- The BarDown Podcast is back and Corwin has some explaining to do when it comes to towels in the stands, because DZ strongly disagrees with his controversial opinion. The crew also brings a series of unbelievable stats from the start of the NHL playoffs. This video was filmed on Thursday, April 25, 2024 before the games of that night.

As a canucks fan who went to game 1 & 2, I did in fact scream for over 30 seconds regularly while waving my towel.

The viewing party today was just as crazy! Lower bowl completely sold out so they opened a few upper bowl sections and those sold out too! Everyone was given playoff towels as well.
Dude the viewing party for game 3 was as loud as game 1.

Living in Vancouver I can tell you the vibe was still pretty positive. Don’t let remarks on social media fool you into thinking that’s what the actual vibe in the city is. Everyone still has lots of the faith in the team.

I feel like Vancouver’s fans do not do a lot for Pettersson’s confidence. Every time he has a mediocre game, the fans jump down his throat as if he hasn’t been their best player the last 5 years
I don't think he's the best player but he is pretty inconsistent, hot then cold. Right now he's cold 0 points in 3 games for 11.5 mill isn't acceptable!

Ranger fan here I was at game one this year, both last year, and most games in the 22 run tickets are expensive on the secondary market but the season ticket holders go for generations and die hards (my dad since 1968) accounts for a lot of the crowds, environments have been loud and special

Corwin isn't wrong. The shaking of the towels disrupts the sound burst and absorbs sound waves which stadiums are deliberately designed to amplify.

Canucks fan here that partially agrees with Corwin - the towels are a Canucks thing so of course we embrace it and it's fun. But if i were a fan of another team, I would think that it's an odd tradition to adopt.
Also it's such a loser tradition - complaining about the refs to the point of surrender 😅. I love the towels but I wish we had a more positive winning culture here!!!

We use team-scarfs in germany instead of towels :D looks better and you have some actual value to carry a scarf around in a stadium full of ice

I think I know what Corwin is trying to say. There are certainly hardcore Rangers fans, but as a percentage of the total fan base there is a higher percentage of casual Ranger fans that know nothing about the sport than any other team in any other sport.

i dont know if they even watch the dallas vegas games, if they did they would see that vegas is keeping them to the outside so getting outshot doesn't matter when 80% of the shots are nothing

Toronto is definitely more as a whole invested in the Leafs. Any Canadian city for that matter over a U.S. city. There are multiple pro sports being played at this time; NFL draft, NBA playoffs, MLB start. I do think Rangers fans are as passionate as Canadian teams are though. It’s just not the same percentage of the population.

To counter the "Leafs fans being nervous" thing, a good example os the Wild. A team that will ROUTINELY underperform whenever they have a good team, but EVERY single playoff game in their home building is ear splittingly loud. I feel like it is a combination of obviously the platinum seats, but also a general sense of Leafs fans are just kinda entitled. (Not necessarily in a bad way, as the Leafs players constantly complain about their home ice being hard to play on. Its basically created a hostile culture between the fans and the players where the fans are waiting for the players to do something worth cheering and the players are expecting the fans to cheer them even when they are playing like dogshit)
Canucks fans should be blaming their offense for not being able to score and not desmith. Can’t win games when you can only get 2 goals

If the Islanders get swept, they NEED to tear it down and rebuild. This build of a hockey team is not made for a Championship. Even those recent Conference Finals appearances... they clearly weren't a true contender. Lou is delusional if he wants to stand pat and maintain this roster build going forward.

Towels are used by fanbases that aren't good at wearing the team's jerseys.
Canucks have too many significantly varied jerseys lol. The whole stadium could be in jerseys and you wouldn’t see any uniformity in the crowd.

I'm convinced Corwin has never been to a playoff game with these takes. Been to both baseball(Phillies) and hockey(Flyers) playoff games and the building is extremely loud with the towels going. The towels being waved creates a better atmosphere

As a Bruins fan I was all in when it comes to alternating goalies, but with how amazing Swayman has been puts me on the fence. I think Ullmark looked great too but Swayman has this extra aura of confidence and key saves
