just makes too many turnovers rn to be the best dman on the USA but both have a lot of offensive talent that's for sure
*it’s weird that Canucks have played so well this year, but don’t get the respect* “Yeah, but isn’t it okay to just, not get respect?” Lol hey screw you too buddy
Thompson and both Tkachuks on one line might be one of the best ever just saying the skill and grit they would have would be unmatched Connor Matthews Kane Robertson J Hughes Keller M Tkachuk Thompson B Tkachuk Gaudreau Eichel Debrincat Fox Q Hughes McAvoy Werenski Faber L Hughes Hellebuyck Oettinger
Weird to choose Oettinger over Demko, and kind of wild to still be putting Gaudreau on any Team USA lineup when you’re leaving off guys like JT Miller, Scheifele, Boeser, Kreider, and Pavelski (if you want a guy who can give fantastic veteran leadership and still produce offensively) just off the top of my head. Johnny Gaudreau has literally half the number of points as Miller. Keller is a great player but I don’t know if he cracks that line up. No Slavin either? McAvoy/Slavin would be one of the nastiest shutdown pairings imaginable. But what this all amounts to is that Team USA is seriously scary and there has never been deeper American elite talent in NHL history, imo.
I'm a life-long Canucks fan, and I don't believe in this team. Love Petey, Hughes, Boeser, Demko, but I'm sure the other foot will drop sooner or later. Canucks fans can't have nice things
As a Canucks fan, I think they're still not a contender for the cup -- not deep enough defensively. If they stay healthy they could go on a run though. I'm starting to believe.
Love having Thomas on, is it really a hockey podcast without a Habs fan annoyingly bringing up the 24 stanley cups? I too am a Habs fan
I see what you did there

The funniest thing about the Montreal vs Pittsburgh Shootout was all the fourth liners going by round 8 and then Josh Anderson goes 11th 😂😂😂
Please do an ENOFORCER and/or a goal horn part 3 quiz.
I'd like to challenge the bar down quiz myself on the goal horns.
